IM & Danskos

Was gifted a pair by a family member for graduation med school (they heard they were “the best”). I feel somewhat silly wearing them knowing they’re more OR gear. Tried em on a few times and they’re mildly comfy but not blown away.

Just want to know if I’ll be clowned/judged for wearing them on the floors. 🥴 lmk thoughts Tia

Dry cleaner

Hey fellow slopers? Slopians? (We’ll workshop that one)

Went into a dry cleaning place the other day and saw $12 for shirts? I get where we are but that still seems a little steep.

Can anyone recommend to me anyplace with a little lower cost. I have 5+ shirts and 2 suits In desperate need of a good cleaning.

Willing to travel a a decent distance for a better price. I saw $4 in the east village the other day so i know there’s better out there, would just prefer not to go thatttt far lol

Bonus if they can put the button back on my pants.
TIA!

LOA/late start/delay

I know this isn’t the greatest sub for this, but got removed off residency sub. Hoping some recent grads can help me out.

Hi all, just got some unsettling news that my only remaining parent was diagnosed with cancer <2 weeks before I’m supposed to start residency. We’re still unsure how invasive it is as of yet, but in precaution of worst case, I’m an only child and realistically only remaining family.

If this is serious i cannot imagine starting residency from a logistics standpoint in caring for her or a mental health standpoint of myself.

Just reaching out to gauge if anyone’s been in or known of a similar spot and see what my options are and what i should do next. Thanks guys

Edit: incoming PGY1 IM

Brooklyn bridge bike path jogger

Yesterday i was riding back to Brooklyn across the bridge and there was a jogger in the bike path?

This is not normal/allowed right? I miss timed it and almost fell off trying to avoid him/oncoming bikers.

To my knowledge no one said anything to him and he looked like he didn’t care. Just wanted to give a heads up incase this is a growing trend and double check that he was infact in the wrong lol.

Stay safe everyone

Acne and massage

Hey all,

Sorry weird/gross question. I’ve always wanted to get a massage, but i have some mild to moderate acne on my back. I personally don’t care at this point, but I’ve always avoided getting a massage bcs i feel bad for the masseuse and i imagine it’s not super enjoyable for them.

I’ve just come to ask if any of you 1) actually care or am i in my head 2) if there’s anything i can do to make it easier/better? Or just any overall thoughts/advice.

TIA!

Finical future: where to start?

Good evening gentlemen,

Long time follower of the sub, first time poster. Lost my father at a young age and never really had a male role model to fill in, been kinda winging it and doing alright I’d say.

I recently just graduated medical school and will be starting residency in a month and will get my first “adult paycheck” at the age of 29. Resident pay is nothing to sneeze at but nonetheless it’s real steady income and just want to have more financial literacy and know what to do with it.

I will be swimming in med school debt for the foreseeable future, but regardless i want to start making good moves for my future and future family. I was hoping for some wise sage advice on where to start? Either if i should be reaching out to a finical advisor or some other institution/bank/service and how much something like this would cost? I know “financial advice” isn’t allowed on this sub but any direction would be greatly appreciated, including any resources/videos/books/podcasts to increase my financial literacy. TIA 🤙🏻

Looking for a printer

I’m sure this is a loaded question these days, but I’m starting a new job and need a printer at home that’s reliable, consistent and easy to use.

It’s not going to be a crazy amount of printing, mostly just a few documents to bring to work a day. Need black and white, and color. Ideally would like to spend less than 500, but open to more if the quality/experience is really that much better.

TIA!!

Edit: seems like brother it is!! Thanks everyone

Ps: if anyone has a brother horror story or strongly feels for another brand feel free to chime in

1 whole month in NYC MDW -July 4th

Hey friends, i have a full month off and have decided to sublet a place in Chelsea before i start residency 🎉 i was wondering with so much time, if anyone has some recommendations of things to do (big and small). I’ve been to the city a lot over the years but having a full month to really do it proper want to do all the things I’ve missed. Any recs in any borough will be appreciated. TIA 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Edit: I’m 28 single guy, love sports and being active, trying new foods and honestly any new experiences.
Would also love lesser know museum recs. Budget - consider it “unlimited”

First bike purchase

Hey gang, quick question! Looking to finally break free from the shackles of Citi bike and get my own ride.

I’m looking for a commuter bike that can handle a 15 minute ride (pretty flat). I live in south slope was hoping anyone could give me recs on any shops nearby they like/trust, any bike brands/Models, ect that are good for causal commuting and a ballpark price I’d be on the hook for so i can know if I’m getting scammed/good deal.

Again, this is casual ride not looking for anything super crazy, off-roading or triathlon training just standard starter bike. Also open to buying 2nd hand if anyone has leads. TIA!! 🚴‍♂️

Unhappy with match-looking for potential swap/change

Hi all,

Let me start by saying i don’t mean to sound ungrateful as i know matching is a privilege that some on this thread are seeking but hear me out.

I worked pathologically hard in medical school. Did what i thought was right really focused on the content and tried to learn how to be a doctor. When it came to exams and rotations crushed em. Honored 8/9 rotations, 1HP, 270 step 2 and AOA, solid letters and no red flags. Consider myself personable and have always interviewed well.

Unfortunately my medical school didn’t have the best research connections so applied with 0, but now have 1 4th author and 1 5th author paper.

I took some bad advice from 3rd party advisor and applied too top heavy resulting in only 5 signaled IVs and subsequently matching at my absolute safety program which is my medical schools hospital affiliate.

