Electric G line vs C Line: Comfort?

My commute to work will be doubling in distance in the coming months. My electric C line has been a pleasure to use but I'm now looking for something more comfortable for the longer ride.

I was convinced I'd change manufacturer and buy a much larger bike, but once you get used to Brompton's practicality, there's no going back. Add to that I live in London, so locking anything outside is a Russian roulette on whether you'll find it when you get back.

I haven't had a chance to ride a G Line yet but hope to in the next few weeks. I'll visit Brompton Junction in Covent Garden.

Until then I just wanted the opinion of some G Line owners. Is comfort a lot better with the bigger wheels? Is the fact it folds larger an issue? How is handling with the newer style handlebars? Anything worth noting would be great. Thank you!

Will you consider changing console after Sonys announcement of an end to discs?

I've always been team Playstation - from the 1st generation all the way through to the PS5 Pro today. Never even considered an Xbox.

After todays announcement, as long as Microsoft keep a disc version of their console, i'll very likely switch over now.

Games aren't cheap, I can't casually put down £60+ every time I want a new title. The way I've managed that is by purchasing used games (disc) on eBay etc, completing the game then selling in a few weeks/months. That way someone else can enjoy the game and I recoup most of my money. Apart from the odd title which I've not sold because I continue to play i.e GTA, GT7 etc.

With Sony now forcing people to buy digital versions of games, resale value is zero. They'll also have control of sale prices. I'm sure other retailers will sell digital versions but value for money will be nothing like it is now with discs.

Will you consider switching console or to PC?

Estate agents have completely sucked the joy out of a First Time buy

As the title suggests, I'm a first time buyer in London. I've worked really hard over the last 5-10 years to put a healthy deposit together and have recently received a mortgage offer from the bank.

It's been very exciting up until this point but if there was an award for being able to completely suck the joy out of a once in a lifetime process, estate agents would clean up.

It starts with the initial call to arrange a viewing, not all of them but most come across arrogant and condescending. Like they are doing me a favour, not the other way around. Then it's the pushiness of trying to get you to use their affliated mortgage broker. "Best rates on the market", "It's completely free", "nothing to lose". A 'No Thanks' seems to encourage them more, I've stopped being polite about it and will shut it down the second they start reading the script. You can hear the defeat in their voice which I don't really care about but it feels like you've already got off on a bad foot with someone who will likely be negotiating the biggest purchase in your life.

Other issues were -

  1. Fake claims that "You need to hurry, there's lots of interest". Trying to pressure you into making a bid.
  2. Lugging you around to see other properties "You'll love", then realising its not actually a great property and this is just to get feet in the door so they can show the seller they're doing their job.
  3. The endless calls and emails between 8am-1pm. 80% of which are from different branches of the same company who have had your information passed on to them. I've just stopped taking calls during those hours.

Many other smaller issues but Its completely sucked the joy out of this process. I now automatically go into a call with a defensive mindset, it's like a little battle every time. I don't know if this is just a London thing or the case throughout the country, but I can't wait until it's over.

No upgrade for me this year - These price hikes suck

M1 Pro owner here - this was the year I finally wanted to upgrade. I was looking forward to the potential new design and 2nm chips. My 16gb M1 Pro is starting to show its age now and can get a little laggy with higher demanding apps.

With MacBook Pro prices now starting at around £1999 in the UK ($2637) and after any upgrades to RAM/PRO CHIP, you're looking at around $3500-$3800.

For someone like me who does basic video editing, photography, gaming etc these computers are no longer worth it.

Realistically the options now are - 1. Move to a MacBook Air (prices have gone up too, but not as painful) or 2. Switch to a windows machine, but that's a last resort. I love my Mac.

How concerned should I be about remaining lease period? (96 years)

First time buyer. I've found a flat I really like in central London. The price is well within budget, the service charge isn't crazy and the area is great.

The one big concern though, is the period left on the lease is 96 years.

I did some reading but unfortunately no closer to a definitive answer.

My question is, if I went ahead with the purchase am I guaranteed the right to extend that lease? Are there any potential hurdles which could be a problem and is that why it's priced so low? How many years is normal to extend, I've read 25yrs in one case and 60yrs in another. How much would the whole process cost and how long roughly?

Any advice would be hugely appreciated. Thanks

What is Whoop actually charging you for?

Firstly apologies if this post is in the wrong sub, I thought this would be the most fitting.

With the recent release of the Fitbit Air, I've taken more of an interest in screen-less trackers. Im not completely sold though, as I like quick access to information on my wrist. One thing I do like about the Whoop trackers though, is the depth and variety of data you get.

The downside is the membership prices. For someone like me who does sports casually a few times a week - £169/yr for a BASIC membership seems like overkill.

This got me thinking, what are you actually paying for? By this I mean, are you simply paying Whoop to unencrypt data that their device has already collected? By owning the device do you not already own your own data, therefore why can't you just use a third party app to read that data? If not, does that mean Whoop has the right to store/use all your data, whether you pay to access it or not?

I've got a lot more questions on the issue, but would love to hear other peoples thoughts on this.

Tips on making my Brompton C Line more comfortable?

I ride an Electric C Line to and from work everyday, it's a 3 mile journey each way and the route is safe/pleasant.

I was told recently, the company I work for are moving office to roughly 7/8 miles each way now. This will mean 14-16 miles a day through central London. Although I love my Brompton, anything more than 3 miles starts to get uncomfortable. The small wheels and lack of suspension mean I feel every bump in the road.

I've had a look at the G Line range and it looks like a great upgrade but I really want to avoid throwing £3499 on a new bike at the moment.

Are there any suggestions on upgrades/modifications I can make on my bike that will make a noticeable difference to comfort? Thanks

The Gazelle Grenoble C5+ First Edition - I think I’m in Love

I made a post yesterday asking for advice on a new commuter bike. I’d narrowed it down to a Gazelle C8 or Cowboy Cross ST. The overwhelming verdict was stick to a trusted Gazelle.

A lot of the advice made perfect sense, so a Gazelle it was. I decided to check out what other options Gazelle offered and came across this beauty. The Grenoble C5+ First Edition. It ticks every box for me.

Looks great (2026 iF design award)
75nm Bosch performance line motor
Up to 109 mile range
Belt drivetrain
Fork & seat suspension

The only downsides are it’s almost 28kg and costs £3499 which is a huge amount of money for me but I think it will be worth it in the long term.

Daily Commute: Gazelle Grenoble C8 vs Cowboy Cross ST

I currently ride an electric Brompton C Line. It's great for the short journey I take to work (3 miles each way) but as my company are moving to a new location (7-8 miles each way), I want to get a bigger more comfortable bike as the Brompton can be rough on longer journeys.

I've narrowed it down to the Gazelle Grenoble C8 or the Cowboy Cross ST.

The Gazelle is £2799 with a 55-135km range - 540Wh battery.

The Cowboy is £3499 with a 60 - 120km range - 540Wh battery.

I've not had a chance to test ride them yet, but both look like they have a comfortable upright ride position and both have removable batteries which is great for charging at work.

My only concerns are what maintenance costs are like for both and is the extra £700 worth it for the Cowboy?

If anyone has any experience with either bike and can offer some advice, that would be much appreciated.

Edit: The Specialized Turbo Como 4.0 also looks decent.
