Has anyone noticed many Chinese men dating Caucasians in North America?

Which is interesting

I am Chinese American and a lot of Chinese or Asians from the US, men or women, have commonly been dating Whites and Latinos in my state of California in the past decade or so. However recently many Chinese born in china have been seen with white women, in which I haven’t noticed this five years ago.

Is this because of china becoming a superpower more recently and Asian men being portrayed as handsome in the media because of K-pop?

Source: See it often in San Francisco which is near me, and in Los Angeles too. Not sure about in other bigger states like Texas or New York but it wouldn’t surprise me either.

San Francisco’s Palestinian community

Not anything political. Not about pro Israel or pro Palestine here on my end, but is it true SF has a big Palestinian community? I worked for Daniel Lurie for a while and he said there’s a big community in the Clarendon Heights area or the area around Mt. Sutro if I am not mistaken. I do recall meeting a few people who told me they’re Palestinian or have descent from there. One resident told me both Galileo and Lowell High have many Palestinian and Arab students.

I find it interesting as I don’t know many big cities with such a community. I met one Palestinian American kid in Rohnert Park near Santa Rosa while working at a Safeway there eons ago. There were a few Arab kids in my HS but afaik they were Jordanian I believe.

I do know San Mateo has a lot of Palestinians. Also I lived in Westlake in Daly City for a while and there were heaps of Palestinians. My neighborhood had more Palestinians than Filipinos, and I say that as a Filipino in a city known for its community of Filipinos but I seldom met them tbh lol. More Palestinians, Yemenis, Hispanics or Ukrainians if anything.

Big history geek and it still is interesting to have roots in the holy land.

Also, knafeh slaps. 👌🏼

Does Portland have any Armenian community or cafes/restaurants?

Not Armenian, but I partially grew up in the Los Angeles area. Probably half of my classmates and friends were Armenian or Armenian-Iranian. I may move to the Portland or Eugene areas, and I miss the Armenian vibe of my childhood. While I mostly lived in Northern CA with less Armenians they are still very much active here.

I heard from an Armenian friend who lived in PDX saying "there's almost no Armenians in Portland" but his living there was two decades ago.

Is that true and is there any population or at least events for someone who likes the music and food?

The same Armenian friend who lived in Portland even said when he said he was Armenian to classmates/Portland residents they'd respond with "I'm sorry, where?" Most didn't know or ever even heard of it 20 years ago lol..

Does anybody remember the big gang violence wave in Bay Area schools in NorCal in the late 00s?

And oozing a bit into the early 10s? I was a teen in HS then so that was naturally my sample of the crazy shit that happened.

At Sala Burton (sp?) High School in S.F., two kids were shot dead a block away or in front of the school within a 5-year timespan or even shorter.

There were a ton of stabbings and shootings not so much in, but very close-by the campuses in Santa Rosa; one shooter was Asian who did a gang-related attack wounding two Surenos outside a continuation high school and the stabbers were white guys who beefed with a guy at a skatepark near Piner High. I only remembered how rare it was for people of those races to do straight-up crazy gang or psycho shit in broad daylight in front of many kids.

I vaguely remember a kid shot dead outside a private school in Oakland.

I also remember a big brawl that involved mainly Russian/white kids in Sacramento sometime in the late 00s. Does anyone remember this? A few kids were beaten with bats and rocks were thrown.

My heart goes out to the victims and these attackers are hopefully retired from that mentality now, but it was such an andrelaine rush in a terrible way for many teens hearing about this stuff.

Best Norcal towns to experience Native american culture?

Here are my candidates. Wherever you feel has a sizeable community of Native Americans regardless of tribe or tribal inter-relations, events and pow-wows related to the culture:

Covelo, CA

Willits, CA

Ukiah, CA

Santa Rosa, CA in pockets

Fruitvale, Oakland in pockets

Antioch, CA in pockets

What happened by the Lewelling Elementary School area?

A block away from the school, and not far from New Life Church (a block or two at most), a big rig was parked in the middle of the crosswalk, sandwiched between two rows of houses; I see tons of caution tape everywhere but no signs of glass broken or accident

Just out of sheer curiosity, what happened?

How bad were the Holmies (fans of James Holmes)?

Yes, unfortunately, there was such a crowd, who favored the man who shot up the theater in Colorado in 2012, taking 13 beautiful souls.

Were they ever bad IRL, like at court dates and during the trial? A woman got arrested for disrupting a trial date saying she was JH's mom, and she seemed very mentally ill. Maybe not a Holmie per se, but was kind of one of the more mentally-unwell people who may tag along that herd, but not in an organized sense.

I also heard some harassed victims' relatives, sadly.

What is your community's Chinese community like?

America has a very large Chinese community. Not as large as the Mexican community, for instance, for example of another large immigrant group, but still prevalent.

We all know Chinese people somewhere. Even rural Gas City, Indiana, for instance, has a few Chinese families who run various businesses. Canada has many too.

