Recruiter wanted to record my face for her notetaking

So this recruiter during and interview asked me straight off the bat: can I film you so I can take notes using AI? So I was like no, then she was like ohhh but how do I take notes? I was like, with old school pen and paper or you type on your computer? (mind you this was like a <10 min call)

Then she was visibly distressed why I did not consented. Then I was like, I have no idea what will be done with the video. There is no reason to film my face. Then she said, but can I transcribe the meeting using AI? And I was fine with that to be honest. But why not ask that in the first place if it was all about the notes?

Am I the asshole?

UPDATE ON MISSING OUADOUD (22): MOROCCAN AUTHORITIES HAVE DISPLACED HIM FROM TANGIER TO ANOTHER CITY AND IS LOST.

Ouadoud has been missing since July 19th from the Charf neighborhood in Tangier. He has mental and physical disabilities (his left hand is bent), depends on medicine and has a catheter.

Authorities have indicated that Ouadoud most likely has been displaced to another city but they do not know to which. Since they do not register who they displace nor register where they are released, the authorities are the ones that made him disappear. I repeat: He is most likely not even close to Tangier.

The family is still looking for him and have mainly looked in Northern cities. They do not want to give up but Morocco is huge and now that they suspect he's really been displaced by the authorities, he could be anywhere in Morocco.

If you know of cities/villages where people like him could have been dumped, please list them in the comments. We need to have a sense of direction. Also, please keep spreading the picture with relatives and friends across the country because he could be anywhere.

As a Moroccan, I am really ashamed this is policy or common practice in Morocco. This is an islamic country right? We are so hospitable right? We don't toss our disabled into the wilderness and say Allah y 3wnik - right?

The family is devastated. Absolutely devastated.

PhDs are flooding the entry-level roles

Recent graduate in a very AI dense role open to work as data scientist, ML/AI Engineer, Data Engineer or Software Engineer. Basically, I have too much AI/ML focus in my previous work to be taken seriously for SE roles. To be honest, I was even open to apply for internship roles. DS or MLE roles are flooded by PhDs in the Netherlands and Switzerland.

I have spoken to a lot of recruiters that loved my profile but mentioned each independently that the bar is just a lot higher. If you are competing with multiple Stanford/Cambridge/MIT/ETH PhDs with over 5 publications for a ML internship the market is just fucked.

So anyone who is wondering why they are not advancing with a good resume and relevant work experience.... Well this is one of the reasons.

Would you be open to selling a share of your business in return for capital to invest in your business?

Let's say you could turn your business into a publicly traded company, would you be willing in the first place to sell a share of your business? I am mainly curious as to why you would or would not. As a small business owner, I would be open to selling a share of the business (and thus a share of the profits/losses) because investments would allow me to scale up my business, and thus generate more money and it would allow me to provide better service to my customers as I am trying to improve my customer retention.

I can also imagine that people are not really waiting for all the extra accountability and hassle that comes with handling multiple stakeholders.

How can I improve my resume for Data Scientist, AI/ML Engineering roles?

I have been applying for three months now with just 4 responses back out of 170 applications. I'm currently looking for entry-level roles to start straight after my master's in October.

Ideally, I would like to pursue a career in Reinforcement Learning/Robotics/Autonomous Systems but apart from working with RL in digital simulations, I do not have any practical robotics experience. Also it is very niche so barely any jobs for entry-level engineers.

I am now considering applying for data scientist roles as I already have decent experience through my studies as well as an internship at a big corporation. Similarly, since my thesis, studies and internship were very AI heavy, I got to learn to create systems end-to-end but I have never put anything in production, nor do I have any projects that I can really demonstrate. This made me think to come up with a project and work on that for the meantime. Not sure if I can get a job otherwise in this market.

-----------------------

Purely about the CV:

  • It is two pages but since I did a lot of experience for a graduate student, I understood from recruiters that it is recommended to stick to two pages. (Thoughts about this are welcome!)
  • I'm also not sure about the signal I'm giving off. It feels like I have a lot of broad experience rather than a speciality. I used to be attracted to consultancy but my heart lies now with tech. Nevertheless, there are many transferable skills. And to be honest it helped me a lot on the soft skills because I am an engineer with strong quantitative skills already.
  • Should I skip the summary?
  • I'm a bit clueless about the skills section. There are many things mentioned. It looks cluttered. But I am also not comfortable with deleting a lot of things as most are explicitly mentioned in many vacancies.
  • I tried to stick to STAR as much as possible but I feel like my descriptions are too lengthy. At the same time I struggled a lot making things shorter.

----------------------

Any feedback specifically for these roles are greatly appreciated:

  • Data Scientist
  • AI/ML Engineer
  • Applied Scientist
  • Reinforcement Learning Scientist/Engineer
  • Autonomy Engineer

What are your thoughts? I feel so mixed about his speech knowing what happened in Sebta right after.

Rant: Was begged to discontinue my studies in 2022 and now after doing a master I am the one begging for a job. What should my strategy be?

I don't know what to do anymore as a recent grad in engineering specializing in AI/ML, data science, RL and OR. Originally, I never intended to go into software but here I found my passion. I got some relevant coursework and an internship in this area but the job market is rough. Never did any leetcode and now crunching it as we speak to at least manage to get an interview... I'm pretty new to this all. All vacancies ask for experienced candidates.

What should I do? Or is this a mere consequence of applying in the summer?

Mijn budget is <100 EUR. Het liefst navy blauw of wit. Ik gok dat het of linnen of een linnen blend is. Het liefst luchtig dus maar niet doorschijnend. Oh en dus casual sjiek. Dank.

-------------------------

For those who do not speak Dutch:

The cookie is finished: I am disappointed in shitty material dress shirts from fast fashion chains. Fortunately peanut butter, I see yups in Amsterdam with beautiful quality, light and summery dress shirts. However, I cannot find them anywhere. My budget is <100 EUR. Preferably navy blue or white, I think they use some sort of linnen blend. It's casual chique, light and breathable but not translucent. Thank.

------------------------

Update NL: Dank yuppen! Ik heb mijn levenslust weer hervonden. De duidelijke winnaar voor mij is Charles Tyrwhitt.

Update EN: Thank yups! I have again found my life's appetite. The kleer winner for me is Charles Tyrwhitt.

49,000 people crossed the border with Spain within 24 hours.

We have to discuss and address the reasons people want to "escape" Morocco. This is not sustainable for Morocco. 49k is about 0.15% of our entire population... within 24 hours. That's more than 1 in 1000 Moroccans and considering 95% is male more than 1 in 500 men... If it wasn't for Spain and Morocco closing the border right now it would have been more.

I see everyone talking about the consequences for Spain but this requires a lot of self-reflection too. Not only from Moroccans but especially the government. What can we do to make people want to stay?

I understand that people want a better financial situation etc. but what can Morocco do?

Who will benefit from the World Cup 2030 in Morocco?

It will be rich real estate people. I'm sure restaurants, shops and such will do well for about a month.

That's it.

Morocco is already the fastest growing tourist destination in the world. Can it go faster? Yeah sure. However, usually this just means that the prices of the tickets and accommodations go up rather than that the number of tourists keeps growing. Apart from that, the number of tourists is very concentrated in certain spots, not everyone will benefit.

Russia hosted in 2018: no lasting gains. nobody in the country noticed anything to begin with.

Similarly for Brazil and South Africa. Ok yes these countries are poor and big so you cannot compare it to Morocco right... OK let's say you are rich and small, like... Qatar: 0 benefits.

MREs are buying up properties to turn them into AirBnBs. MREs are also renting apartments to rent them out as AirBnBs.
