We're looking for some AD&D DMs to come to Arnecon in October

I need help and I figured this would be the place to ask.

https://www.tfott.com/arnecon

Arnecon is very focused on classic RPGs of all kinds. For some reason this year we don't have AD&D DMs signing up thus far. People who are running games are running their own variants of D&D, or known published ones.

Not having an AD&D presence is worrisome as it is the premier edition of AD&D IMHO. It really did cement TSR as the leader in the industry.

One thing I am pondering is having an area where 247 walk up AD&D is occurring. Perhaps have a couple DMs trading off duties running whatever they want to run.

So many cool old modules could be used as well. I'd gladly pop into a session of Fell Pass myself, because I've never had a chance to play it.

I don't have a firm concept for any of this. I really want to see AD&D being played

Thoughts on this?

I will check back in a while.

Thanks, Griff

does it count as dawless if the daw is just a recorder?

no daw work, just to record the track and save it, all the rest is done on my sampler

Is my prognosis correct - does new material by Rob Kuntz inspire a reaction?

I run classic D&D, but I am very curious to see what Rob does with this.

He has mentioned he will be using material he worked on with Gary.

One of the Deadliest RPG Settings Known to Gamer Kind

Playing on this map with the random encounter charts is brutal.

Into the Wild Blue Yonder by Rob Kuntz - does it have the look and feel of an old school adventure?

When the module was released we did a fast job of slapping it together. The original covers were meant as a place holder. They even had a banner with Official Arnecon on them in the upper corner.

The new cover will be available soon.

We have a small number of green cover remainder stock on our site:

Z-style vs table-style keyboard stands : which one wobbles less?

I'm looking to replace my X-style keyboard stand for my 61-key keyboard.

My two biggest complaints with X-stands are:

  • They don't feel stable enough.
  • My knees keep hitting the X-bracing when I play sitting down.

I'm now considering either a Z-style stand or a table-style (4-leg) stand.

For those who have actually used both, which one feels more solid in real-world use?

By "solid", I mean:

  • Less side-to-side wobble.
  • Less front-to-back movement.
  • A more rigid feel while playing.

I'm not concerned about portability or weight, I'm mainly looking for the most stable stand for home studio use.

I'd love to hear your experiences and any specific models you'd recommend or avoid.

My new DM keeps Literally Summoning Demons and Shit - Do I stay to find out how the story ends?

Game night is really weird and I feel uncomfortable, but the story is pretty good.

Not really sure how to proceed, as I think I am already bound for hell by taking part in this heavily LARPed stuff with candles and goat heads and stuff.

What should I do?

Saw this highly radioactive photo and now I am becoming really paranoid I could end up with too much analog warmth and get a meltdown.

What do you use to avoid synthesizer Meltdown?

Should I buy a lot of graphite or lead?

Happy 4th Everyone! - just curios, is anyone gaming today?

Some of our players, me included, do not have anything to go do on this fine holiday.

We've decided to do a small D&D night for half of our group with food so everyone can enjoy their fourth by gaming.

It should be loads of fun.

anyone else rolling the dice today?

Pleaz Advize. My synth band, N4vel G4ze ov d3Ath is now ready to play live - Do I need a stage?

N4vel G4ze ov d3Ath is really just me, but I am very good at micro freak and the time has come to unleash my massive sound into the wild. I hope people can handle it.

I also have a delay pedal. If you do not have one of these, it's really a must because it like doubles everything you do.

I have lined up a tour schedule of my entire city. Yet, all these coffee shops and art gallries do not have stages. I feel it is important for everyone to know who I am and what I do.

I already have a fog machine and lots of LED lights I will use as backlighting because I don't really like to make eye contact with people and I figure this will take care of that.

I need to be taller than normal people.

I am thinking about getting a stage, but I am not sure if this will help my tone.

Have you experienced a more positive audience response when they subconsciously acknowledge your genius if you are tallest thing in the room?

