Amitriptyline helped with GERD induced shortness of breath, but now I'm constipated

Basically what the title says. I've always had slow intestinal transit, but now it's worse. Luckily I don't feel any pain or bloating.

I have mixed LPR/GERD symptoms, but globus and shortness of breath were the worst for me. Omeprazole 40mg helped during my first flare but did nothing on the second. Finally saw a GI. They put me on Pantoprazole 40mg. After 30 days, SOB + globus both subsided, but did not disappear completely. During the appointment I mentioned a possible hypersensitivity and they agreed to let me give Amitriptyline a try in case I wasn't feeling 100% better within a month.

I started taking it and felt better within a week. SOB/globus are 90% gone.

However... Constipation lol. I've tried psyllium, but it's been 3 days and it hasn't worked. I don't want to take any more pure fiber and possibly overload (?) my colon. Are laxatives my only option? My stomach is really sensitive.

Has anyone been on a similar boat? I was so happy with my progress because this SOB is unbearable, but now I'm worried :( idk when I'm seeing a doctor again

Is not eating at night really a must follow rule for people with GERD?

I have dinner at 7pm. After that I only drink water and sometimes tea. I go to sleep around 10pm - 12am.

I usually wake up at 7:30, take my Pantoprazole and wait until 8:00 to get up and eat. However, lately I have been waking up with hunger pains and a really sensitive burning stomach. I'm starting to think this long of an interval isn't ideal for me.

A lot of the advice here recommends not eating at night. I understand this works for a lot of people, but has anyone experienced the opposite (not eating at night worsening symptoms)? I'm going to try a snack 2 hours before bed tonight to see if it helps, I have never had any issues like waking up with reflux at night, I don't know why I blindly followed this rule since GERD is so different for everyone.

I'd like to add that this likely isn't the false hunger symptom as well, I'm familiar with that. I slowly start feeling better after I eat in the morning, it really feels like the consequences of an empty stomach.

Does anyone have experience with situations like this?

Period making GERD worse

This is probably TMI so I'm sorry in advance lol I was wondering if anyone could relate.

I got my diagnosis this year, but my stomach has always been very sensitive during my periods. I feel like I'm healing quite well only for my PMS to begin and then I'm in hell: diarrhea, gas, burning... I don't know what to do 😭

During these period induced flares (?) it's like all meds stop working... I was having good progress with two weeks on Pantoprazole 40mg, it reduced my shortness of breath which was my most prominent symptom, but now I'm PMS 2/3 days away from my period and it's like I'm back to square one. Gaviscon was a lifesaver and it doesn't make a difference now.

My friend has become so boring since she started dating a man

The reason why I chose this sub to post this is because I'm sure many of you have also dealt with friends who are male centered. This is not for hating on men or whatever.

All of my friends are bi, but I'd say only two of them are not male centered. One of them used to be one of my favorite people to talk to, but after 1-2 years into her first serious relationship she changed so much.

Her sense of humor is unrecognizable. It's just so painfully normal now. The memes she shares are baffling to me because I know the kind of stuff she used to like and now she feels like every (boring) straight person I know. I saw a dumb AI generated meme in my timeline yesterday and was like ??? who in my circle even likes AI slop. I was shocked to see she was the one who shared it. Her boyfriend is a heavy AI user and I guess her opinion on that changed, because she used to be against it like I am.

Last time we went out they mentioned a streamer from our country that's famously "straight people content" and usually made fun of by LGBTQ+ folks, I said something about the streamer being unfunny and realized I made things awkward because now she's into it??

Her boyfriend is very sweet, I have nothing against him, but it feels like she's just HIM now. Her interests, the places she goes to. And I guess that's kind of natural for a couple, but I really feel like I'm mourning the loss of what she once was lol. She has such a coworker vibe now, as if she's someone I have to be careful around because idk what's going on in straight people culture.

Has anyone gone through something similar? I just wanted to vent lol I don't plan on bringing this up with her because it's not an issue for her, she's happy. I don't think they have an unhealthy relationship either, she's just out of touch with LGBTQ+ culture now and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I really want to give Trazodone a shot

I'm currently on a very low benzo dose and I want to get off as soon as I can. Yes, my psychiatrist is very irresponsible.

I tried Tradozone for one night and it immediately blocked my nose. For the next day my blood pressure was low and I felt sort of weak, nose still blocked.

I did eventually sleep that night after I got somehow used to the discomfort on my nose so I guess it worked...

I wanted to know if anyone experienced these side effects and managed to pull through. In my experience with antidepressants, it's common for them to take a week or so to adapt to my body, but low blood pressure is a bit too much isn't it? lol

I also read someone say they were on Tradozone for a while and the blocked nose side effect never really went away.