I signed my letter of intent and going to give it an honest try, just having rotated in the system i know what to expect, both on wards and for career path. To be honest I’m very disappointed.

Just wanted to reach out and gauge if there is anyone out there who has experienced /know of my situation and see what the realistic options are for me, or if anyone can recommend a consultant to help me navigate my options. TIA 🫣

Edit: sorry applied and matched internal

Incoming pgy-1

Hey all, very excited to get started in a month. Really want to hit the ground running and try to be as competent possible when i start. Now i know there will be some growing pains but figured I can try to position my self now.

 1. I took everyone’s advice and chilled all 4th year but now ramping back up, are there any topics/things i should brush up on and any resources you recommend?

 2. what are some of the most common intern mistakes or things to remember

 3. and other words of wisdom or helpful advice.

Tia from myself and any other intern who might stumble on here 🫡

We as a society need to relax with the AC in the summer.

Now don’t get it twisted, air conditioning in the comfort of your own home is a must. I’m talking about in any public space. As it was 90 the last 2 days this is relevant.

Coffe shop, movie theater, restaurant, office building, convenience store, please stop teleporting me to the place mike and sully were banished to. It does not need to be 55° inside when it is 72° outside.

I live in NY and the weather is Garbo 85% of the year. When it is actually hot out, let me me hot. I don’t need ac blasting at my full tilt to the point where i need to bring a jacket with me just for the inside. If it’s 85 and sunny it’s completely acceptable for it to be 70 degrees inside. Thank you for coming to my TED talk

Edit: this low key blew up, gona call it quits. High of 87 tmrw so gotta dig my winter coat out to go shopping. Stay well everyone 🤙🏻

Football game vs North ridge

I have no idea why i ever thought of this but i felt like this would have been a fire plot for end of season 1 or 2.

Robbie (or sinjin) goes to the mall and gets bullied and like stuffed into the locker, tied to flagpole some 90s jock shit. And when the girls find him he says it was the north ridge football team.

Later the guys (beck andre mostly) confront them they get all in their face and are like yeah you guys all you do is sing and dance and aren’t tough like us.

Tori would pop out (bcs let’s be honest main character syndrome—she has to get involved in everyone’s business) and say something like yeah well they can beat u guys in A football game.

Some B plot about Trina trying to form a pep squad/cheer leaders but no one wants to join her—finally people do and then they kick Trina out of her own squad lmao.

Pyschowitz becomes coach bcs why not i don’t think there’s any other adults in the entire show. And he’s like i actually “played a football coach for a Tv show 30 years ago.”

C plot jade doesn’t want beck playing bcs it’s dangerous they get in huge fight.

Moral of the story they like mostly suck until they find out for whatever weird reason Robbie has this cannon of an arm from working Rex as a puppet his whole life.

Flash forward to the game north ridge cooks them first half. Tori/cat do halftime, prob some other hijynx/Shenagains to detract/distract north ridge.

2nd half HA comes back. 4th q down by 4 10 seconds left Robbie gets tackled and his glasses break he can’t see. Beck has to go in at QB and last play of the game he throws a game winning touchdown to Andre, but in the process is tackled and breaks his arm.

He’s taken to the hospital as tori accompanies him on the ambulance ride. They have a heartfelt talk, and they admit feelings and share a kiss. Upon beck arriving to hospital, jade rushes in after hearing what happened. Tori leaves and jade rushes to the bedside, beck now in a sling is being hugged by jade while he looks past her out the window and Tori who is doing her generic Tori overwhelmed look. Cut to credits -end of season.

Bonus after credit scene of Trena trying to flirt with all the north ridge football players as they’re leaving the game, all ignoring her.

Samsung TV extremely laggy

I apologize in advance if this does not fit, but i couldn’t find a more niche subreddit.

I will start this off by saying i am pretty tech naive for a 30 year old.

Regardless i have a fairly new (2-3 year old) Samsung TV and it is by far the most frustrating piece of tech i own.

Anytime you use the remote to try to toggle through the “home page” it’s either on a significant delay or misses the entry entirely leading it to be a mess. Not to mention the UI is abysmal.

What makes this more frustrating is that once you enter an app (Hulu, Netflix ect) the problems seem to resolve??

I was curious if anyone has ever encounter similar issues or has a remedy for solution, or if this is just a quirk of Samsung TVs? TIA

Cristin Milioti & Palm Springs

She is a phenomenal actress and i feel like we got the privilege of experiencing her before she blew up in the mainstream with projects like Penguin, but just wanted to recommend to anyone who hasn’t seen to watch Palm Springs on Hulu (with Andy Sandburg).

Plays on a tired trope but i thought it was a refreshing twist. Also a b99 fan so i enjoyed the dynamic they had together, and really liked getting to see Cristin beyond the limited screen time we got With her in szn 9.

Discussion: Best Almost game winning plays in big games

I’ve been thinking about this for a while. What are some all time plays that almost win a championship/pivotal game for a team but end up all but lost to history as a result of the outcome of the game.

The three that stick out most notably to me are:

Marcus Paige’s game tying 3 in the 2016 NCAA finals but ultimately Villanova hit the buzzer beater.

Jermaine Kearse’s incredible awareness to catch the deflected ball at the 5 (Seahawks-pats 2014) erased by Malcom butler

Alex verdugo diving into the stands in the 2024 World Series game 1 game saving catch - erased by Freddy freeman HR.

I’m sure there are tons more that i can’t personally think of, but was hoping to get a running list. Any others come to mind for?
