In London for a Few Days: What’s the deal with people spitting and forcing snot out their nostrils whilst walking down the street?

Had a few lovely experiences with people holding one nostril closed and breathing hard out of the other one allowing their snot to come flying out

Also spitting whilst walking

Some cyclists spitting too

I do not remember seeing this in London 20 years ago, what’s going on?

Football World Cup carnage: For Those Keeping an Eye on 2026 FIFA World Cup in USA as a Proxy for 2031 RWC in USA

Up to 70% of the rooms reserved by FIFA in Boston, Dallas, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Seattle have been canceled, the U.S. Hotel Association reported.

The World Cup was supposed to provide a tourism boom for the US, but now the fear is it may never materialise.

Why are there so many posts here from students with offers who have done little or no research?

So often hear I see posts like:

“I just got an offer from [terrible university], is it a good university?”

Or

“I just got an offer from University in [town or city x] But I know nothing about [town or city X], can someone tell me something about the place?”

I’m shocked at the lack of basic research from these people

Before choosing to apply to university, why not find out even the most basic details about the university, the course and the place where the university is located?

Is Adrian The Best Barometer for Quality?

Interesting that Bring Your Daughter and Fear of the Dark were so commercially popular as I thought they were weak albums compared to those that proceeded them.

Bring Your Daughter in particular in laughable IMO

The fact that Adrian decided to leave the band whilst Steve was pushing towards Bring Your Daughter says to me that Adrian is a very good barometer of taste

He played on all the classic 80’s albums and then quit when he thought the band was regressing

On the flipside, fans keep telling me to listen to Brave New World

Yea it’s Bruce’s comeback album but it’s also Adrian’s comeback album too. Maiden seem to have done adequately well without Bruce but when Adrian came back they suddenly made by all accounts their best album since the classic 80’s

And that’s not coincidence

So perhaps it’s Adrian, arguably the least heralded guy in the band who is actually the best at deciding what will be quality

And perhaps Adrian is also the ingredient they need to make that quality. They simply can’t do it without him

Iron Maiden Confession - Stuck Somewhere in Tike

Thought I’d share my weird Iron Maiden aituation

Life After Death was the first album I ever bought. I was about 10 or 11.

I saw it in the record store and the cover mesmerized me.

Over 35 years later I still listen to that album every week.
It’s in rotation in my car alongside Seventh Son

I’m a live after death mega fan!

In the next few years I bought everything Iron Maiden released. Their latest album was Bring Your Daughter. So I got that and every prior album.

Then Fear of the Dark came out in 1992 and I bought that. I also went to my first ever gig in 1992 or 1993, Iron Maiden at Wembley.

And after that Bruce left sometime in Late 1993. And I never listened to another Iron Malden album made since then.

I’ve never heard Blaze Bailey sing and I could not name a single song that Iron Maiden have written in the past 33 years. Of course I know Bruce rejoined but I have. I ideas what songs he’s sing in the last 33 years.

It’s absolutely bizarre!

When did Polite Phone Etiquette on Trains Disappear?

I’m currently on a train and one one side of me is a guy having a very loud business conversation in English holding the phone at arms length.

Not to be outdone, a woman sitting on the other side of me initiates a call and starts loudly talking in Dutch, again with phone at arms length

They are now competing with each other for volume

When did this become normal and acceptable behavior on UK trains?

I don’t think World Rugby know what they are doing by awarding RWC 2031 to USA

I’ve been watching a lot of too tier US rugby recently and the standard is terrible

And at college level (where American footballers are paid literal USD millions whilst still at Uni to play in front crowds of 60,000 people) the VERY best Ivy League rugby players are playing dogshit rugby for free in front of 10 spectators

WR have massively underestimated how little the States knows or cares about rugby and this RWC has come decades too early

Career Guidance: RMP vs RAF Police vs Royal Marines Police

A family member is keen to join the police in one of the branches of UK military as an officer.

Im helping him research the various options but the information online is not helping point him indirection or another. Theres hardly anything about RAF police or Royal Marines police so very hard to get an understanding of their roles.

It seems the RMP is the biggest branch of the three and possibility therefore the best training and widest career options.

He has no particularly affinity with any branch it’s more about level of interest and involvement. He’s not keen on just guarding a gatepost.

Usual jokes about military police aside, would appreciate any insight and guidance as we seek to compare and contrast the options

Thanks!

Why aren’t more foreign visitors hiring cars when they visit the UK?

I often see quite elaborate itineraries posted here, crossing the country and then then phrase “we aren’t hiring a car”

Why not?

Is it the cost or are people put off driving in the “wrong” side of the road?

Whenever I go on holiday I hire a car, it’s brilliant. Total freedom.

Found Out My Grandad was Born in WV In 1905 - What Is The Area Like Now?

Specifically in the Beckley - Oak Hill area

His father was a coal miner and English immigrant.

My family left WV shortly after my grandfather was born and travelled back to England

I understand the coal industry in WV is gone now and there’s not much left but would be interested to hear from folks who live there to see what the place is like today on that specific area

Seb Adeniran-Olule

I have been aware about the tragic passing of Harlequins prop Seb at age 20 for many years. I had read multiple times that he passed away in a car accident.

I was therefore extremely shocked to read a few days ago about his death now being referred to as suicide.

Im struggling to come to terms with that and I’ve been trying to find out additional information but could not.

Is the inference that he purposefully crashed his car?

I’m sad and confused about this. Is anyone able to shed any light on it?

Hello

I’m doing some family research and found out a few ancestors were born and living in Ryhope in 1900. The father of the house was a miner at Ryhope Colliery

What is Ryhope like today?
