Jennifer Taylor-Clarke didn’t bother dressing up on Red Nose Day. Gareth was hopping, David had the ostrich costume, even Neil dressed up and danced. What did Taylor-Clarke do? Nothing, just wore her usual black attire to sack Brent. She is no fun and she doesn’t care about the Africans. Pathetic!

She’s the exact opposite of a chilled out entertainer, the uptight fun monitor

Just found out Neil is 10 years younger than Brent. Imagine how embarrassing it is to have your boss being a decade younger than you and then sacking you. Pathetic!

Advice needed: Living in Suburbs of Lux City vs A Large town in Esch Sur Alzette.

Currently looking at these two options

Can work from home but would need to be in Lux City Office 2 to 3 days per week. So transport links are important.

In Esch I’m considering Esch itself, Dudelange and Differdange

In Lux City I’m thinking Gasperich, Strassen, Walferdange or Heisdoef or perhaps even Kirchberg

Interested to know what people thing of these areas in terms of cost of rental property, transport links (all are on the train), local amenities (shops, leisure etc) and commuting into the City

Anywhere else I should take a look at?

Also any areas to definately avoid?

Gone off Gervais now have ya? The Office will always be a classic, sure, notwithstanding the cruel to be kind scenario, everything he’s done in the last 20 years has been rubbish, we had to let him go in the end.

A compliment to Stephen Merchant if anything and you do not punish more junior staff for being funnier than you

Axl is only 3.5 years younger than Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden!

GNR did a tour with Maiden in the 1980’s and it was very much billed as Maiden the old dinosaurs VS the young energetic upstarts

Turns out there’s only 3 years difference in age between dinosaur Bruce and exciting young Axl!

[Aug. 31st 1997] Sacre Bleu! It's just a few minutes after midnight and we wanted to cross Place de la Concorde by foot when this clearly speeding limo rushed closely past us. Even worse, a bunch of scooters and motorbikes were following it like a stampede.

The casting in The Office was very good accept for Rachel. A prominent role in series 2 yet the worst of all actors/actresses on the show by far. She even ruins the famous Brent dance scene by corpsing (cracking up) in the background.

Plenty of much better actresses who could’ve undertaken that role

The girls from the nightclub or the girl from the “blind date” scene for example

When Brent was made redundant, Neil and Jennifer gave David “more than he expected” in severance pay and Neil said that Wernham Hogg had been “very generous”

The board must’ve obviously rated and/or liked David, especially since they previously offered him the top job ahead of Neil

That slug Neil was trying to pass off David’s large leaving package as his doing, when he was the main architect of Brent leaving and probably fought hard ti minimize the leaving package

Why do some elite Royal Marines prefer joining Mountain Leader Training Cadre to the SBS (and vice versa)?

First up, I can’t join either so this isn’t about me or my aspirations.

Really welcome everyone’s thoughts on why someone might prefer Mountain Leader (ML) to SBS, or vice versa

Basic training for the Royal Marines is the longest in the world and certainly one of if not THE hardest. Becoming a RM is a massive accomplishment.

The best of the best are often assumed to go on to SBS.

But I’m fascinated by the RM Mountain Leader Cadre after seeing an amazing documentary on them called behind the lines. First episode here:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TXJb\_zlq7r4

ML are not special forces but the ML course is widely considered equally tough to S.A.S./SBS selection and many insiders consider the cadre to be de-facto SF in all but name. Yet they certainly don’t have the reputation, aura or awareness in public that SBS or SAS have

Former SBS member Pasha Munro was also a ML and online he is interviewed saying the ML course harder than SAS/SBS selection

The ML1 and ML2’ courses take a combined 70 weeks of training to pass. So over 16 months total. And to even attempt ML2 you need to be an RM. then to attempt ML1 you need to be a 2 year qualified ML2. Very tough.

So I’m very interested to know why some elite RM attempt the ML route and then stay with them rather than go SBS. I have asked a former Colonel from RM and he couldn’t explain!

My potentially incorrect musings:

ML: lots of amphibious beach landings, vertical cliff assaults and skiing. Lots of arctic and mountainous terrain training. Also undertake covert surveillance roles. Suits those that like climbing, skiing and operating in cold environments and who are happy undertaking long range surveillance.

SBS: wider range of opportunities. From counterterrorism, oil rig and ship raids, desert operations, submersible operations. More opportunities for close quarter battles and urban warfare. Appeals to guys who want constant action in a variety of settings.

The only thing negative I’ve heard about ML is that as an experienced ML1 you are doing mostly teaching of ML1 and ML2 courses, so it can get boring being an instructor going over the same things all the time. Meanwhile the SBS guys are out on jobs a lot. So more exciting in comparison.

Lastly, there’s a third option for elite RM, which is to join SAS Mountain Troop. But I presume there is a cultural reason is for not joining. I suggest most marines would prefer to stay with fellow marines in ML rather than join the army to do mountain work.

Really welcome everyone’s thoughts on why someone might prefer ML to SBS, or vice versa

Cheers!

FIFA World Cup USA 2026 learnings for RWC 2031 USA

Ideally have two regional bases to max hype. Say North east (New York, Boston, Washington) plus one other area

Don’t put teams in the middle of nowhere like fucking Kansas or spread them out too thinly

Put the Scots and /or Irish in Boston - play off the Celtic heritage . Tartan army in Boston is highlight of FIFA World Cup so far.

Make sure all the players and referees can actually gain entry to the USA
