Is this a healthy friendship or am I expecting too much?

I’m 20F and my best friend is 19F. She started college this year, while I started a year earlier.
During my first year, college was insanely hectic and I was going through a really difficult time mentally. Despite that, I always made an effort to maintain our friendship. There were times when she specifically needed me, and even when I was going through intensive therapy and was honestly struggling to function, I still made a point of reaching out to her and being there for her.
There was even a period where I was so physically unwell that I was basically crippled and struggling to function, but I still made sure to send her a message because I knew she needed me. I remember once literally going for a 4 AM run just so I could meet her. Whenever I had an opportunity to see her, I took it.
This week, however, I was having probably the worst week I’ve had in college and I desperately needed her. We live around 30 minutes away from each other, so I asked if we could hang out. She told me she already had a list of things she had planned.
What hurt even more was that when I asked when we’d be able to meet next, she said December would be the next time she could. The problem is that I’ll be out of the country by then, so realistically, I don’t even know when we’ll actually get to see each other again.
I completely understand that she has her own life and plans, and I don’t expect her to drop everything for me. But I can’t lie, it really hurt. Especially because I’ve made a point of showing up for her even when I was struggling myself. I think a part of me expected that when I genuinely needed her, she would make some effort to be there too.
Another thing that confuses me is how we handle venting. Whenever she vents to me about her family, I listen, give her advice and opinions, and try to stay within whatever boundaries she has. But when I vent about my family, she usually says she “isn’t into commenting.” I understand not wanting to overstep, but sometimes it leaves me feeling like I’m putting more emotional effort into the friendship than she is.
I don’t want to be the kind of friend who keeps score and thinks, “I did this for you, so you have to do this for me.” I know people show care differently. But at the same time, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want some reciprocity, especially when I’ve repeatedly made an effort to be there for her during some of my worst moments.
So am I expecting too much from her? Or is there actually an imbalance in this friendship?
I genuinely don’t know if I’m being unreasonable, or if I’m just hurt because this was the one week where I really needed my best friend.

🚩TW: struggling with an eating disorder

I’m not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I’ve been struggling with my body for the past nine years.
When I was around 12 or 13, I starved myself and exercised excessively because I wanted to be skinny. I lost a significant amount of weight, and my period stopped for several months. Since then, I’ve been stuck in a cycle of gaining and losing weight.
Recently, I’ve gained quite a bit of weight, and now I constantly feel the urge to eat. It feels like I can’t control my hunger, no matter how hard I try.
Other than seeing a doctor or getting treatment for a possible eating disorder, is there anything that can help curb my hunger or make it feel more manageable?

What should i do?

So I was dating a guy from my college for almost 6 months, turns out he had a girlfriend of three years 😃I broke it off with him , the minute I knew.
I was severely depressed and this triggered my auto immune so bad.He came back trying get my back but I turned down Within two weeks he is with someone new. And honestly I didn’t mind it as long as he kept his mouth shut about us dating. But nope.. he had to tell anyone and everyone him i was crazy over him and he never dated me. He is hot and I’m ugly and That’s not just it, but his friends are now giving me weird looks and bullying me around making fun of this. I’m depressed as hell and I’ve have no friend left. I regret this man, as much I feel ugly about being petty i wanna give him back. I’m depressed, ashamed
Also my own friends and his friend covered him that fact he had a girlfriend and hide it from me
Edit: idk if mods will allow this but I’d love to expose his ass here as picture. His original girlfriend doesn’t know shit about this and I’d like this to be warning for the creeps and cheaters out there.

Relative says I should work corporate for 2 years before starting a business. Does that actually make sense?

I’m a 20F studying for my bachelor’s in business and I’ve always wanted to start a small tea shop. The idea is to eventually scale it into a bigger cafe and maybe something much larger if things go well.

I told one of my closest relatives about this and they basically told me I should finish my degree, work a corporate job for 2 years and then start a business. Apparently some guy they know who runs a business advised them this.

I’m confused though. How exactly does working corporate automatically teach you how to run a business? I get that you can learn professionalism, systems and maybe management, but isn’t running your own business a completely different thing?

For context, I’d say I have basic to average business knowledge right now. I’m also planning to work with one of my professors in his business to get hands-on experience and learn more about operations, customers, finances etc.

My thinking is: if I already know I want to start something, wouldn’t it make more sense to start small, learn as I go and maybe fail small instead of waiting years?

