What does Gen Z mean by punk?

I'm a little bit confused. Is it a TikTok trend? A fashion style?

«I love creativity, music, and socializing. But I feel lonely because I can't seem to find my people. I vibe with metal, goth, punk, and all kinds of self-expression.»

Does that quote by a punk describe it well?

Is there any core ideology or protest or is it just a vibe?

Is the culture now reserved exclusively for young people? What is the first thing that comes to mind if a 30-35+ year-old person claims they are a punk? Like old man went crazy, trying to pose as young but getting the aesthetics wrong?

A thought experiment:

If there is a group of them in a closed space, playing guitars, singing, drinking and having fun, should a 20-year-old girl (who claims to be a punk as well) avoid them?

Should she stick to her own age-segregated punk crowd?

What Gen Z and Alpha mean by "punk"?

I'm literally confused.

https://www.reddit.com/r/russianmusic/comments/1ui5i6s/

It is in Russian, but Reddit have autotraslate. In case it is not working:

>OP: Looking for punk friends in Pyatigorsk

>Hey. I love creativity, music, and socializing. But I feel lonely because I can't seem to find my people. I vibe with metal, goth, punk, and all kinds of self-expression.

>My Telegram: Fukkatsumi_67

>Hope this works out for me 😆

As a full-time punk, so I replied:

>in the Moscow region, there are about 500 garages in my block, and around 6 or 7 of them are hubs for all kinds of punks, lowlifes, and greaseballs.

>We even have minor celebrities hanging around, and there's a killer, fully equipped rehearsal space. Generally, everyone sticks to their own crews and garages, but everybody knows everybody.

>It's totally normal for someone unknown to just burst in like, "Hey guys, what are you playing? I play bass, I'm in this band called Ca..." — and before he finish, he’s already been pulled into a seat with a cup of cheap beer shoved into his hand.

>Or you can just drop by someone's place uninvited. But most of the time, they’ll invite you in themselves.

>So grab your old man’s garage keys, take a guitar if you play and go for a walk, maybe there are such spots in your garage block.

OP reaction:

>"How surprised would you be if I told you I’m a girl and not even 20? 🫠 The crowd here is definitely not what I expected. Oh well."

Not even a bit? Imagine expecting radicals fixated on freedom, equality, nonconformity, and anti-fascism to care about age or gender. Only, a kid under 15, may be sent home but they aren't around as well.

Since I reject any authorities, I, of course, have no intention of gatekeeping anyone from the punk movement. I'm just surprised at what youth culture has transformed into in the West (where our trends are copied from). What did she even mean by "punk"? what "crowd was expected by her"?

And just don't tell me that they aren't just looking to hang out with their peers, but also think that garages are "toxic" places where they could be subjected to "microaggressions" or "abuse"? or even "sexualized violence"? "Violating personal boundaries" with mohawk spikes perhaps?

It’s interesting what they would call places where crowds of every age, sex, skin color, skull measurement, gather on weekends, drink, sometimes excessively, have a good time, and yet over the years there hasn't been a single conflict? "Antidote" spaces? And that's exactly what our garages are.

Could someone please explain what "punk" even means today? Searching the internet and asking chatbots just gives confusing answers. That's not a single case there are Telergam chat links in that thread with hundreds of young adults teenagers who are discussing mainly clothes, even when they share music it's nowhere near punk-rock. Neither they have seem to have any radical or anarchist ideas

(post is heavy AI-polished because I guess it's lesser evil than my broken English)

For those from the West — we live in apartments and there are standalone garage blocks in the outskirts or unpleasant locations. It naturally becomes a habitat where any noise doesn't bother anyone

What tuner apps do you use?

I have a shitload of them — for the basic tuning GuitarTuna seems ok, but if I need to tune in drop D I use totally free Fender tune. Just to change top string because tuning all with it is inconvinient. Do they seriously want me to pay subsription for a tuner? That I use less than once a month?

I have a few more tuners, but I don't remember why I keep them exactly.

Would appreciate advices, which tuner is the best, don't mess up octaves, ad-free and sub-free. Sure I don't mind to pay a few bucks, if that is a good product.

How to go viral without money, but with potential? (and a "I will not promote us" flag)

I have a mind-blowing idea and a fully working Android app prototype. Everyone from niche target audience, let's say amateur/street soccer players, are shocked by wow-effect, and say "Brilliant!", "Stunning!", "Game changer" and so on. They are ready to pay $5/mo right now.

I can't release it because of sanctions, but I had found lifelong friends (in the Ukraine, ironically) so it is not really a problem.

I might need initial funding -(*) there are already some huge players (apps) with loyal audience and paid subscripters. They have offices, and software development departments. It's a matter of a couple of days for them to copy my concept.

So I need to break in fast, invest in promo to go viral and become a de-facto standard, like GoPro in one's best years. What could be the solution if I am poor? Russia is isolated so there isn't any venture funds or so on.

My suggestion is to make a flawless product. Spend a fuckload of time and increase the test cohort from 30 to 300 people. Show them, if the reaction is just as passionate -(*) release and spam to famous Tik-Tokers or whoever are trendsetters in target demographic (that is roughly 13-23 y.o., their influencers are subject to research). It should be highly viral, if anyone will notice (imagine a phone vibrating in your pocket that teaches you how to play soccer good). But I am a realist and sure that said influencers never even open DM. And I can't send a business inquiry because of lack of money.

