Lazy dinner: orange roughy in papillote

Today was fish en papillote aka fish cooked in paper. Today I added some power greens that were languishing in the fridge, a chopped mini pepper, a little chopped onion, canned chickpeas, cherry tomatoes, and a bit of lemon.

To season I uses Sri Lankan style roasted curry powder, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. And a drizzle of olive oil.

Assemble this in layers in parchment. I am lazy, I keep a mini stapler in my kitchen drawer to seal up these packets. There is a staple free technique. But not for me. i also don’t bother cutting into a heart.

Throw this in a preheated 375 oven for about 15 minutes. Open carefully on the side and slide on your plate.

To serve I added a bit of lemon salt to finish.

A before and after photo. And white nectarines for dessert.

Shopping my closet: Coach 1941 Swagger Crossbody w/ rivets

I got this bag when it came out, and I really liked how Coach incorporated multiple brand elements in a new way with this bag.

Some fun details:
- the strap is crossbody or shoulder, adjusts with the pin style
- the bag is leather lined, a really soft lambskin, besides the zipper pocket
- the horse and carriage logo is metal on the hang tag
- this was the first bag I remember with a C logo chain link by coach
- the Swaggers had the little front strap if I remember correctly, and this was the strap on the clutch versions
- the turnlock shows up on the front, for 3 brand elements: the C, horse and carriage logo, and the lock
- the bag straps attach with a unique clip

Have you ever lost something for years that finally turned up?

Have you ever misplaced something for years?

I lost a ring one time. I think I bought it in 2019. I remember getting it at Anthropologie and wore it on a night out, I think it might have been a work holiday party, but who knows.

I don’t wear rings often, so I don’t have good muscle memory that it is supposed to be there.

I always take off rings when I am washing my hands. And if I have pockets, they go there. Or I might put them in my purse, as I am worried I will leave things behind.

So I guess that night I forgot I took it off, and left it in my bag. I have no idea. It never made it back in my jewelry box.

So months later I was looking for a ring to wear, and that one would have been perfect. But it wasn’t in my jewelry box. I had no idea where it could have been.

Every so often I would think about this ring. Eventually I thought it was a fever dream and there was no such ring.

Today I went in my closet to grab a specific purse. And I picked up one I haven’t worn in a while. Somehow it didn’t make it to the purge pile either. The shape is cool but it is a bit fussy. I noticed a bump in the interior pocket, tampons. So I was like let me take these out and put them with the period stuff.

And I stick my hand in and feel two rings. It is the missing ring. And one I do not remember at all. It wasn’t a dream. It was real!

Have you ever lost anything for years and later been pleasantly surprised when it turned up?

Anderson Paak’s K-pop movie and kpop collabo soundtrack

““The album is also a good reminder of the obvious point that K-Pop comes from Black American music.
Yeah, for sure. And a lot of times too, you don't get K-pop compilations like this where these bands are on the same album as each other. With these groups and these solo acts, I don't know if it's ever been done like this before. So we wanted to do something that hadn't been done and at the same time, like you said, remind people what this really is.

Which is?
It's definitely Black music, R&B music, hip hop. And a lot of times with the K-pop music it's their interpretation of it, and we've seen it before -- everybody's interpretation, whether it's K-pop or within Indian music. There's been so many different times where it's been done. And I think the intriguing part with the whole thing is seeing people's interpretation of it and how they do it. But I think it's about respecting the culture and the music and paying homage as well, so that it'll take care of you in the long run.”

40+ folks: how are you incorporating power, explosiveness and multiple planes of movement in your workouts?

I have been on this multi-month journey to build are the supporting structures up in my knees to get rid of the pain triggers. And to date I have mostly been doing training that is in the front to back plane, and not side to side. And then I started seeing all these things about how rotation, power, and being able to move loads through a wider range of motion are things that decline with age, but are good for longevity.

If you are taking a longevity lens to your movement patterns, what other things are you doing to maintain or improving power, explosiveness and strength through the range of motion.

