Thermal phone recommendations? Real use experiences?

I'm looking for something that can be used for looking at engines, house windows, hiking, animals in the woods and maybe even ghosts. Something decent for multiple uses.

I've had a couple of the dongles but they rather suck. They feel floppy and make the phone very awkward to hold.

Is anyone else absolutely tired of seeing the constant "GoPro is dying" and "omg don't buy GoPro they're failing" posts?

Each time I come to this sub I see a new post daily about the demise of GoPro. Same few accounts usually, same repeated junk ad nauseum.

It's always the same reasons, similar to these:

- stock prices are down. Sky is falling!

- they've only sold X number of cameras!

- no hero 14? It's because they're failing!

Like dear God, if you think it's failing to somewhere else to post and leave this sub so the people who actually like the products being made don't have to listen to the low bandwidth repeated malarkey that the world is ending.

And it's constantly the exact same posters either creating their own posts or jumping into someone else's to stand on the corner with their signs out preaching the end of the GoPro world. Next time you see one of those posts click on the user's profile and you'll see.

Every new iteration of GoPro is always the last. They're always going to claim bankruptcy. Their technology is always behind DJI or Insta360. It's overpriced. They die or overheat or don't make you breakfast.

Just stop. If you think they are going to croak then just leave, find one if the DJI or Insta360 subs and live there. At least you can complain about how DJI isn't allowed in the USA, that fruit is low hanging enough for you so it should be easy.

Did you know you can directly connect your Mac to your PC through lightning ports+cables and edit video from your PC on the Mac? If you already have both it is a no-brainer, you can skip a server, and it is insanely fast.

I meant to say thunderbolt, not lightning!

I've owned several different Mac products over the years and before I purchase my Mac Mini I wanted to see if there is a way I could directly connect my MacBook Pro to my computer to transfer files.

Most of what I could find discuss networking and expensive servers which are quite costly and the pain in the ass to set up for the average user. In my searching I saw a references to using Thunderbolt ports and a fast lightning cable to connect to a PC for direct transfers. I have about 40 TB of hard drives in my PC and I never want to have to remove them.

My current PC is an Intel Core 7 Ultra build on a z890 motherboard which happens to have a couple of tbolt ports. I thought what the heck, let's plug it in and get into the software to see what happens.

And it works. There's a little bit of setting up that has to happen, extremely minor, but when it is connected it's like you were working directly off that hard drive. It is insanely fast and insanely simple, and moving ahead into the future I'm going to be using my editing/gaming PC also as my video file server when I edit on Mac.

TL;DR : direct connecting your home computer to your Mac through the Tbolt ports if available allows you to use your PC as a host server for video files. It is extremely fast.

edit : accidentally called Thunderbolt the old protocol Lightning. Thank you for pointing it out u/vinodmoodley

Years ago an old friend of my father's show me his grow room when I was a kid. He had a strain there that I got a bud off of later in life and it was probably the most amazing high I've ever had. One problem though..

He told me the name of the strain was Snurp Snugglins. I have not been able to find this anywhere.

It was a leafy purple fat bud with some yellow in it and it looked like red. If memory still holds out there is also black in it and it had a reasonable amount of crystals.

I've been looking for it for years but I haven't been able to find it. I assume that it's an old school indica, the flavor was out of this world. It had a sweet almost sugar taste with just a hint of vanilla and citrus. The smoke wasn't light but it wasn't cloying either.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this? I'm starting to think that it may have been a strain that he created, I didn't get the chance to ask because after moving out of my dad's house I joined the military and moved away.

It was a pretty decent high, and it wasn't the best I've ever had but it was pretty damn good and The taste and aroma was pretty legitimate. But I have failed to find the damn stuff. I would simply love to grow it, I've been experimenting hydroponics and nets and it would be great to see how that would help an old strain.

[help] Ellesmere UI : How do I move the "You Received" window?

I can not find the option for the life of me. Every time I pick something up like the Mislaid Curiosity for example a window appears on the lower half of my screen telling me all about it and blocking my buttons!

