Anybody tried these? Saw at 5 Below Yesterday

I haven't seen this before and i love sour strip type candy but I have found when a brand turns their main candy into a new form I'm often disappointed (skittles sour gummies come to mind), so thought I'd ask the experts here if anyone's tried these yet

Pfeiffer Big Sur Campground: Some Photos and Thoughts

A few weeks back we camped at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park Campground. Firstly, it was beautiful. 10/10 trip, will go back, highly recommend.

But I also wanted to make this post for any other families looking for info on the campground like I was and didn't really find much online! So here goes, in stream of consciousness order:

  1. Most but not all the bathrooms have showers. But all have flush toilets, running water, hand soap, and mirrors. No paper towels or seat covers but honestly better bathrooms (and cleaned every other day) than 95% of other campgrounds we've stayed at!

  2. Weyland Camp is the most exposed with the least trees and closest together sites. People on either side and you're staring at someone across from you by 10 feet. South Camp seemed to have the most redwood trees and the roomiest sites not too close to the neighbors, but the least river access. Also closest to the camp store. Main camp had lots of shade, best river access, but noisier and closer sites to each other. South camp was quietest. Camp Hosts were on it and anyone being loud was dealt with within 20-30 mins of quiet time. Also, people seem to sleep in. Even the others around us with kids weren't up before 8-8:30 most days.

  3. BRING BIKES. I came across this info literally nowhere online. Kids were riding bikes ALL OVER the campground, up and down the road, and most sites are not on or super close to the river where you could actually wade/play so a lot of people biked over to the swimming holes and areas with more shore access and their gear. It's a far walk from majority of sites in South and def Weyland camp and some in Main camp to the water areas, especially with kids.

  4. Big sur lodge has free wifi for those needing to check in with the outside world because the camp and anywhere without about 45 minutes north or south has no cell service (I expected this and was no issue just reaffirming for anyone who may ask). The lodge store also has more groceries than the camp store.

  5. Surrounding area food: we loved Big Sur River inn for the Adirondack chairs, the kids wading, and THE DRINKS were amazing. Best spicy margarita of my life. Deetjens breakfast was stellar. The taphouse was fun, we caught some of a world cup game, kids liked the food and store, husband really enjoyed the local beers they had on tap. We didn't much care for the other resorts in the area. We did go to Nepenthe- it's cool, expensive, and only has a good view if the weather is JUST right and it never was when we were there.

  6. Surrounding area hiking: loved Pfeiffer Falls trail, loved Point Lobos State Natural Reserve (we saw a sea otter! It was so cool!), and Limekiln was our favorite. Limekiln has the coolest beach I've ever seen, and the nature on the trail was breathtaking. The trail to the falls is closed but we saw people actively working on it so hopefully eventually. But Limekiln is a can't miss in my book.

Bonus: we visited Carmel and Mad Dogs and Englishmen coffee shop made amazing drinks and my husband (who is a coffee snob, truly I cannot underscore enough) said it was the best nitro cold brew he has EVER had. And we live in LA. There's a lot of fancy coffee here, folks.

What's your favorite mascara that doesn't look like you're wearing any?

I'm not being a pick me "no make up clean girl" I swear lol. I just find most of them give me too full of a look, too much volume or density, and are pretty dark even when I try brown mascaras.

I just want something that coats my already long lashes because my lashes are SUPER blonde at the ends (honestly from middle up) because mascara makes my eyes look 50 times more awake and with 2 kids I need all the help I can get.

BUT I don't wear a lot of makeup daily especially in summer so most mascaras look silly with my unmade my face. Like clubbing lashes for the park lol

Please help!!

Kids baseball: can anyone explain the difference between PONY and Little League to me?

Like from an EXPERIENCE standpoint it pertains to the South Bay. Like I can look up rule differences and stuff obviously but I don't get the difference other than the fact they're diff orgs, and little leagues seem to be town specific but PONY baseball isn't.

And we have South Bay PONY, Redondo Sunset, Torrance American, etc all around so it must be popular??

Favorite lightweight body moisturizer for summer?

Summer heat has arrived, and my usual body butters are too thick and melting right off of me. I know EOS is popular but it's really not my fave.

Anyone have some tried and true (hopefully budget friendly) lightweight body moisturizers they love for summer/warm humid weather?

Parents Who Never Went: How did you decide to send your kid to sleepaway camp?

Other than a few short church camps, I did not go to sleepaway camp as a child, and it was not the norm. Where we live now (California) it's not as common as I know it is in places like NY or PA, but you definitely meet a lot of people (maybe a 40/60 or 30/70 split with camp attendees being the low number ) of folks whose kids go away for 1-3 weeks in the Summer to instate camps. But most of these parents you meet sending their kids did not go themselves

My kid is 5 so we're a ways off from this as it seems to be common here for kids to start around age 9, but I'm curious if any other parents are willing to share what led them to this choice if they themselves never went to sleepaway camps?

Daily tretinoin users: do you use any other serums at night?

I have combination skin with extremely dry cheeks because of rosacea. One of my biggest concerns with going to tret daily is giving up my night time hydrating serums.