Are there even possibilities to start with?

*fuck you, AI filters, it's a place for em-dash, not hyphen

It is not a promo, or soliciting of any kind, I guess nobody in right mind is going to mess up with Russia, nor do I want this.

There are many "i'm out of vibecoding ides" threads, is "I'm overflown with ideas" allowed?

My exact ideas are Android-specific, or even Wear OS-specific (Android Studio + Gemini/Codex or Antigravity):

  1. In Wear OS, Google Maps starts to synchronize from the phone to the watch only when navigation mode is active. Many people want immediate synchronization, such as when a point is found.
  2. A MeshCore fork without any unnecessary stuff (I'm making a Meshtastic one myself).
  3. Standard Wear OS music controls don't work with Telegram music.
  4. A basketball (insert any game) training app that logs shots (successful/unsuccessful) along with accelerometer data and provides suggestions to improve.*
  5. An NFC-key app.

Android (Android Studio + Gemini/Codex or Antigravity):

  1. Old PC helper. Download there all CMOS codes, PC speaker signals and so on. Gemini has 1,000,000 token context window.

Non-Wear OS (microcontrollers) (Antigravity IDE is basically a VSCode for and supports PlatformIO):

  1. Unmanned airship (blimp) software. I've made a prototype, but it gets blown away by the wind and is basically unguided. The best scenario would be to automatically burn gas like a hot air balloon, or use a controlled chemical reaction (acid + metal) to generate H2 and then pump it. Helium is expensive, and since it's a boson, it leaks through the pores in latex.

I have many other. (post was a little bit AI polished as English is not my native language)

Is offering to make a photoshoot to an acquaintance considered a "flirt" or weird?

I was a sports reporter and left with a bunch of equipment. Nowadays do photography for fun and as a small side hustle. My friends who own a subculture store sometimes ask for something like a photoshoot outside by a graffiti wall with their accessories (like sneakers or a hat).

Posting messages in local communities like "Looking for an everyday girl, not a professional model, for an X shop promo. If your style matches Y, you are willing to participate you are likely to get brand stuff for free. Free professional photoshot anyway". Results in commets are like "pervert!" or "voyeur!"

Ok, I have gotten used to it. If I need a female model - I DM some dude that took part and got his Kanye West sneakers or whatever, I know nothing about fashion. But anywas, offering a photoshoot (in crowded public place, not a hotel room without clothes) is always perceived like some kind of weird flirt.

The lastest occasion:

We were hanging out in a small group -- hitting the beach, going for walks, visiting bars, and so on, when I noticed that a female friend of my friend was taking selfies every 10 seconds. I said, "Hey, I see you love taking photos. I could bring my DSLR next time. Check out my IG to see that photography isn't dead as an art form yet." She checked it and said, "Wow, really stunning photos," and kept scrolling for several minutes making similar comments.

There wasn't a single candid or nude photo on my feed. My last photoshoot had been when I randomly met a very old gentleman on the street. He was wearing a crisp three-piece suit, a shiny white shirt, a tie, a hat, and carrying a cane. I asked like, "Sir, I'm sorry to interrupt your promenade, but you look amazing. Could I... blah-blah... here is my IG... blah-blah..." He didn't even bother to check and just posed with great confidence.

Later, I was told that the girl is now avoiding gatherings if I'm there because she said I "flirted way past the limit." I wasn't even thinking about that, nor did I pay her any compliments like I did to the old guy, let alone offer a nude photoshoot in a private place.

(sorry me English is not good)

Would offering a symbolic sum like $50 help? (to store promo, sure not any art prohects or friends driends)

Are anyone dissapointed in Galaxy Watch purchase?

I''ve recently bought top watch 7 model for $50*. So technically there is not any major difference with latest flagship. I am satisfied less than with old Chinese mass market cheap watches that I had (like Harmony OS). The only reason I keep them — is for it's price it's a nice toy for tinkering. I'm Android dev and they are customizable unlike Chinese.

What annoys me the most:

— pitiful battery life, less than a day (always on-screen disabled, permanent heart rate enabled)
— upmarket functionality like eSIM is useless. screen size is too small to type messages, built-in speaker and microphone are a joke and totally useless
— NFC is useless, you need to twist your arm like an yogi practicioner to use Samsung Pay. grabbing phone or card from the pocket is faster and more convinient
— the worst thing is UX, so many steps to reach basic functionality like full-screen music controls, find a phone,
— Samsung "ecosystem" basically not exists, I haven't found any pros in having phone and watch from the same vendor
— cheap plastic wristband that tucks inside and disturbs skin (sorry for my English, I hope you understand what I meant)

Anyone else dissapointed? what are your points? or I am doing something wrong?

*local discount and not still avaliable if anyone paranoid enought to think it's a hidden promo

Subreddits for running non-commercial surveys, polls, and market research for indie/open-source projects?

I am looking for subreddits or communities where independent creators and open-source developers can interact with target audiences to gather feedback, run polls, or conduct market research.

Many niche hobby groups have very strict filters against any questions or surveys. I am looking for alternative spaces where doing a non-commercial survey or asking users about their feature preferences is welcomed.

Are there specific subreddits dedicated to:

  1. Finding participants for niche surveys and polls?
  2. Gathering user feedback for early-stage open-source tools?
  3. General platforms for creators to do community-driven research?

Any suggestions on where to find these types of research-friendly spaces would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