At the same time, I don’t want to be naive and ignore good advice if there’s something I’m missing here.

How do deal with professor you hate in college?

I have this professor in college and I have to sit through 4+ hours with him every day and he genuinely pisses me off.

One time during a midterm I started sneezing like crazy and my nose was literally running. I had no tissues on me so I politely asked if I could grab one from my bag or if he had one I could use. He said no. Flat out. The gross part is he could literally see my nose dripping and I was sitting there awkwardly wiping it with my sleeve/tissue scraps trying not to make a mess. It was honestly embarrassing. Mind you this is the same kind of exam where other teachers let people go to the restroom and I have literally seen people sneak phones. But apparently me trying not to sit there with snot dripping was too much.

Another time my college had a program and one of our family friends was invited as a guest/jury. I was just privately asking her if she could stay a bit longer and he randomly inserted himself into the conversation and in my local language said it was his issue and not mine. Like okay?? It was a private convo

There have been a bunch of other small moments where he’s just rude for no reason and I genuinely dread sitting through his classes now.

How do y’all deal with professors like this without crashing out or making college worse for yourself?

Pursuing Passion While Planning for Early Retirement

I’m a first-year college student, I decided to follow my passion and got an internship at an amazing company where I work as a content creator and writer.

Now that’s led me to wonder: how can I retire early while doing a job I love?

I’m also passionate about acting and film, but I haven’t really had the chance to try it because I’m too scared to put myself out there.

For the people out here: how do you save for retirement and build your income while pursuing something you’re passionate about?

Is there any saving tips? Expenses I should avoid.

I (20F) am a university student in Asia, and college here is extremely competitive. Rankings matter a lot, and a gold medal can genuinely change your future.

I’m in a group of three, me, “Lena,” and “Maya.” I come from a well-off family, Lena is middle-class, and Maya comes from a poor background. She’s on a full scholarship and has worked for everything she has. She’s also very shy and non-confrontational, the kind of person who just takes things and moves on.

About a month before graduation, Maya was suddenly moved to another dorm room. That’s where “Aria” comes in.

Aria is also Asian but studied in the US before coming here, so she doesn’t speak our native language and only communicates in English. She used to be a rank holder, and at one point, she and Maya were tied for the gold medal.

Instead of competing fairly, she went low.

She spread rumours that Maya was stealing from her and cheating on her boyfriend . She hid her notes right before exams. She would sneak people into the room and interrupt her while studying. She picked fights just to throw her off. And she knew exactly how important this was. She would lock the common bathroom and take the keys with her. Messed with her common laundry, made up rumours saying Maya forced to watch inappropriate things. She still had a real shot at the gold medal, but instead she focused on dragging someone else down.

This wasn’t even new behavior. Her previous roommates had warned that she does things that stope low than this that could get someone incriminated.

Maya didn’t fight back. She was honestly just meh about it. She didn’t want drama right before finals and just kept pushing through, even though she was clearly suffering from all of this and it was very much evident.

Lena, on the other hand, didn’t support me at all. She kept making excuses for Aria and told me not to get involved. It felt like she wasn’t even rooting for us. It felt weird for a friend of three years to ask us to put it behind.

I didn’t listen.

At graduation, Aria had to give a speech. It was written in our native language and translated into English for her. I had access to that process, and I intentionally messed with the translation. I used wording that had double meanings, so while it sounded fine on the surface, it came across wrong to people who understood the original intent and native language.

On stage, she was confident. But as the speech went on, the tone felt off, and later when she actually understood what was said, it became embarrassing for her.

She crashed out immediately, the impact hit her with people mocking her and the staffs being disappointed.

Maya got the gold medal.

Now Lena is upset with me and barely talking to me. She thinks I went too far.

I know what I did wasn’t clean. But after everything Aria did, it didn’t feel unfair in the moment.

We’ve been friends for 3 years and I’ve never been this close to anyone, so it hurts that Maya was clearly being hurt and never once shut me down, Lena is the one shutting me out now.

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone could suggest some books. I’ve been feeling depressed lately, and usually what helps pull me out is a book that speaks to my soul.

The last time I read The Dead of Ivan Ilyich and The Bell Jar (corny for some), but both of those books had lost characters, and I found them weirdly comforting.

I would love it if you could suggest some books that have characters with similar storylines, or characters I might find comforting. Something that could soothe my mind a little. I also like characters that are complex.
