Building off of my last post of whether or not it was overwhelming for a romance story to shift genre and styles in the middle of a chapter for specific moments, lie action set pieces and whatnot.
I'd like to know what the title asks.
For context the main couple in my story is consistent of 2 very shy characters. They find comfort in one another and are the reason the other even try to improve.
But that's also my fear, they have siblings and friends that help out of course but the main source of peace is each other. They have been shy since little and have been friends for the same time
But I am afraid that it may come off too toxic, like what is originally something wholesome becomes something creepy.
Their goal aren't set in stone but because it takes place when they are college aged they should already lean towards the same field, so they do share quite some goals and attitudes
Any ways of knowing when I've crossed the line?

Soz long story short. after being inspired by a bunch of OCs and short stories I saw around the web I decided I wanted to do a romance, very wholesome stuff (for the most part)

But I didn't want to just do a slice of life story, but as I already have other stories that fill Sci-Fi and Fantasy settings I couldn't really come up with one fresh interesting idea

But one of my ideas to solve this was to have the story change, so it starts out with the characters at University, but then a fight breaks out and it shifts into a Star Wars setting and once that is done and they go to a bar, it shifts to Fantasy etc.

Right and maybe to tie it together have it so they are in art school? Or that the protagonists write stories? Though I wouldn't mind leave open ended as to these alternative versions being that, parallels to the regular world, like alternative realities
But I'm afraid this wouldn’t work and be overwhelming, and I’d like to know your guys and Gals opinions. Could this work? And would it help if I treated it like a Visual novel/ added images to each chapter/volume

So, due to work complications, Mike, Mary and Abby's parents did not live together, Mary grew up with her father and their fourth sibling Garrett. While Abby grew up with Mike.

Now, tragedy strikes and Mary has to move in with Mike and Abby (Still haven't decided if Their parents and Garrett die or not)

Mike - Oldest of the bunch, 22 years old. He tries his best to serve as a role model for the younger siblings. He is very tired, with several jobs as to keep the lights running (Either cause their parents are in medical debt or out of the picture) He does not like Michael and is wary of William. Is friends with Vanessa who is into robotics and wants to work at Freddy's

Mary- 17, same as Michael Afton (Who is very interested in her...as a Friend, or so he says). She is the quieter of the trio. She is overwhelmed by the change of everyday life. Not helped by her trauma related to a certain Cat and Rat themed restaurant. She is trying to bond with her siblings despite of her mellow nature also the only of the 3 with Agony/remnant abilities, she can see others memories and has visions, but she barely has control over it

Abby- 11 and Half! (Older than Elizabeth but younger than Cassidy and C.C) The only one that sleeps in that damn house. She knows things are rough but tries to keep spirits up. She is a bit lost and scared but tries not to show that side to the older siblings. She is big friends with Susie, and is overwhelmed by Charlotte's intense prankster energy
