The dissertation examines how social media audiences affect individuals' proclivity to signal status in different ways. You are being invited to take part in a research study for my MSc Marketing dissertation for Alliance Manchester Business School, The University of Manchester. The study aims to explore and understand how individuals' perceptions of their social media audiences frame their status signalling behaviours. Before you decide whether to take part, please read the following information carefully and discuss it with others if you wish. Participants must be UK residents over-18 and have an Instagram account. The survey will take 10-12 minutes to complete remotely. It begins by collecting general background information regarding age and gender. Thereafter, individuals' underlying proclivity to status signalling, different status signalling behaviours, and perceptions of their social media audience are assessed. Participants are required to answer the questions as honestly as possible. Participation is completely voluntary, and those deciding to take part are still free to withdraw at any point during the survey without giving a reason and without detriment to themselves. However, it will not be possible to remove your data from the project once it has been anonymised, as we will not be able to identify your specific data.

By proceeding, you confirm that you understand that your participation in the study is voluntary and that you are free to withdraw at any time without giving a reason and without detriment to yourself. Furthermore, you understand that results from this study may be used for publications, reports and presentations, and it will not be possible to remove your data from the project once it has been anonymised and forms part of the data set.
