Why is my client so unappreciative and rude?

….and before you jump all over me….this is actually a genuine question.

Today, one of my residents was just so rude and condescending towards me. I finally told her I wasn’t going to put up with her attitude and she needed to just stop. I’ve had it with her to be honest. Her personality is so hard to deal with. She is never happy and literally gets her way all the time. She refuses to work, refuses to go to day treatment, refuses to volunteer. So, she just sits at home and bullies staff (or tries to). I have never been anything but exceptionally nice to her. I am not a jerk. She just targets people and she does it because she can!

I have an interview tomorrow in an unrelated field. I pray I get the job. If not, I’m dropping her as a client regardless. I’m so depressed after working with her today. It‘s hard to even identify the vibes she gives off. It‘s almost as if the only thing that would make her happy is if I fall to the ground and praise her as the queen she think she is. She is higher functioning and can do better.

I just need to vent. I’m sorry (in advance) if I offend anyone.

How do y’all watch this show?

I don’t have cable and I am NOT paying for OWN. I watch on HBO Max, but they’re stingy about halfway through the seasons. If I try to watch on YouTube it’s bootlegged most of the time. Help a girl out.

Is it really progress?

I am sitting here with a client. Everyone always says how much progress this person has made. On paper that might be true. This person doesn’t hurt people the way he/she used to. However, this is because he/she has all of the power in every situation. Every single time he/she is questioned or his/her authority is tested, all hell breaks loose. Staff give into the demands immediately. So, what have we really taught this client?

It is really irritating how the people at the office will pat themselves on the back, because it’s really not helping this client long term.

That‘s all. Just venting.

Oversharing, but….

Last night I had the sharpest, worst pain in the bottom part of my stomach. It was like nothing I ever felt before (excluding childbirth). I ended up laying down and stretching for a while and then just gave up and went to bed.

Praise be….this morning on my way to work I felt the urge and I ended up going into the Sheetz to poo. I had the longest (🤷‍♀️) bm of my life, and I feel like a new woman now.

This being said, have you ever had to go to the ER for constipation? I really didn’t know if it was a cyst or what I was dealing with to be honest.

Tis the season…..

I just always thought fraternities and sororities were so lame and cringey. The dances, the colors, just every damn thing about them. But, that’s just me. I’ve been out of college for 20+ years, but I just never had the desire.

Zucchini

Can someone please tell me how to make zucchini not be soggy? I do not want to fry it. I’ve tried the air fryer, the oven, and the stove. it’s edible, but I want it to have more of a crunch. I remove the seeds. I thought that would help. it really didn’t.

I use olive oil and Mrs. Dash spices to season it.

Thanks, in advance, for any help. my neighbor keeps giving me zucchini and Lord knows I need to eat it. 🥒

Hoarders…

Without giving too much information…..have you ever worked in the home of a true hoarder? I wasn’t told about the situation until after I accepted the job. it’s bad. I would give it a 7/10 for nastiness. It is also a huge fire hazard. The client has no desire to change the situation, and we are not allowed to remove any items, due to her self determination. The agency is definitely aware of the situation. There have been “written consequences” (being vague for a reason.

I can’t ask for another transfer. I swear I want to cry the whole time I’m there. it’s really an assault to my nervous system.

Any coping skills that you can recommend?

I have some questions....

I just started working for a big company as a DSP. I have over 25 years of experience working with people with disabilities, but in a different setting than a group home. (I don't want to give too much information about myself, but I do have a bachelor's degree and I really understand this population....as much as one can, anyways.) I do have a bachelor's degree and a high school diploma is all that is needed for this job.

So, here is the main question. I am still in training. But, there is something I have already seen an issue with. We have a schedule for who we are supposed to work with. But, the policy states that everyone is still responsible for all residents. So, on paper, I may be responsible for XX and XY, but if I see that XZ has had an accident, I need to take XZ to the restroom and get that person cleaned up.

I have only been here 5 days, but I have already seen the issue with this policy. One (or maybe two) people "see" everything and the other two or three, just conveniently don't "see" anything.

I really do NOT need this job for the money. I just really needed something to do with my time, and I also feel like GOD wants me in this field.

I have already talked to the supervisor about this issue, but she just said it's policy that whoever sees a need takes care of it. She also stays in her office ALL day, so she doesn't see anything.

I was helping residents during my training, because I just couldn't see them sit there with issues that I am more than capable of taking care of. Examples, wiping faces, cleaning up lunch messes on floor, repositioning in the wheelchair, taking residents to the bathroom. Again, I am still in training, but the residents have already come to me requesting bathroom help.

How does your place work? Do people just have certain residents to take care of? Or, does it work as described above?

Besides Ibuprofen

Has anyone found a way to slow down the bleeding? Ibuprofen really works for me, but I have to take a high dose and I worry about the long term side effects. I’m willing to try anything!! My doc prescribed Tranexamic Acid and it made me so cold that I was shivering. I took it once and that was it!

Larsa...I can see why people don't like her now....

I started watching Miami late, and I just started watching season 1. Larsa looks so different and she has such a gross attitude. The way she was speaking about the nannies was just disgusting. I can see why Scottie left her. She is insufferable.

That was NOT the same ring...

Just by what little bit they did show, I could tell that the ring that Dennis gave Porsha was NOT the same ring he gave her when he proposed. Why do they do dumb stuff like this thinking the fans are stupid???

Tisha

The elephant in the room is that Tisha wants more for herself because she KNOWS that Marsau cheats on her and she also knows that she’s eventually going to leave him because of it.

It’s all a part of the reality show woman handbook!

Can we talk about separate schools?

A different post I made has me thinking....

I have taught in NC for 20 years. We do not have any type of specialized schools for students who are not able to access the curriculum in the public school environment. NEVER have I heard of any admin suggesting or approving a special school. Even if they did, there would be nowhere for them to go, and I would most definitely be FIRED for even suggesting it. There is a developmental center, but you have to live there, and they have a VERY LONG waitlist. The group homes send the students to public school.

Two questions really....

  1. What do you do when there is physically no school for these students to go to? The parents are NOT able or willing to bring services into the home. School is their break. I am not judging them for that, but it's the truth. When I first started teaching, many parents would accept modified schedules, but now they won't. Again, I can see why they want their child in school a full day. Just stating what I know here. I feel like it went from.....thank you for taking my child 1/2 a day to my child DESERVES to be in school a full day overnight. Not saying they are wrong. Just a big shift.

  2. IF you do have a process for referring students to outside schools, what does that look like? Do they eventually come back, or do they stay at the other school until they graduate (assuming their needs are being met there)?

What do you do when there's just nothing you can do?

As a special ed teacher, I am NOT a miracle worker. When a child's nervous system is so dysregulated there is very little that I can do. I can collaborate with other support professionals, I can try to rearrange the learning environment to help with sensory needs, etc. But, the honest truth is this is NOT my only student, and even adding another adult body doesn't usually solve the problem. I am not blaming anyone here, because I know the parents go through it at home. But, what is the solution when school is not the right place for a child? In full disclosure I live in a place with no "specialized" schools, and I am not even sure that ABA would be a good fit for this particular child. I get that the child can't stay home all day. But, I am talking about things like trying to jump out the 2nd story windows, eating ALL school materials, screaming, and hurting staff (and himself) daily. This is ALLLLLLL day long.

As a human who loves to help and problem solve, I blame myself. Like, am I cut out for this at all? I've been in the game 20 years. But, it makes me feel like a failure.
