My 4th of July Is Cursed. What Do I Do?

I couldn't think of any other sub to post this in so I'm here.

The title is not a joke. This curse began in 2015.

4th of July 2015: I'm at a party with some friends. One of my friends asked me whether I had seen the Facebook post about my best friend. I said no.

Long story short. My best friend had passed away that morning due to a motorcycle accident. I had the misfortune of being the first to inform many of my close mutual friends the news.

4th of July 2018: I work as a real estate agent. This was my first year in the business. I had just closed a deal for my buyer who was in his 70s and moving from one state to another because our marijuana laws are better. We close on his new home on a Friday. He says that he'll move in on Monday.

Monday comes, movers show up to the new house but buyer never shows. The selling agent calls me to update me. I can't get in touch of my buyer so I say give it another day and then we'll figure something out. Tuesday comes and no show. Wednesday morning - the 4th of July - I get a call from an unknown number. Turns out, it was my buyer's son who was furious with me. He tells me that my buyer - his dad - had passed away in a jail on Tuesday.

Turns out that my buyer was arrested on Monday and passed away from heat exhaustion the next morning. The charge for his arrest? Marijuana possession in the state he was moving from.

4th of July 2021: this is during the COVID pandemic. My grandpa had been sick for a while and then he got COVID. That complicated his health even more and on the 4th of July, my grandpa passed away.

I haven't gone out or really celebrated the 4th of July since 2021 even though nothing as serious has really happened for a few years now. So what do I do tomorrow?

I'm moving to Pensacola with nothing but the clothes I have on.

Sike. I already live here. These kinds of posts suck and are getting out of hand.

Late Truck Rentals

I had a gentleman who rented a truck at around 5:30 this evening. He said he'd need it for about 3 hours. As you know, Lowe's closes at 8pm on Sundays. I told him this several times as we were processing his rental. He said he'd have it back before 8pm.

Welp. I locked up at 8pm. And 2 minutes later, the truck came back. I only noticed it came back because I looked out the doors as I locked up. I talked with my head cashier. She refused to check the truck back in - which I agree with.

So, customer, if you are renting a truck at the last minute with warnings, rethink your plan or risk paying more to have the truck overnight.

A work friend/coworker mentioned the idea of charging customers for a full day extra for these situations. It's not a bad idea. But Lowe's customers don't seem to care and push the envelope.

Anyway, WE CLOSE AT 8PM ON SUNDAYS.

Materials for Lokin Quest (2026)

I periodically pick up playing SWTOR to catch up on releases or play parts I haven't played yet. At the moment, I'm trying to recruit my allies' friends.

Sidenote: these quests are so mundane and frustrating.

Anyway, to the question at hand. I know I have to get Lokin materials for his serum. I took the lazy way and bought a few on the GTN. But when I went back to him, it wouldn't allow him to accept it. The option is grayed out. The only materials he accepted were my 14 rakghoul canisters which only raised the influence up to a 6.

Is it because I didn't have enough? I have probably just under 200 materials total. Is it because I went to the GTN? Or is it a bug?

Any workaround is appreciated. Playing Steam on PC.

I wanted to like Waiting for the Barbarians because I like Robert Pattinson, but I didn't like it, unfortunately.

I like the occasional slow burn, but this was an excruciatingly slow burn that made 2 hours feel like 6 hours. I get the point of the story, but c'mon.

Your Broker Makes the Difference

Currently, I have my license voluntary inactive. This follows a discussion between my broker and I. I have some personal issues going on that is hurting my real estate career. I had a conversation with my broker and we agreed this was the best course of action.

I say that to say that if you and your broker can't have - at least - a heart-to-heart conversation about your career, find a new broker.

Being a broker is not easy. Being an agent is not easy. An agent/broker relationship should be professionally strong. If not even personally.

My license has been inactive for a month while I figure stuff out. But I texted my broker because I consider him a mentor or a friend. He has a birthday party this weekend. I knew about it because he sent a text about it. But I assumed because I wasn't an agent, I wasn't invited. He said the opposite.

For you new agents or any agent switching, find a broker that values you beyond the job. It will do wonders for you.

JFC is Lowe's ai phone bad

To be fair... I do have a speech issue. But our AI phone is so bad it can't understand the most basic commands or requests. I'm trying to call out and it hung up on me 4x in the last 15 minutes. I'll try again tomorrow because I'm calling out for tomorrow (health issues). But Jesus effin Christ. This AI.

If I Had a Quarter...

If I had a quarter for every phone call that asked if Lowe's was closed or had changed the hours for Memorial Day between yesterday and today, I'd have $3.

We're open normal hours.😒

I Got 2 VERY IMPORTANT Notifications In the Wrong Order.

Imagine if your family member is famous and you get notified he died. Then you get a notification that he's just sick. Then you decide to call straight to the source and you find out your family member did indeed die.

Edit: if this is how you find out, I apologize. I did use the spoiler flair and tag, but still. I'm sorry.

Edit: the body text is a hypothetical "imagine if this happened to you." I don't know this man or anyone in his family. I did like him as a racer though so this does feel important to me.

A 3ft-long return receipt that took nearly an hour to finish up.

$2500 worth of returns from every department except for ISLG/OSLG/Appliances. It was exhausting. Thanked me for being patient and not mean about it though.

If I Told You Josh Johnson Is 36yrs Old, Would You Believe Me?

When he first got popular, I thought he was in his late 20s at best. Dude is the same age as me though. I have to keep remind myself of that when I see one of his clips or specials.

I texted about a baseball game not realizing my buddy was probably at work.

My friend from college is a Yankees fan. I'm an Orioles fan. The O's just swept their series with the Yankees so I texted my friend to tease him. He hits me with that last text. 😂

The price differences for the same trip between Lyft and Uber is actually insane.

A recent post about the price of a trip and I made a comment about the price differences for me to go from work to back home which is about a 20min trip. The prices from Lyft for some of these options are insane compared to the prices from Uber...

I Picked Up Force Unleashed during the May the 4th Be With You Sale... I'm Mad I Didn't Pick Up Force Unleashed II At the Same Time.

I never got the chance to play Force Unleashed when it came out. Knew about it. Knew the general story. Just finished it a few minutes ago. Spent 19hrs on Steam to finish the game. It was so good. And now the sequel is $20 again. I'll have to wait a few days to buy it - I'm on a weekly budget. Lol

PS. I knew the bringing down a Star Destroyer was a big deal, but that was the absolute worst part of the game and possibly among one of the worst game mechanics I've ever experienced. Good lord.

FIFA-esque Playlist 2026

I recently created a playlist that reminded me of old school FIFA as I play Football Manager on my phone. Notes/Criticism/Praise welcome.

I did use AI for help initially but I changed a lot myself... Slightly annoyed this is marked AI.

Weekends are the worst/busiest days of the week, as we know. On 3 different occasions, a customer tried to return items they bought over 3 years ago. Yes, they have the receipt. Cool, it's unused. But, it's been 3 years. My ASMs and store say no. And I think that's fair! You've had 90 days to return that thing and you wait 3 years???