Any success stories on this med?

Devo me atentar a mais alguma coisa? Desculpem se parecer bobagem, tenho muito trauma com isso.

My whole family is sick. Money is tight and everything is horrible. Please pray for us

I'm 25F, unemployed. Had a physical and mental burnout on my last job (which was basically slavery) and ended my last shift at the ER. Since then I've been dealing with a lot of health issues including anemia, unmedicated depression/anxiety and what seems to be GERD (the worst symptom is the shortness of breath associated with my flares, started PPIs this week and hopefully it gets better. I'm currently the most "functioning" person but it's so hard to do things when you're struggling to breathe).

My mom has fibromyalgia and is currently in a lot of pain, we don't know what's causing it, I'm writing this while waiting to go to another hospital... She's had kidney problems before so it's possible that it came back. I'm really struggling seeing her in so much pain and also having to deal with our shitty healthcare system

My brother is an alcoholic who only cares about his addiction and his only job is to make things worse. I won't even go into details, it's not worth it.

And finally my aunt who's cancer might have come back. Her case is complicated and it's being investigated. She can't walk anymore. She lives next door and I hear her cry from pain everyday and it breaks my heart. My mom was the one helping her out the most since her son and boyfriend are both busy with work (they take over on the weekends) to make ends meet, but she's been unable to for the past few days...

I don't even have the energy to pray anymore, I break down in the middle of it and I just start begging incoherently. Please do it on my behalf for all these people. I'll send my thoughts towards you all too, every amount of good energy that I have. Wish you all the best

I wish my friends were more thoughtful about me being unemployed and sick

I've been dealing with a series of health issues since the end of January. It hasn't even been that long, but I know now how chronically ill people feel. People are constantly asking me if I've gotten better, but each question is more impatient than the one that came before until they simply disappear. They get tired of hearing that I'm not.

I'm unemployed as well. Part of the reason why I've gotten sick in the first place was my last job, which was basically a slave job I was paying to work at because I needed the experience. I got physically and mentally burned out. The only good thing that came out of this job was being able to save for a whole year (thanks to my mom's support) and go on a 7 day trip with my friends in December. Even then I mentioned that my job was so consuming I thought about it every single day of the trip... I ended my last shift at the ER, dehydrated, which led to a series of issues.

I'm job hunting right now even though I'm not feeling well. I have to. My mom is paying for my medical expenses and the roof over my head and it feels awful. I'm not jealous of my friends, but it does feel a little bit shitty having to listen to them talk about "impulse purchases" or things they bought because it was silly when I'm struggling to get blood tests done. One of them even said they'd help me financially and I'd NEVER accept money from anyone, but my situation is so dire that I was like okay, but then they never mentioned it again. I thought that maybe they realized they were tight on money (I have also offered to help on impulse before), only for them to show up in a few days to ask me if I wanted to watch them unboxing Dior makeup. God. This would be easier if it was simply jealousy.

A situação tá feia :( estou me vendo sem alternativas

I can't figure out the cause for my anemia

Got an endoscopy due to GERD symptoms (actually LPR symptoms, I don't have most of the classic GERD stuff) and it came back almost clear with little inflammation, nothing that would indicate difficulty absorbing iron.

Tested negative for H. Pylori.

I eat well. Like beans at least 3 times a week and red meat often. It's unlikely that I'll go a day without veggies. I have access to a lot of fresh food and I'm very used to it.

I also believe my periods doesn't seem to be the issue. It's always been the same: on the first day, it's a bit heavy, but not alarming. 3 pads are enough for me. The other two days I still bleed, but significantly less. 4th day onwards there's basically nothing left.

The only thing left to properly investigate is SIBO, but I have none of the classic symptoms. If you have any experience regarding SIBO I'd love to hear it!

Could this just be a thing that... happened? I was never diagnosed with anemia before and I haven't gone extremely long periods of time without having blood tests done. I'm currently supplementing, but I'm having trouble wrapping my head around this because I can't figure out what caused it on the first place.

I don't have any symptoms anymore besides the shortness of breath

I'm getting an endoscopy on the 1st and I'm already coming to terms with the fact that they may not find anything. I have no other symptom. I'm seeing an ENT soon too.

Could this be something else that isn't GERD/LPR? If I went by the symptom alone I'd never think it's related to acid reflux, I only do because this all started with gastrointestinal symptoms and they all went away, only the SOB persisted. I know other people go through much worse, but this has been ruining my life.

I've been keeping a food journal for almost a month and I haven't found any potential triggers. Alginate helps. It seems to get worse during a specific period of the day (right now it's daytime, but during a previous flare it was nighttime).

Shortness of breath only during the day? Confusing symptoms

These symptoms are so confusing to me. When this all started back in February the SOB would begin around nighttime and go away during the day. I was unable to sleep because of it.