Was sent this meme - yes, it is just a joke, yet the old school side fairly of accurate

I don't care how other people play so long as they are having fun.

The old school part referring to exploration is what grabbed my attention. The way most classic RPGs are set up the "story" only exists after the players do stuff.

The adventure is a source of possibility. Once players begin play they enter a narrative reality, or condition. After a play session the story is the plot of what happened in the game which is not pre-ordained.

Winning/surviving is not a given. Players have to make well reasoned choices.

I would add in problem solving as a task players must perform without the use of dice. Though, combat is a problem solving situation as well.

Some thoughts about this: It's a joke meme - It's also a core premise of OSR / Classic RPG play

There is a real difference between how contemporary RPGs and classic games are played.

IMHO classic play is about exploring and discovering. Sure, you want to gain experience and level up, but really you want to learn about the world you are in. Your character is just a bit player in a team of adventurers.

I think we can discuss this without going down the road of slamming other ways of doing things like how Critical Role presents RPGs - it is different is all.

But, a true Classic RPG game session, again IMHO, is about learning about the world.

DM won't Role Play the BBEG properly and ruins months of campaign time because he has no balls - Am I wrong?

I am so pissed off at our DM.

Everyone who is truly D&D knows that Role Play is everything in the game because the DM Role Plays the game reality. i.e. when you come to a door, there is no door. The DM plays Make Believe and Role Plays the door for the players. The DM becomes the door.

Last weekend we were playing the finale of a series of sessions, and the DM sort of broke the mood by declaring the scene we were about to enter was with the BBEG. Ok, a little bit of pre-RPG metagame is a good lead in to an intense role play session. We're all experienced gamers and the actual game had not started yet. I was fine with that little error on his part.

As an experienced player I want to assess how powerful the BBEG is. In a low gravelly whisper (this is how my character always talks) I ask, "How Big Are His Balls?"

The DM just gives me this kind of mean glassy stare and says nothing.

I'm like: dude, we need to do some recon before we go barging in. I'm gonna go talk to some Goblins to find out how big his balls are.

The DM says, "This is a fantasy game and we don't do ball stuff, because we don't need to know that kind of stuff."

That's when Chris pipes up and says, "As the Magic User, I kind of want to know how Furry they are."

Then Lamb, that's his last name we don't use whole names because the CIA is watching our game sessions closely and recording everything, says, "WTF dude, BBEG stands for Big Balled Evil Guy, we must be apprised how big those shiny spheres are!"

(It should be noted he says this in his Elf voice, and not his normal speaking voice.)

The DM then totally ruins the session with, "The BBEG is actually a woman, so I can't tell you how big her balls are. I don't want to talk about balls. I'm not going to even do this BBEG scene - you guys have a weird fixation about Big Balls."

I was speechless. We'd been playing for months and everything was leading up to the BBEG and he wasn't going to give us any kind of Ball Role Play at all. Seriously MF? WTF is this crap?

It was at that point that Cerulean, that's his secret anti CIA name, yells, "This is Bull Shit - sure it's Big Balled Evil Guy, even women BBEG's have Metaphorical Balls!"

The DM won't budge, "There are no balls in D&D. D&D is about equality. You can't have balls."

That's when Realm Builder the Paladin (this isn't his real name either, he too is justifiably really paranoid about CIA D&D oversight) mumbles the words "You've destroyed D&D forever", grabs the pizza box that had just arrived, and violently throws it across the room, sending red sauce and pepperoni flying everywhere, before storming out of the room.

Now I am sitting there with tiny specs of sauce all over my face and feeling like our DM has basically told me I don't know how to D&D. It's taking everything I have not to call the DM dirty names, because he's literally saying I am some kind of Green Poser Newb and somehow I am now the A - Hole in the room.

It's just basic PC stats as to size, symmetry, fur, sheen, heft, load, hang, and any other quantifiable ball factor.

Am I asking for too much info here?
