What information or evidence do you cite when people question you on the safety and efficacy of compounded tirzepatide?

I saw a post on the brand name sub where people were discussing why they choose self pay for brand instead of compounded tirz. A lot of people were concerned about the lack of regulation, batch testing, and transparency. I only recently stopped drinking the Lilly kool aid but want to know more from people who have studied this for a long time.

How do I offer to pay for my friend’s vacation without making it awkward?

I (F25) have a trip planned to see a concert for a group we enjoy and I want my best friend (F25) to go. She’s works full time but is in grad school so money is really tight for her. We’ve discussed it and she has kind of been reluctant to commit to going and I’m like 90% sure it’s because of money. I was talking to my parents about it and they’re willing to pay for her to go (flight + hotel + ticket) but I don’t want to make it awkward for her.

How do I broach this and offer it without putting any pressure on her or making her feel small by offering to pay? Probably looking at about a total value of $1000.

Stalled on Zepbound? Eli Lilly to allow more patients to apply for compassionate use of retatrutide

“For a limited number of patients who meet specific medical criteria and cannot enroll in a clinical trial, we believe it is medically appropriate to make authentic retatrutide available before FDA approval, consistent with FDA’s guidance,” a Lilly spokesperson told STAT.

https://www.statnews.com/2026/08/03/eli-lilly-retatrutide-mystery-patient-doctors-seek-same-access-their-patients/

Also somewhat encouraging to read the article and to learn that friend of the sub, Dr. Spencer Nadolsky, was able to have a patient preliminarily qualify.

How involved is your doctor with your Zepbound journey?

I’d like to know what’s going on with other people. My doctor is very hands off. I got the script and that’s pretty much it. I had to teach him how to send a prescription to LillyDirect and while he prescribed it for me because I wanted to transition from telehealth, but I have received no actual instruction or counseling from him. I’m fine with that. I haven’t had any concerning side effects and there are tons of online resources. But he didn’t teach me anything about goal setting, he didn’t teach me how to do anything really.

But it looks like some people do have more custom, personal medical care with doctors to manage dosing and frequency and I wonder what that experience is like. It seems like some people have super hands-on doctors who manage their care closely and either deny or force dose changes. I don’t get the sense my provider knows that much about these medications at all and wouldn’t be a great resource for education.

At what point are we taking new ID and passport photos?

I’m down almost 50lbs with tirzepatide since March. My passport is about to expire and I do generally like to travel internationally a few times per year, but I would like to lose another 90-100lbs. I don’t think it makes sense to get a new passport today when I have that much left to lose, but I’m wondering what everyone’s else is doing.

News: Eli Lilly pushing retatrutide approval application back. Lilly plans to submit the drug as a biologic in Q1 2027.

Providing an update for the people who may have stalled at 15mg on Zepbound or are seeking alternative treatments for obesity treatment. If you’re looking to switch, you’ll have to wait a little longer. Eli Lilly released some new data on their phase 3 obesity trials and some important information on what the future looks like for retatrutide.

“In TRIUMPH-2, adults with obesity or overweight and type 2 diabetes, a population with increased difficulties losing weight, lost up to an average of 49.6 lbs (20.8%) at 80 weeks. In TRIUMPH-3, adults with severe obesity and established cardiovascular disease, with or without type 2 diabetes, lost up to an average of 55.8 lbs (22.6%) at 80 weeks
>Lilly plans to submit a Biologics License Application (BLA) for retatrutide to FDA in Q1 2027”

https://investor.lilly.com/news-releases/news-release-details/lillys-triple-agonist-retatrutide-successful-two-additional

“The pharmaceutical giant previously said it would submit an application as early as this year for the weekly injection, retatrutide, which works differently and appears to be more effective than existing shots and pills. In a statement to CNBC, Lilly said it needs more time to gather and verify the manufacturing and quality-control data required by regulators before it can seek approval.”

Is there an antidiet way to encourage someone to use a GLP1?

I have a close relative who I think would really benefit from a GLP1. He is in his late 30s has a diagnosis of Class III obesity and unfortunately, he has developed high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes. He does not take the Metformin or statins prescribed because he feels as though it irritates his stomach. Without shaming any particular food group, his diet unfortunately is not filled with particularly nutrient dense foods that could improve his cholesterol or blood sugar. As a result, he is living with untreated diabetes and untreated high cholesterol and his weight is continuing to go up.

I don’t want to overstep my boundaries or take on the responsibility for his health. And I also know most of us have had uncomfortable and hurtful conversations with loved ones about our weight, but I am *really* scared for him and I don’t know if or how to help.