Does anyone know how I fix this? It's absolutely making me go insane.

Edit : It's the loot window for chests and such that show the big prizes. I can not find it in the addon or Edit Mode...

Edit2 : I found it! It's hidden under something a bit convoluted that used to be in Edit Mode : Quality of Life - Shifter - Move Loot Windows in Unlock Mode.

Ram 1500 Classic 5.7L : What's your preferred transmission oil pan replacement?

I'll be swapping out my transmission fluid and filter and was wondering what people are using for their replacement transmission oil pan.

I'm in Canada so our options are kind of limited but Rock Auto has some nice choices.

I'm just wondering if there's a consensus on which pan is the better version for the Classic 8-speed automatic (ZF 8HP70)

Op Persistence, also known as the recovery of Swissair Flight 111 : Should this be recognized as a Special Duty Operation / Area by the Canadian Forces and Veterans Affairs?

The anniversary is coming up, and there is a contingent of us who served during that time and did the recovery on the ground and in the water.

In 1998 on September 2nd Swissair flight 111 crashed into the ocean. It changed so many lives forever.

Many of us who were young, some teenagers, were told we were going to help people. We went and started the recovery efforts on the 3rd or 4th, picking up the wreckage, personal belongings and human remains. It was the 5th or 6th when we were told that it's believed no one had survived.

By this time we had done more than enough. We spent 2 weeks there before we were sent home. Some of us were more affected than others. Some of us still deal with it today, and some others who did it no longer are with us.

First off I wanted to know give a shout out to the men and women who were there with me.

Secondly I wanted to ask the question in the title : should this event in particular be recognized within Canada as a Special Duty Op / Area?

If it was recognized it would open up a slew of extra medical coverage options for those who were part of it. For those who aren't aware Veteran's Affairs supports 2 lines of medical coverage via Blue Cross (A Line and B Line). B Line opens up a significant amount of medical assistance via Blue Cross.

Finally, I defeated Nullaeus on ?? difficulty! It might not mean much to some, but it does me.

I've been playing since release and well, I have never done much of the top tier stuff. Raids I mostly avoid, I don't do Keys unless I feel really up to it and for the most part I steer clear of the faster 'twitch' style games and gameplay.

I'm nearing 50, medically retired vet and have pretty damaged hands. I've lost feeling and mobility in them, have smashed and crushed just about every finger and the good old Type2 Diabeetus doesn't help me.

I've tried doing the previous xpac bosses and they were a big nope, then Midnight appeared and Nullaeus along with it. I made probably 50-60 attempts over time on ?? to kill him but he got me every time with the dumb interruptible insta-kill spell. Not long ago I was able to down him on ? and that got my hopes up.

This morning I jumped onto my Paladin and tried, 7-8 times with no success. I thought the shield bonks would do it but nope. Got frustrated and hopped over to my ilvl 272 DK and really, really put in the effort. Beforehand I massaged and flexed the old fingies and concentrated hard on the fight.

So this was a big accomplishment for me.

Maybe not for others, but for me? Hell yeah it was! And JUST before Season 2 is supposed to drop in a week or a few weeks (not too clear on that).

Anyways, I'm going to pat myself on the back later, roll up a fat one and sit back and fly around in my new whip.

Thanks Nullaeus for the new ride, title and feeling of accomplishment!

What's are your e-bike trusted brands?

From the most upper crust brands only seen in high society to the lowest social media and spam whips what are the brands you have experienced which are generally a solid choice?

I'm kind of thinking of these when I make a purchase:

  • Durability
  • Dependability
  • Quality
  • Expectations vs Reality
  • Customer service

So what's your trusted brands?

Jasion: I've seen them A lot over social media and advertising. Are they a legitimate e-bike company?

I'm checking out Amazon here in Canada and these guys popped up. I've seen them in a few other places and I have a few offerings that I kind of like.

Yes I understand that the moped style e-bikes, or the dirt bike style isn't liked by some but I do like their styling of their bikes.

Has anyone here bought one of their e-bikes? What was your experience with their brand?

