I think he’s a fabulous and very under-rated musician. Super nice guy, too.
I’ve got some family in the Midwest, and this reminds me of them.
Last weekend I was driving across the state when a biker gang, all sunglasses, grizzled beards and patched leather, passed by me. The lead guy gave me a one-handed salute and kept going.
I was puzzled at first, then I realized. It was my BÖC sticker. That lead biker and I connected, fan to fan, at 75 miles an hour, over an old rock band
Glen was one of the best. Rest in peace, sir.
Just in case anyone is interested, yes, the castle in The Odyssey is the Fortress of Santa Caterina, the one on the island of Favignana. You can’t miss it. They had to hike up to it everyday to shoot.
Pretty epic movie, btw.
(Not my photo.)
I guess this is what happens when you sell your “ass-sets.”

My dear translater peeps—I’m a regular contributor here, and also a writer. My new book, which is a fun crime/dark fantasy story, is about coming out as trans at a later age and learning to be comfortable within yourself. When I was writing it, I called it “Trancy Drew,” and that’s the basic vibe. It’s a love letter to my trans friends (and me) who deserve a second chance. It’s just been released, so if this is your thing, go check it out. It can be found at the behemoth known as Amazon, or at the publisher, JournalStone.
Similarly, if you’ve written books, tell us about them (and add links) in the comments!! We want to know!
Rock on, beautiful people! ✊🏼
Watercolour, gouache and oil on papers glued together and backed with canvas, 96 x 74 cm.
Good stuff, yo.
I don’t find his films cold at all. Kirk Douglas in Paths of Glory is the opposite of cold. EWS is about warming up a marriage. He’s certainly not afraid to shine a light on brutality and dehumanization, but me, I find Stanley’s humanity shining bright in every frame.
A three photo panorama of Etna from Castelmola. Crazy to see a live volcano right next to an ocean and mountains. What an insanely beautiful and epic place Sicily is.
(I’m the chick who keeps sharing the older alt country stuff—just trying to keep the history going, so bear with me.)
Don Walser was a Texan who was perhaps (to my knowledge) the greatest yodeler out there. He was beloved by the alternative crowd in the 90’s because he heartened back to a more traditional sound that modern Nashville had rejected. And his music fuckin rocked.
When Don really got going, that voice was nothing short of magic. His signature song “Rolling Stone from Texas” is sublime. I put a link for that song in the comments.
What’s fascinating about yodeling is that it came here from Germany and Switzerland with the immigrants who then settled in TX, and their polkas and yodeling got all mixed up with traditional Mexican music at the border, which then became conjunto. Lots of fascinating history here, if you want to dig it up.
Get yer yodelin’ on! Enjoy!
Bruce is a big fan of the alt country folks (Joe Ely, Willie, etc) and they love him back (Townes’ cover of Racing in the Street, etc). But it’s rare you get to see them perform together.
Here a clearly delighted Alejandro Escovedo blasts through a new song with the E Street Band. It’s fantastic.