Don’t do it, the unagi rolls at Tokyo Market are awful

EDIT: Tokyo Central Market

I made the mistake of shopping when I was hungry. I saw the unagi rolls and thought, I haven’t had these in forever. Let me pick up a pack.

I got home starving and was so disappointed.

First up, the rolling was terrible. They were falling apart immediately.

Secondly, there was like 4x more the amount of unagi sauce on there than needed. Not only did the excessive sauce disrupt the structural integrity, it was glopping out, and seemed sweeter than normal.

The avocado was perfectly ripe. Everything else was terrible.

Cleaning out the fridge tonight. Leftover rotisserie chicken, Trader Joes steamed lentils, lemon-oregano dressing, freekah, broccolini from the deli, roasted carrots, lots of parsley.

I always forget about freekah, but it is a fiber powerhouse! Mine was the cracked version.

I am about 7ish months into my Zepbound journey right now. I came into this with a health goals/outcomes. I also had a goal of some weight loss. The goal was based around what number I thought was reasonable for my aesthetic and size goals.

[NOTE: I have health goals, but this post is long enough, no need to dive into those, and I'll probably hit them well before the scale/body composition changes).

Now I feel like I am kind of at an impasse.  I have not lost many pounds, it definitely feels like my scale goal is out of reach.

But what has me rethinking the scale goals even more (besides slow progress) is current visual change, body recomposition progress, and seeing what is happening with my celeb role models.

I just saw a photo of myself from the weekend, and it was surprising. What is really really strange to me at the moment, is my face. I am a round-faced woman. The kind of face where cheek pinching never ends. My face, and more acutely my neck are slimmer than they have ever been in my life. Even when I was younger and lighter. The change in my neck is very odd to me, as I have always had a chubby one. This must be a Zepbound exclusive. (Note: I am still a bit heavier than the weight I had settled at for most of adulthood, but this trip to this weight I am smaller in measurements than I was at the lower weight)

I can also see a lot of recomposition is happening without the scale. ‼️I see it all over the place in my body, gradually. I have a dexascan in a few more weeks, and I am actually up a few pounds compared to 3 months ago, but most of my measurements are down, so it'll be interesting to see what it reveals.

But the last thing that has me rethinking the number is somewhat recomposition related. I have a few "goal" celebrity body doubles. I like to have some visuals to help me understand what is realistic, and of course just what other people look like.

The two main ones are my height, similarly proportioned. One is around a decade older, one is about a decade younger.

Celeb one: they went on a weight loss journey, and they started maybe a size or so smaller than what my typical adult weight was or roughly my college size. They have been visibly slimmer for the last decade or so after losing weight. They are lighter my goal, large for Hollywood, but a good match for proportions/visuals.

Celeb two: when they came out they were basically my normal adult size. So perfect person to follow for fashion ideas! Over the last few years they have been on a slow body recomposition journey, post pregnancy. After some time, the are looking quite a bit smaller than before. Smaller in the sense of they have gained muscle and become more compact along the way.

They recently shared a photo, which is what I would call my "goal" give or take.

And they are much heavier than my goal. Which is 🤯. I absolutely thought I would need to lose more on the scale to get to that point. And maybe I don't. So this has me rethinking the scale part of my goals. It might be possible to hit my goal measurements at a higher weight than I thought was possible, continuing to focus on the recomposition side of things.

Is anyone going through similar mental math?

EDIT: original goal weight was solidly in the middle to upper end of overweight BMI, and revising looks like obese BMI. I have a goal of being somewhat smaller. But not small. Nor a restrictive path to get there, nothing more than a moderate amount of exercise per week.

Odds and ends from the week to finish up.

I seared this salmon, with a Mediterranean spice blend.

The chickpeas got olive oil, salt, pepper and lemon juice. I sauteed some oyster mushrooms and power greens in olive oil with a few pepper flakes and garlic powder. And then cut up some grape tomatoes, salted them, and threw them on the plate.