Ram 1500 Classic Warlock (Hemi, 8speed) : what transmission oil pan are you using? In Canada so options are a bit less

I'm going to be changing out my transmission oil and I'm just wondering what people have been using for replacement pans.

There's a bunch of options online but I've seen some of them don't fit properly.

Also is there an alternative transmission fluid to use, or is the dealer version the recommended version?

▲ 10 r/Rogers

I am at my wits f*cking end : I started my account with Rogers while serving in the military which gave me a discount. Now that I am not service I can not make a plan change anywhere but through the chat or over the phone.

I want to leave Rogers because of how utterly frustrating this has been, but their service is the best in my area.

I served for 18 years and opened my Rogers account in about 2016 or so. I did it through my 'corporate' email and received a plan and pricing discount and had it for years. About every 2 years or so they make you renew it which wasn't a problem.

Now that I am not serving (medically released in late 2023) I do not have that email. This is keeping me locked out of plan changes because I have to verify my account.

To be clear they offer the same discounts to veterans of the military, RCMP and first responders with the CFOne card, Veteran ID or whatnot.

But I can not get a hold of anything but AI in their fucking ridiculous trash shit 'Customer Service', and when I do they barely speak English and I can hear traffic, or farm noises or whatever else. And not 1 person can help me. Period. I've called probably 20 times now and NOT ONE can help. They want to pawn some shit off like a phone upgrade or they offer to change the plan but I want to do it myself.

Does anyone have any tips or ideas to help me? I've even called Red Wireless but their hands are tied when it comes to plan changes, they can only do phone upgrades + plan changes.

I'm looking for a e-bike similar to this but larger, in Canada.

I'm seeking an e-bike style like this, just larger to fit my size.

I'm a 6' 235 pound disabled veteran who has had multiple surgeries in my abdominal area and live in chronic pain in my crotch, down my leg and sometimes my back. This style bike with the sitting position and larger seat would accommodate my needs quite nicely. Sitting upright is where it's at, I can't ride my old mountain bike because I'm scrunched over the handle bars quite often.

Preferably I'd like the option of pedal or throttle if I choose. I plan on going down dirt roads, trails, hills and some winter use. I'll be carrying 20 pounds or so of camera gear on me as well. If you add clothing I think a bike that can handle a 250 pound weight load would be nice, I was 300 pounds 2 years ago and an still losing so that's about what I'm looking at.

So please dear E-Bike gurus, be kind to this old vet whose nearing a mid-life crisis and can't afford a sports car, and help me find my goal. I love on a military medical pension sooooo please keep that in mind. a $3000 whip is out of my range. I'm looking more at a budget option.

▲ 141 r/ROGAlly

SteamOS on the Original ROG Ally is a pretty solid performance bump and easy as dirt to install! Also here's how the install works.

I've seen a lot of people asking about SteamOS on the ROG Ally series, but not a lot of people want to install it.

Well, I'm here to tell you it's 100% worth it.

It was a simple install, if you don't care what's on your Ally right now just install it. There are a few small things you need to do but it's dirt simple and absolutely worth it.

  • Battery life? Much improved and standby isn't draining it
  • Performance? No micro stutters or sudden FPS drops
  • More Performance : I'm seeing a decent increase in FPS. On average approximately 5FPS, some games have bumped up 10FPS average. It's crazy
  • It has made the OG Ally much snappier, way less buggy, no random game closing to desktop or other Microsoft bugs and overhead
  • Simple to use, and it has Linux desktop if you need to install games from elsewhere
  • The SteamOS UI is so, so, so, so, so much better than the garbage ASUS made.
  • XBox Gaming mode is a complete joke when compared to SteamOS. Absolutely disgusting how 'Gaming Mode' does little to nothing at this point in time on Windows.
  • If you want Windows still you just install SteamOS, use GParted to resize and install for dual boot goodness (there are tutorials)

Here's what I did, and it was flawless :

Grab one of the following : microSD card, a USB-C memory stick or a USB dock/hub ( a simple one works fine as long as it has USB-C to plug into the Ally) and a memory stick.