As someone born in the San Francisco area, moved to Hong Kong as a teen and now back in US, what is your Chinese community like? Do they own a snazzy restaurant or are the town's dentist? Are they speaking more in Mandarin or Cantonese?

Why do San Francisco and LA have big Armenian communities?

Which there is nothing wrong with, just wondering why. Beautiful communities in both regions and I would love to visit Armenia, as someone who is not of Armenian descent.

Does San Leandro have a big Portuguese community still?

I heard there's a big Azorean community still, and I know a guy whose half-Mexican half-Madeiran who lives in the Haas Avenue area; he is from Socal but is pretty vocal about his Portuguese roots and embraces the Portuguese community of the east bay.

Are you mildly disappointed Trey Parker is a theist? Even said the big bang theory is dumb?

Trey Parker - Wikipedia

Basically... out of all the ridiculous religion stories which are greatly, wonderfully ridiculous—the silliest one I've ever heard is, 'Yeah... there's this big giant universe and it's expanding, it's all gonna collapse on itself and we're all just here just 'cause... just 'cause'. That, to me, is the most ridiculous explanation ever.^([140])

While he is not Christian/Catholic, although may be sometimes who dips a toe in it now, he is a theist apparently.

Some find it ironic as he and Matt's stuff are well... so opposite of anything most Christians would approve of, although many do still watch it. But it's obviously non-Christian in sentimental value.

Do people usually talk to people from high school in their mid-20s to 30s or not really?

Or even right after high school? I did with a few, but the keyword is few, and even then, not too often. Not even during winters when I visit family in my hometown, but I did recently reconnect with a few on FB messenger, and I'm 30 something. Maybe possible plans to meet, but it's very unknown at this point.

BONUS: Is it weird if someone doesn't connect with their high school friends at ALL, after high school? Maybe they met with a friend a few times at ages 18-20 and they then moved onto other things, and maybe they'll see someone, maybe the same person they buddied with briefly after school, from HS when they're 40? lol

How is living in rural Boonville, California?

I lived in Ukiah for a year but only drove by Boonville once or twice to stop at at the brewery for a burger, not even a beer, as a luncheon en route to Point Arena an hour west. Basically, all I know about it is that it is a very hot in the summer, wet in the winter and fall and a good chunk of spring, and it even has its own dialect, called Boontling.

The town is not particularly diverse, but interestingly enough one of the most famous people to have grown up in Boonville is a Samoan-descent NFL player for the Colts, Martin Tevaseu, who was born in Oakland, possibly the most polar environment to Boonville..

It also has a cute and allegedly fun county fair for the county it is in, Mendocino. Never been.

Lots of weed and rednecks I have heard as well.

How is it really like living in Hollywood, Los Angeles? Esp. if you're not in the film/TV or music industry?

I heard Hollywood is a really mixed bag. From people I know who have spent more than a few weeks in total of time there, have lived there, or are even from there: apparently it is a mix of mostly lesser-known celebrities or those who work in the movie industry but your avg Joe. wouldn't know who they are unless they're connected to the film or TV biz, aspiring actors or musicians, upper-middle class families and also a lot of working class families, mostly Hispanic, Armenian, and Filipino.

But what I find more interested is, what is it really like to live there if you have nothing to do with movies, music, and not only that, but probably kinda don't fit in with that crowd at all and are probably a guy or gal who likes fishing, mountain biking, shopping at Ross, or just don't like the material vibe that may sometimes come with Hollywood.

I know the majority of Hollywood aren't famous or ultra-rich people, but for either sides of the coin, what is it really like to live there? I have a friend in LA, but he's like 10 miles from Hollywood and doesn't necessarily go there a ton nor ever worked there to my knowledge.

Fun fact: there was a Food 4 Less in Hollywood up until 2020.

What was High Tech Burrito like back then, in your words and memories?

Ye brought goode memories to us youth of Sonoma County, but there are no HTBs in our hindsight of the present-year.

Ye are still forebearing the lush hills of southern Marin County and the Walnut Creek area, Alamo to be precise, and the Danville area, near-by Livermore, but ye be no more in the Saint Rose.

High Tech Burrito, we hardly knew ye.

That spinach wrap brought us goode to our hearts and souls.

Is Bonanza a chill town?

Yes, I know it's stupidly rural to say it bluntly, but it and the valley it's in, looks pretty in pics. I have never been there although I've been to the Roseburg area, moreso.

I know a lot of it is marijuana farming, but also hops for beer.

Is it very rural? If I were to move there, would it be awkward if you are say, of color? I don't particularly care about a community sharing my share ethnic origins, although I'd be cool with it existing, just don't need to care about that. Is it good if you're into just casual fishing, and not a hunter? Altho, I'd probably try it.

Maybe in a few years I'd move to that general area, and the name just slaps lol.

The general Bonanza-Klamath Falls area is cool with me from the pics, and just want more insight.
