People who work fully remote - do you really like it or are there some days you miss going into the office?

I am someone who doesn’t mind going into the office if the commute is reasonable. However, I also feel like when you’re remote, you can ignore/avoid corporate politics better and annoying people. I feel like remote work is better for your mental health somewhat because you avoid that BS and stay at your home.

How is being 100% remote?

People who work at gas stations and retail stores - how often do you see people buying an unusual amount of gift cards?

Do you get suspicious and are you allowed to intervene?

I’ve seen stories where people step up early on, especially if it’s with elderly people, and call the cops and stop them from feeding money into their Crypto/Bitcoin machines. It is quite wholesome to watch random people looking out for one another.

Is it rude to say “no” to someone who wants to do other things after an outing?

So, I met this guy at a party two weeks ago and he invited me to go bowling with him. I said “sure” and that’s been the plan for a while. He texts me again and asked/suggested we go to the bar nearby to watch the World Cup.

I’m getting ready to go on vacation in a couple days and I still have a crap ton of stuff to do. And I don’t want to feel rushed with anything. So, I denied the World Cup watch party invite. But, we’re still going bowling.

Is that rude or normal to do? I feel bad, but I’m also on a time crunch. I texted him and he seemed okay with it, though.

Thoughts on PNC Bank

How’s their customer service?

How’s their online banking? Does it feel secure?

Is their fraud hotline legitimate if anything were to happen? (Does it seem like they actually care and are they good at solving issues?)

Do they have any weird policies?

Are they good with LOC and loan management?

Overall, do you trust them?

Update about the scam I fell victim to a week ago

I ended up getting the bulk of my money back ~1,000 dollars (Cash App scam) and am only out $295 in total (Apple gift card payments).

While I am relieved about getting the majority of my money back, I’m still pissed that Apple refuses to help me get my money back as my account was literally hacked. But, I’m getting paid soon anyways, so that will cover the $295 loss.

I have learned a very valuable lesson and am just extremely lucky that I one, got the majority of my money back and two, am only out a couple hundred dollars whereas people can lose THOUSANDS. I’ve also read that getting your money back can be quite difficult and is usually a less than 5% chance.

Just got scammed a few days ago

It was one of those “my payment has been put on hold unless you deposit a fee to turn your personal account into a business account” type thing. Then, I was tricked into sharing my screen and downloading CashApp, showing my license, last 4 digits of my SSN and everything. I lost < $300, but I’m worried something may happen in the future.

My biggest fear is my identity being stolen and used.

I locked my credit card and am getting a new debit card soon. I called my bank immediately.

It’s been a few days and there haven’t been any unusual transactions on either of my cards or in my checking account. I haven’t gotten any weird texts, calls or anything in the mail regarding unusual purchases, complaints or medical bills received on procedures I didn’t pay for.

Do you think I’m safe and okay now? Did I act accordingly and in time?

Seeing interns and new associates making their one month appreciation post for their jobs on LinkedIn will never not make me laugh

The only people I ever see doing this are the try-hards. I see posts about starting a new position, getting promoted, or even getting a return offer and either interning again or being hired full-time, but these one month ass kiss “appreciation” posts need to stop. It’s a job for Christ’s sake.

FB Marketplace Scams vs Valid Purchases

I’ve been a seller on marketplace for almost 5 years. During that time, I have been successful in avoiding any scams and have made decent money in the past years.

I’ve been reading stories about sellers being ripped off by scammers wanting to buy their items and then the sellers end up being lured into paying the scammers as “payment”. Just as an FYI to new sellers in Marketplace, do not trust anyone who says that they will have a “relative” come by and pick up the item. This indicates a scam to me because it involves the buyer “not being able to process the payment through a payment app” like Venmo or Zelle. Their payment gets put on “hold” and it somehow becomes your responsibility to solve the issue.

I’ve been selling stuff for years and have found that local, cash only pickup has been the best option. A lot of my customers also use PayPal the most and the BUYERS often PAY for my stuff beforehand and my only responsibility is to print the mailing label and send it out to out of state buyers. Those transactions are legitimate as well.

People really need to stop investing in BitCoin and Crypto

I think Crypto is a scam.

In my opinion, I’ll never even consider buying this. The whole idea of this kind of money has always been shady to me. In fact, doing money transfers with cryptocurrency is one of the few transactions that you will NEVER get back. Your bank cannot help you retrieve those lost funds.

Wire transfers, BitCoin and cryptocurrency are the three main financial transactions that are irreversible. Once that money is gone, you’re sunk.

[US] Is it normal to feel like such a dumbass when getting scammed?

I fell for a scam on FB marketplace where someone was pretending to be interested in buying my item. But, they said that their “relative” was going to pick it up. They used Venmo as a payment method and there was an issue where Venmo “blocked” their payment because they were using a business account and I had my personal one.

Long story short, this whole scenario led me to be scammed out of a little less than $1,300.

I feel extremely stupid and feel like I let myself down as I was literally questioning the red flags that occurred during this whole thing. However, I was blindsided by the fact that I don’t usually sell stuff and was new on Marketplace. I also had two legitimate and successful sales before this.

Is $1,300 a lot for me? Yes, but it’s not 10k or 20k like what I’ve seen on here and with my job, I can easily get it back in a month.

And, I did contact my bank right away where there is a slim chance I could get my money back.

Does anyone here cautiously plan hangouts, get togethers and/or vacations around their periods or is it just me?

My period is actually very tolerable compared to the horror stories I’ve seen in this thread. Flow management lasts about 3 days and I only get cramps at the very beginning and end of my 5-day cycle. I do take Tylenol sometimes, but that’s only to manage mild cramping or menstrual headaches.