Edit: I have only included his food to contextualize so I could get better advice. It isn’t to shame his choices, but rather to explain that his situation is not being managed with non-medical interventions like changes to nutrition and lifestyle.

How to track progress without resorting to too much body checking?

Also CW: IWL

I have been faithfully using a scale to measure progress almost every day, but scales aren’t perfect. But in moments when the scale hasn’t moved in accordance with how much I’m eating or moving, I found helpful to use a tape measure and a really nice, but tight pair of jeans to track progress. Well, I think it’s worked to help me track my weight loss, but now I’m wondering if I’ve let it snowball out of control.

I find myself trying on the jeans 2-3x per week and taking a progress pictures to see if I’m getting smaller. I’m wondering if I’ve let this snowball a bit. Ironically, I’ve become so neutral on the scale that it doesn’t really phase me much now, but instead I’m more concerned with tracking size instead of weight.

It doesn’t help that a few weeks, someone yelled at me and called me fat because I asked them to stop smoking on the bus even though I’m 1/3 of the way to my goal. It’s like a reminder that I have so far to go even despite how far I’ve come.

Anyone else get diagnosed with a disaccharide deficiency or CSID because of Crohn’s?

As a result of Crohn’s, I developed a disaccharidase deficiency for the enzymes to breakdown sucrose and isomaltose. It was diagnosed on an upper endoscopy biopsy. Symptoms were very similar to IBS symptoms like cramping, bloating, and abdominal pain. I don’t see this discussed at all so wanted to see if anyone out there is dealing with this.

As a result, I’m supposed to modify my diet to reduce starch and my doctor prescribed Sucraid which is oral sacrosidase and the only medical treatment for sucrase deficiency. It is incredibly expensive like all things IBD ($12,000 per month) so my doctor and I had to submit an external appeal through the state and after 3 attempts, finally got coverage.

How comparable is a transvaginal ultrasound to penetrative sex?

I’m a virgin, and had a scan and it was uncomfortable and hurt upon insertion. Once it was in, I couldn’t feel it but it did hurt when the tech moved it to get different angles of my ovaries and uterus. It felt less painful than a speculum but more painful than a tampon. How does this compare to penetrative sex in terms of discomfort and pain… is it worse, better or about the same? I want to hear your experience.

Francesca’s report on the Soto and Lindor rift is easy to debunk

Evan claimed Mike “doesn’t just make things up.” Mike claimed the rift stemmed from Lindor not reaching out but we know that isn’t true.

Published on December 11, 2024

“I said, ‘Congratulations, my brother, enjoy,’” Lindor recalled of the exchange. “‘This is fantastic for you, for your family. Have a moment for yourself, and then let’s get to work.’”

Soto’s reply: “Exactly. Let’s do it.”

Whatever the source of the rift is, it happened after this. It cannot be attributed to Lindor not reaching out.

Eat more shrimp.

The other day, I had a huge shrimp cocktail. I was getting ready to log it into my tracker and I had to triple check it because I thought for sure that it was wrong. It felt like an indulgence, but a single jumbo shrimp is only 14-20 calories! And it has *tons* of protein.

10 jumbo shrimp is roughly 6 oz. It’s super satiating, but is like 200 calories max for 40g of protein and less than 1g of fat! Chicken breast is another great source of protein with about 53g in a 6 oz serving, but it also has more fat (6g) and calories (280) than shrimp. It also usually has to be cooked in some kind of oil or fat whereas a shrimp cocktail is really just boiled shrimp, and maybe a little bit of lemon and cocktail sauce.

If you can have your shrimp without slathering it is a ton of butter (which is also delish but maybe just a once in a while treat), it’s a great high protein source and also is high selenium, which improves your thyroid function and regulates your metabolism.

A 3 oz serving of cooked shrimp contains about 42 mcg of selenium which is roughly 76% of the recommended DV. A study of more than 3,200 people, also found “dietary selenium intake has a strong inverse association with obesity and obesity severity.” People who consumed less selenium had higher BMI and every 0.45 mcg/pound/day increase in dietary selenium corresponded to a 3–6% decrease in body fat.

GLP-1 semaglutide induced 1.7x greater weight loss than diet alone despite identical caloric intake

Key points from the Journal of Physiology:

-Semaglutide (Ozempic and Wegovy) results in greater weight loss than caloric restriction.

-Semaglutide treatment increases fat loss compared with caloric restriction.

-Muscle mass and strength is reduced to a similar extent by semaglutide and restricted feeding.