I was free of it for a while (Omeprazole helped) but now it's back. I feel it mainly when I'm trying to take naps or just rest my head. I feel my heart start beating faster too but I think it's only a sensation because I've measured it and it was fine. Going to sleep is now my most peaceful time of the day because I never experience SOB then.

Doesn't get worse with physical effort (though I don't push my luck. If I feel breathless from exercising I do diaphragmatic breathing to calm it down). When I'm distracted it definitely gets better but it's almost impossible to find something that distracts me when SOB is happening. I do think anxiety plays a part but I've experienced enough GERD symptoms to believe it's at fault too

has anyone's reflux been triggered after a strong vomit episode?

No need to read this, just answer the question in the title! Thank you.

Hi guys, I'm 25F looking for some guidance or similar stories.

I've always had some LPR symptoms such as globus, cough, scratchy throat and weak voice. These usually appeared after a clear trigger however. For example, I'd start coughing after drinking cappuccino for two days straight (milk is apparently one of my triggers, but I seem to be fine with cheese and other stuff with lactose. Just pure milk gives me stomach cramps and in this particular episode, coughing), globus after a few days of eating badly in a row, etc. My mom also suffers from reflux so she'd give me Omeprazole. I'd take it for ~14 days and it made me feel better. These were the good days I wish I could go back to lol

Earlier this year in February I ended up in the ER due to dehydration. I worked a highly stressful job that simply did not me give me much time to drink a proper amount of water. One day at the end of my shift I was starving and noticed I was probably dehydrated too (had a headache I knew too well thanks to this job) so I began drinking a few cups of water every 30min as this seemed to do the trick for the headaches previously. I had dinner then and the other dehydration symptoms began: confusion, dizziness, trouble speaking. I took a nap for about 1 hour and woke up to vomit. Obviously my stomach barely had any time to digest it so a lot of it was still solid. My throat felt raw after. I went to the ER and got taken care of.

For the next few days I started having a burning sensation at the back of my throat (I don't have this symptom anymore) and stomach. Out of nowhere a horrible shortness of breath began. I spent a week in desperation. I couldn't get a proper breath in. I quit my job during this period. I was unable to sleep because of my breathing. Putting a small weight on my chest or hugging myself (?) made it slightly better. At this time I started reading about esophagus damage and realized this could be it so I was hoping it'd get better by the next day... Eventually I couldn't take it anymore and went to the ER. They told me I didn't have anything obstructing my breathing. I came back home and started taking 40mg of Omeprazole on my own. After 2 weeks, the shortness of breath got better. I stayed on Omeprazole, hoping I'd get the chance to see a specialist soon (I still haven't, sadly).

Since then I've had about two other flares that also took almost a month to get better. They had varying symptoms but the worst in both of them was the shortness of breath. I'm currently coming out of one (or so I hope...), it's been two days being able to breathe properly but there's still some discomfort that I think is from anxiety (this symptom is taking a toll on my mental health).

I saw a GP and stopped Omeprazole because I'm scheduled for an endoscopy (checking for H. Pylori as well). They also asked for a spirometry (she mentioned a possible bronchial hyperreactivity). Thankfully I haven't had rebound effects from stopping, it's been 5 days. I'm going to have to spend every little penny I have for paying for my exams and to see a specialist, but I'm willing to do anything to get rid of this symptom.

anyone else also experience a "sequence" of symptoms?

My journey began in February. This is my third flare this year and I'm starting to see a pattern. It starts with:

  1. My stomach burning. Lasts for about a day.

  1. Mucus on my throat. Just the feeling of it, I can't actually swallow/spit anything out. During one of these three flares, I had a sore throat as well and my voice was weak.

  1. Severe air hunger. This is the worst symptom for me and also the one that seems to last the longest. It only goes away after two weeks.

  1. Mucus on my throat again when the air hunger calms down and then I'm good.

I'm currently at number four of the sequence I just described. I hope it goes as the other two flares did and there's no air hunger anymore after this. It's making me genuinely insane.

Does anyone have similar experiences to share?

Being physically sick and anhedonic

I rememeber when I was a kid and being sick, even though it brought me discomfort, was usually tolerable because I could stay home and watch cartoons/play on the computer. I could forget about my physical state by distracting myself with things I cared about.

I keep thinking about this because right now I'm dealing with a nightmarish condition, have been for about 6 months, and I can't distract myself with fun things because I don't like anything. Nothing catches my attention. I just lay down suffering, watching the hours pass. It's so much wasted time. I see people with the same condition as me still being able to live normally because they have things to focus on, hobbies, etc. I was anhedonic before this and I can't even hope to get into anything in my current state. Can anyone relate?
