sequoia national park

first time in sequoia national park <3 i was helping to set up a summer camp there and had so much fun.

there was something really nice about getting to spend time in the park with an actual purpose instead of trying to cram everything into a sightseeing itinerary.

also… you truly do not understand how massive the sequoias are until you’re standing underneath one. photos do them zero justice.

i stopped obsessing over protein and reached my weight loss goal

want to start this off by saying that i am a girl so im not sure how this advice would work for men/people who don’t want to look LEAN.

for ref, i was almost 130 lbs as a 5’3 girl and i personally feel like I look my best around 105lbs. I lost the first 15 lbs by strength training, yoga, 10K steps, dialing in my eating and focusing on Whole Foods and eating my body weight in protein each day. So, this isn’t to say that increasing your protein doesn’t fill you up faster and therefore you eat less. But i just could NOT lose that last 10 lbs that i wanted to, no matter how much cardio and how dialed in my diet was.

then one day, i ran out of protein powder and decided not to repurchase it and i lost that last 5-10 lbs with in the next month.

lately, every single food has to be turned into some 30-40g protein version. protein coffee, protein cereal, protein pancakes, protein desserts, protein everything. i feel like there’s this implication that if something has a ton of protein it automatically makes it better for getting lean, when at the end of the day you can still very easily eat more calories than your body needs. sometimes the “high protein” version of a snack is just… a much more calorie dense snack with protein powder added to it.

i’m not anti protein at all. i just think the fitness industry has successfully turned “get enough protein” into “more protein is always better,” and those are two very different things.

does anyone else feel like the protein obsession has gotten a little out of control?

driving in complete silence

I used to get in the car and immediately put on a playlist or a podcast but recently I’ve started driving in complete silence.

I’ve been doing this the past couple weeks since I’ve been on a roadtrip across the US and I feel like I’ve been so much more present in my driving and noticing more beauty in my surroundings.

Driving is one of those rare occasions in this modern society where you quite literally CANT be on your phone so I’ve found that just completely using that time to be alone with my thoughts has really helped me to think through life and not constantly overstimulate my brain with new information from podcasts.

I still love music, but i think i had gotten so used to constantly consuming something that silence started to feel uncomfortable. now driving quietly feels weirdly peaceful.

has anyone else tried this?

hammocks & swimming hole makes all the difference during summer camping

went camping in the Ozarks in Arkansas at Kyle’s Landing campground and had the time of my life! The campground is down a very bumpy road so keep that in mind when driving down. I stayed for 2 days in my big Agnes copper spur tent and the weather was in the 90s and very hot and muggy.

I’ve been on a cross country road trip the past couple of weeks and I previously was camping in the Grand Canyon. I had so much fun there too but the midday July heat was definitely an obstacle and so I decided to get a hammock for my next stop. when you have a hammock you can just chill in the shade and read your book during the hot midday siesta.

when I arrived in the ozarks it was sooooo hot and muggy I was so thankful that I had chosen a campground that had a swimming hole so that I could chill in the water to cool off. the swimming hole was just a few steps away from my campsite so it was nice to be able to go back and forth whenever i pleased.

every time i go camping i learn a new tip or trick to make the experience even more fun so decided to share! cheers

do i really need a kitchen?

so im in the manifestation stages of my van life journey and in deciding whether i want to build my self or buy a pre-built van i find myself wondering do i really need an inside kitchen?

for ref, i work remote and i don’t necessarily need to be economical about food and i love trying new restaurants in new places (that’s one of the reasons i wanna do van life).

my plan is to kinda forget the kitchen set up and just get a mini fridge and a portable stove for when i wanna cook outside at campsites. and i also want a shower to use for cleaning myself and dishes.

but every van i see has a whole sink and kitchen set up and im thinking i would wanna use that space for something else (a desk and couch set up) but i fear im missing something that i wont know about till im actually on the road. do you think im underestimating the necessity and convenience of an inside kitchen or is it something i could possibly live without. please let me know if there are flaws in my plan!

how do u pick a niche if u literally like everything lol

everyone always says “pick a niche” but what if u genuinely dont have one 🥹

i like hiking, yoga, books, fashion, camping, road trips, nature… like my interests are all over the place. some of them “make sense” together but some of them are so out of left feild that it feels weird to post it all on one channel if that makes sense … i do
sometimes i wonder if im just making excuses bc i cant commit to one thing lol

idk. has anyone actually been in this situation and figured it out? did u eventually just force urself to stick to one thing or is there another way to think about it?

[COMP] tried matching the balance of this rock cairn

this rock cairn completely inspired this pose. i figured if those stones could find balance in the middle of a river, i should at least give it a shot 🤷🏼‍♀️ balancing on slippery, uneven rocks under the water was no joke though. i don’t think i’ve ever appreciated my stabilizer muscles more.

i get it now

i just left the grand canyon on my cross country road trip and i totally get why people keep coming back.
i’ve seen pictures my whole life, but nothing prepares you for seeing it in person. it almost doesn’t even look real.
i stayed at desert view campground for a few nights, hiked grandview to coconino saddle, watched sunrise and sunset from a bunch of overlooks, and even had a few elk wander through my campsite one evening 😭
honestly i think my favorite part was just sitting at the rim and staring at it for way longer than i expected to. i feel like i barely scratched the surface.
already trying to figure out when i can come back. what’s something i absolutely shouldn’t miss next time?

Grand Canyon Camping

This was my first time spending three nights in a tent and it was amazing! A pair of elk walked right by my tent one morning and they really startled me but were so cool to see up close. Had no idea they had fur on their horns and honestly those horns were bigger than i imagined in my head.

just got this iphone 4 to take photos with. all I really care about is being able to transfer the photos to my computer but when i plug it in the option doesn’t pop up to connect the phone to my laptop. nor do i have the option to connect to WiFi so i can just send the photos to myself that way. any work around?