Heavy and occlusive moisturizers make my rosacea worse and my forehead oilier which is why I choose light watery serums/toners instead and it makes a huge difference in soothing my redness and keeping my skin plump and hydrated and my t-zone normal looking so just switching to a heavy moisturizer and dropping the serums isn't an option, nor is moving them to AM because I use other prescription products and vitamin C in the AM.

So I'm just wondering if anyone else uses hydrating serums or even any serums at all with their tret at night and can tell me about it?

FWIW, using tret for hyperpigmentation mainly and mild fine lines on my forehead, 0.025% every other night

Has anyone with sensitive skin used this? Manyo Glutathione Serum

Wanting to try something to tackle my dark spots but with sensitive skin it's always a 1-step forward 2-step back process so looking to see if anyone else with sensitive skin has tried this and can tell me how they liked it

My friend's kid will turn 3 on like September 4th.

The city runs swim lesson sessions all summer. The last one beginning in mid august. Kids need to be 3 to start. Friend wants to sign up for both the two week swim intensive (daily for 30-45 mins) and the last session of swim lessons that is once or twice a week (can't remember what she said) for 45 minutes for 6 weeks.)

Her kiddo will technically be 3 about halfway through the 6 week session and not at all during the two week intensive. He has been doing other types of swim lessons off on since about 18 months old and will continue to in the lead up.

She wants to lie about his age and sign him up. Parks and rec website they use for signing up does not require proof of age, nor does the swim lesson when you arrive, so she can just put his birthday as something else and lie extremely easily. Friend says she knows a bunch of other Sept/Oct birthday parents who have done this.

Is this a mind my own business situation? My worry is about swim safety but technically parents have to stay the whole time anyways... I dunno I just feel weird about it

The flavors are really good and distinct and they are actually sour (and I'm a sour fiend) and the texture is amazing. They need more love.

After many years of refusing help and doing all the wrong things, this January, finally, my husband came to me for help with his skincare.

His routine:

Vanicream Cleanser AM/every other night

Panoxyl cleanser PM/every other night

Naturium Azelaic Acid 2x a day

Cocokind water cream 2x a day

Biore Aqua UV Japanese formula SPF AM

His skin is dramatically better after 4 months. Most of the redness and cystic acne and inflammation is gone. His back is basically clear, and his chest is 85% better.

BUUUTTT His face is still struggling. He is still decently oily and has lots of small, non cystic closed comedones.

I'm not sure where to go from here to help him add something to his routine to help reduce his oiliness and closed comedones as these aren't things I struggle with.

What are some great OTC products you love or use that could help?

I am thinking of a retinoid but his last attempt just made his skin really inflamed and he didn't see results even after 4 months.

Bought this during the sale after making a post here, have used it a few times in the last, and wanted to come back to review. Overall I'm happy to say I give this a 9/10!

I am PALE AF and don't tan, both because I burn and because I choose to stay out of the sun due to a family history of skin cancer. But I like how spray tans and bronzing drops make my face look. I hadn't tried self tan for face at home for fear because I have rosacea and extremely sensitive skin.

Happy to report this did not flare my rosacea or cause a skin reaction and no breakouts so far!!! The color is great, very bronze and glowy and not orangey at all on me. I've gotten a lot of compliments. Lasts about 4-5 days and only need around 3 sprays for the face which doesn't use much product.

I lay down on a towel and spray it and it's dry in about 2 minutes. Not streaky or orangey or blotchy. Very even and easy to use spray, good color. I shower daily and it doesn't wash off, and I used it RIGHT before the gym recently (do not recommend) and I SWEATED and it didn't come off either so that's a win.

I use it over my skincare, if you use it under it rubs off (tried both) but haven't used it over tretinoin. I usually apply at night before bed after my moisturizer.

-1 point because it does have a bit of fake tan smell. If a spray tan is 10/10 strong scent, this is like 2-3/10. So pretty good but if you're super sensitive it might bother you.

Overall, I highly recommend for other pale girlies looking for a face tanner!!

Families in a HCOL: is thrive market worth it for you mainly for kids snacks and pantry staples?

Target has started carrying more of these brands but also trying to shop at Target less (we don't have a ton reasonably priced of grocery options close-by so I do what I can) and the other place that carries a lot of the healthier brands of kids snacks and pantry stuff is Sprouts which is pretty pricey but still a bit less costly than our very overpriced local grocery store which also has less of these options.

I can't figure out how to see prices of stuff without subscribing to compare to my local grocery prices either!

Alright, my current "home improvement" project is prepping for our summer camping trips.

BUT- last year we had a site RIDDLED with yellow jackets. Like dozens. Fire, smoke, bug candles, bug spray, etc didn't deter them. I had no cell service at the time to google it, so now that our camping season approaches it is time to research what to do the next time we encounter a hoard of yellow jackets trying to live on our dinner plates.

So what do we do if this happens again? How do we keep them at bay? We ended up eating inside our tent one of the nights it was so severe which I do not recommend