However, with that being said, I am very uptight and worried more about just bleeding through my clothes which is why I dread being on my period going anywhere. I have gone to places while on my period, but, as you can imagine, the experience is more exhausting because I’m so worried about my pad leaking or something.

My mom has always said to “just deal with it” because it happens all of the time. Which is true.

But, if I am planning a get together with friends, going swimming, an amusement park or even a surprise bachelorette party, I am someone who will help plan around your period or I will mention it if mine interferes.

I just saw my old firm, that was recently bought out completely by PE, say that the buyout will be “great for the team”.

Dude, you’re outsourcing jobs and laying people off. The only people safe from acquisitions and PE buyouts are honestly partners and upper management. Everyone else will either leave or get laid off at one point.

I think 50% of our problems in the workplace come from BS people

I worked in corporate for 2.5 years before going back to my old job I had at 16.

I’m working on getting my CPA, so the country club job is just so I can afford the test fees.

I came across so many different people in corporate and for the most part, it was tolerable. But, I worked somewhere for a little over a year that was MISERABLE and it wasn’t the work that sucked. It was my co-workers.

It was summer, busy season had ended and we were all just talking about our vacation plans. A lot of people said they were going to Florida, California, out West, go up to New England (US), etc. Well, I decided to just chime in and join the conversation and told everyone my parents and I were going to go on a river cruise to Paris. Paris holds a special place in my heart and my family as my mom grew up there during her childhood, so I was really excited and looking forward to going. The only words that came out of my mouth were “my parents and I are going to go on a river cruise to Paris, France”. This is important for what happened next.

Right after I chimed into the conversation as I thought I could since we were talking about vacations, a manager spoke up and said something along the lines of “woah, okay, no need to brag or anything. Not everyone can afford to go to Europe”.

This bitch deadass called me out for “bragging” about my vacation when all I did was share my plans like EVERYONE ELSE WAS. While everyone else gave each other attention and interest of other places, I just got weird looks and blamed for sharing and labeled as bragging. The person who called me out was a grown woman who’s in her mid-thirties. (I’m 24).

I felt a bit weird for the rest of the day and didn’t share anything else to these people until I left a couple months later. Why are people jealous over the smallest shit? I don’t care if you’re 21 and have seen half of the world. I’d still be happy for you that you got to experience that.

“Have more kids than you’re financially able to support” has got to be the most stupid advice ever. Who actually thinks this is a good idea?

Erika Kirk says this all of the time on her grieving tours to push women to have babies.

Many people with a single brain cell consider their financial situation when getting a pet let alone before having a kid. Do conservatives who think like this not know what consequences or CPS are?

If you cannot support a child properly, whether it be financially, mentally or emotionally, that affects their mentality, living environment and overall safety. When a child doesn’t feel safe or is unable to get proper necessities for survival like food, water, clothes and adequate shelter, CPS can get involved. A financial strain can lead to neglect, stress and abuse, both mentally and physically. Hope, love, faith, God and determination don’t pay bills and rent, honey.

I don’t think people here need to read this but just as a PSA:

DON’T HAVE KIDS IF YOU CAN’T FINANCIALLY SUPPORT THEM.

Promotions in this field (honestly anywhere)

Does it annoy anyone else that the only way you get promoted to manager and up is by doing these 3 things?

Being very good/skillful at your job, ass kissing and I just playing the game. (Emphasis on the last two as the first reason is obvious).

Idk, I personally have this feeling I’ll never get to manager status simply because I don’t do the last two things. Throughout my career and as a woman, I’ve had to defend myself a couple times from things I was getting blamed on due to other co-workers or lack of planning by management. I have been labeled combative/argumentative every time and the issues have never been solved. Corporate’s idea of a solved issue like this is to just suck it up and take the blame even though you didn’t do it. I’d always think being promoted to higher leadership positions would have been because you’ve stood up for yourself, others and against the obviously corrupt system. That’s what leadership ACTUALLY is. But, I guess not.

Do you think either party would agree to invoke the 25th amendment for any obviously incompetent president?

I honestly don’t think either party would actually invoke the amendment to benefit the country and us, the citizens. Refusing to invoke the 25th amendment is a clear example of both parties being on the same side of the coin or the two wings of the same bird.

I mean, look at Trump. Biden was a close second, but he wasn’t a deranged, dictator-like idiot. He was just old.

If Bethany ever did decide to have kids, how do you think Sarah would be as a grandma?

I know this is extremely unlikely with Bethany’s stoma and overall view on having kids, but I’m just curious.

Depending on how good of a mom Bethany would be, I think Sarah would be very loving, fun and laid back towards her grandkids.

Is there anything in accounting that deserves the same urgency as something like in a medical setting?

I think one of my issues in this field is that I do NOT take anything really seriously. I honestly don’t think urgency exists. We work in excel and spreadsheets, we’re not performing surgery. Please don’t get pissed at me if I’m offline at 7:00 and ignore your email/teams message. It can wait till the morning or Monday.

Does anyone else feel a bit optimistic for November?

I know Ohio voters are stupid and consistently fall for the lies of republicans, but we’re in a very strange and hostile political environment. Vivek seems to be unpopular, even amongst republicans and even some MAGA people. And Husted is a mixed bag.

While I know polls honestly don’t mean anything, I’m constantly seeing Acton neck and neck with Ramaswamy and Brown is above Husted.

Ohio, you’re keeping me optimistic. Don’t screw this up! (Knowing Ohio, we probably will).

What are kids’ holiday classroom parties like now?

I was born in 2001, so growing up in the 2000’s was a fun time. My early school years (elementary school) consisted of Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine’s Day parties. Parents would volunteer and I am very grateful that my mom volunteered a few times.

What are these parties like now? Have the “vibes” changed a bit or are they pretty much the same?