I have multiple USB docks and hubs. Just about any will do.

Basically you go over to the SteamOS download page and grab it. I believe there are other versions for the ROG Ally but this is what worked for me. Use the Rufus installer to put it onto a memory stick.

Shut down your ROG Ally. Hit the power button then spam the Volume Down ( - ) to get into the BIOS. Find the Secure Boot option and disable it. Save and exit, then shut it down. Plug in your USB stick, dock, hub or whatever you picked. Hit power and spam Volume Down ( - ) again. Go into the BIOS, over to the Boot menu and pick your SteamOS install media in the menu, you'll see 2 partitions so pick the Partition 1.

It'll restart and go through the process.

Some people have gotten a black screen during the install. Tap your power button to pull it out of sleep, it's that simple. If it doesn't come out then the install was somehow corrupted but that's rare unless your install media is old and crappy.

Then just follow the prompts and wait. When you get it installed you can access Desktop Mode by going to SteamOS Power Down options and pick it. I'd do this and find Decky to install, it unlocks some great features like custom power options, etc. It appears as a plug icon in the SteamOS options.

What are the trusted brands for e-bikes? Not only in North America but also brands from China and others from overseas.

Also on the other end of that what are the most untrusted brands that I should stay away from?

I see a lot that would seemingly for my wants but when I check reviews they aren't so hot.

I'm in Canada, if they counts for anything.

Brand spanking new to e-bikes and I have some questions! I put this under bike builds as the flair soley because I don't mind getting a new one and to modifying it for how in want it

All right now that I've gotten the title out of the way let's get to my requirements and questions. I am partially disabled with chronic pain and some muscle separation in one of my leg and my old mountain bike just doesn't suit me the way it used to.

Essentially I'm looking for something that can ride on pavement but is more geared for dirt roads, paths, old train tracks, old walking trails and goat paths. That type of thing. I also want it to be reasonably water resistant, I may want to use it in the rain, on dirty muddy trails, and in the snow.

I live in Canada but I'm not worried in my area about the regulations and laws regarding these. I fully understand that there are several laws around e-bikes but I'm not worried about them.

  1. I am looking for an e-bike that I can use just the pedals, pedal assist, or just electric power to move whenever I choose. Do these exist?

  2. I am looking for a fat tire mountain bike type, with a reasonably large range. What would I expect as a 230 lb man riding one of these?

  3. If I carried a solar panel would it help charge a spare battery? In the same vein of battery recharging do these bikes use regenerative charging at all?

  4. Are accessories for these bikes universal or the most of the bike builders make accessories specific to their builds?

  5. I am quite used to maintenance on vehicles, and after near 20 years in the Air force and working on computers I am quite in depth with electronics. How hard are these bikes to maintain?

  6. Are brands from China seen as just as good as the ones we can buy here? I've actually been told by multiple people looking at their bikes that most of the brands we see here are just rebrands from China. I'm not sure what to say about this but having worked on vehicles and electronics I can save without it I believe this is true with some brands.

If you have any recommendations for somebody who would like to use their fat tire e-bike for about a 70 miles/100km worth of driving I would sincerely appreciate it. We have a significant amount of shoreline, old trails, access roads and everything else around me and I am pretty excited about the possible purchase of an e-bike.

And if you have any other stuff that I should know please do tell. Just please be kind with criticism.

LTT can we get some videos that actually resonate with the average consumer and nerd?

It's been a long time since we've seen much of anything that doesn't require an income of a half million dollars.

Not all of us, as a matter of fact probably none of us, can afford the trend of thousands it costs for these big projectors, or servers, sound bars and massive television sets.

Where are the reviews for the every day man and woman? I'd love to see budget friendly reviews of things such as AliExpress projectors, Asian brand car stereo stuff, Temu server hardware, or the stuff we see pop up like chairs and sofas on the cheap, you know, the stuff that the average consumer can actually afford but has to hum and ha over because the economy is horrendous here in Canada.

The disconnect from the everyday viewer is widening, at least for me. I liked the older stuff I could relate to.
