4 Years in October

Human efficiency. 3.5 years living in a Ford Transit Connect Short Wheelbase. Just got the Heater/AC blower motor fixed after 8 months of it not working. Practicing for my retirement in 5 years. Lol.

Hellcat VI Tuned All Fourths

Me recording a scratch track on my Hellcat VI. This is why I love this instrument so much. I can play the bass and guitar parts on one instrument. Makes it a lot faster to write parts.

What Looks Goth But Sounds Synth Pop?

In 1983, I bought a copy of this album without hearing any of the music on it. Back then, you had to do a lot of "chance buying" because only college radio stations would play the cool stuff and unless you had read a review by a trusted music critic, you had no idea what to expect when walking into a record store and thumbing through the new releases. I was "expecting" this album to sound like Bauhaus or Sisters of Mercy based on the excellent cover art. What came out of the speakers when I got the album home was pure Synth Pop. Don't get me wrong.I did like the album - it just wasn't as dark as I was hoping it would be. I did hear Effigy played every now and then at the goth clubs, but I always felt the cover was misrepresative of the music the album contained. A year later Ministry released (Every Day Is) Halloween as a 12" Single on Wax Trax!, which is a very strange track itself. Gothic lyrics over Synth Pop/Dark Wave music. I know Al Jourgensen was going through an identity crisis back then, finally landing in the "Industrial" camp with the album Twitch (one of my all-time favorite albums).

I'd be interested to know how many Elder Goths had this album in their collection back in the day?

Jett Harris Electric Bass Pioneer

Jett Harris - one of the greatest and most influential bassists of all time. First electric bassist in the UK. Member of the iconic band, The Shadows. Without him, most of our heroes would have never picked up the instrument.

Hellcat VI

The reason I love my Schecter Hellcat VI is because I can play bass and guitar parts without changing instruments. Which is great for writing in the studio.

Helmet Removal Sequence

Series of stills from a recent filming in Everett, WA with actress/singer Goldi Sinclair. I made the helmets so the bubble could be removed fairly easily. The vents in from of the collar have usb fans in them to keep the bubble from steaming up. I built 3 helmets total.

Sci-Fi Music Videos

We are trying a little bit of a different approach with our music promotion. I made 2 music videos (more yo come) that correlate with a sci-fi concept album with are currently in studio recording. I have submitted the music video to various festivals with decent results.

As a filmmaker with two features under my belt, I wanted to get back into shorter formats. I love love love music videos and have since I was a teen watching countless hours of MTV.

Because I refuse to use AI, this is extremely time-consuming, but eventually, I hope to have full music videos for each song 14 in total.

Is Goth Doomed to Become a Caricature of Itself?

I'd be interested to see what everybody's take is on the more recent trend of hyper-sexual goofy "Goth Girl" thirst trap creators on TikTok and YouTube. I mean, is this the future of Goth? Burning the aesthetic down to a cosplay template?

In my own experience, ALL of the Gothic Women that I have dated since the '80s have been well read, intelligent, and elegant. Several were musicians, poets, or writers.

Personally, I feel that some of these creators are creating a stereo type thatdoesn'tt exist. Am I wrong?

I have come across several younger Goth Girl creators that delve into the history of the music, interesting new bands, or the culture, but they don't seem to get the same high view counts.

Thoughts?

Also, I intentionally cut off the creator's info on the stills.

Elvis & Vampira 1956

On May 3, 1956, Elvis was performing at the New Frontier Hotel in Las Vegas. Maila Nurmi (Vampira) was also in town performing in a stage show with Liberace.

Elvis (who was just 21) had just walked offstage, rattled and discouraged after an older, conservative audience booed him off for his provocative hip-grinding. Nurmi went backstage to comfort him, reassuring the young star that the crowd was just scared of his originality and accurately predicted he would become a global phenomenon.
