fastest way to launch an app without AI for personal use

I want to make a pretty simple app for my kid that would get the weather and show text that is specific to him based on the weather. It has to be for iOS.

I’d rather not use AI, but aside from that I don’t actually know how to get started as in how to actually set up the environment so I can make and test an app and then get it on his iPad.

I do have a programming background but it’s been decades and I’m a tired parent. So if it was all set up and easy enough to use I know I just need to create some if statements.

Ideas for adding visual change to trains?

I think my kid's gotten bored of his trains, and he's autistic but with a very specific form of play which is not pretend play, not circuits, but making straight tracks (with some up and down and curved elements) and having the electric train go down it.

So I'm wondering what creative ideas folks may have to make it look more interesting? I'm thinking of like.. something to attach to the back of a train, for example, but all I can think of is a ribbon which wouldn't actually be very interesting and would probably just get caught in the wheels :)

Or anything else you think could add something interesting to the train set!

Just trying to get basic button click info

I’m trying to either get data on button clicks or pdf downloads.

We have tag manager set up it seems. And it seems to automatically record button clicks.

What I’m struggling with is how in the engagement / event report do I find the specific button I’m looking for???

I was able to find the event for one button that went to an external url that we don’t use anywhere else. So I know it’s possible! Although even in that case it shows up as 2 different rows in the event report for some reason??

But another button goes to a Google form, and we have many links to Google forms so I see many events when I try to search Google Docs. I can’t figure out what row is the exact button I’m looking for. Thereport cuts off the event name after very few characters, even when I drill into that event, so I see it’s a Google link but nothing after that??

How to STICK the Headliner to the car at the edge

Toyota Camry.. about 10 years old.

The headliner is this stiff material that ends near the rear window, but doesn't touch the rear window. It has some clips in the middle of it to the roof.

The problem... my kid (disabled, strong, can't just follow directions) puts his fingers under the headliner and pulls it down. The clips just pop out, and he's going to break it.

I took it to an upholstery place today and he said that we can't glue the edge of the headliner to the roof of the car because it doesn't touch the roof.

But we have to do *something*. What are our options?

Vinyl sticker for passenger car window?

I wanted to make a little vinyl sticker for the passenger car window (it would be "turn left" and "turn right" for my minimally speaking kid who keeps shouting TURN when he's sitting in the car and I want a visual reminder for him of saying turn left and turn right).

My idea would be to put it on the outside of the passenger side window. And I bought a cricut vinyl sticker. But is this a dumb idea because when we roll down the window it could break our car / window???

Any candle makers here?

I need a completely non toxic citronella candle but it doesn’t have to be in a fancy jar or anything. I’m thinking a hobby candle maker could do it (and sell it to me of course). Anyone here or know somewhere I could find someone?

HELOC application - avg fee and appraisal questions?

Hi!

I've spoken to 2 brokers who can help me apply for a HELOC and they aren't telling me the same thing.

Background: We own a house, no mortgage. We bought the house this year (January).

  • One told me that we can avoid them having to do an appraisal if we ask for an amount that is low enough (so if we CAN get up to 65% of the value of the house, if we ask for more like 50% they'll likely not do an appraisal - or an in-person check appraisal).
  • One told me that the fees are usually around $1500 which is the fee for a third party appraisal and the cost for a lawyer to register the line of credit on the title. Oddly she told me I'd ask my real estate agent lawyer for the cost estimate??? But I thought the bank just had the lawyer do the thing? Or is this because I don't already have a mortgage, now *I* have to get a lawyer to register them on the title? Or is it like banks can do it or I can do it?
  • Lastly, one said I should go for the HIGHEST amount possible in order to get any lower interest rate. The highest amount is WAY higher than we'd EVER spend, but should we do that? I'm not really worried about us overspending and getting into debt. I'm a pretty anal budgeter / spender!

How to get a slackline and add my own stuff for obstacles for my kid?

Sorry if this isn't the right post for this group!

I want to get a line so I can put swings ladders, nets, etc, up for my kid. I'd rather not do a ready made kit because I know exactly what my kid wants and doesn't want, and I'd be paying a lot for a bunch of crappy quality stuff that he isn't into (or a LOT for good quality stuff he isn't into).

I assume I can buy a slackline individually - I need 65'. Where would I buy that?

And then I'll buy the items separately, but how do I attach them to the slackline and not have them slide all around?? Like clearly a caribener alone isn't going to work!

Best summer weather socks?

Ok so I’m on great Canadian Sox and reading that they’re great!

I can never find the right socks for me. Bombas, for example, are super tight on my calves. I run VERY hot so I assume I want ankle socks.

And I have a couple of double layer pairs for running but like I just went out in one for a few hours - walking, playing with kid, standing, and the bottoms of my feet are sore from friction???

So what summer socks would be good?

Need a car for 3 - 9 months before buying another one... what would you do?

  • We're moving into a house later this Fall that will have an electric charger in the driveway (for an electric car).
  • We're currently staying at my mom's house with no charger hook up here or anywhere nearby
  • Ultimately we'll need an SUV to comfortably carry my kid's wheelchair, but it can fit in the trunk of a sedan (but with no room for anything else)
  • My aunt has an old used car she's offered to sell us right now at a nominal discount. Gas sedan. She'd sell it for about $8K and clutch.ca says it's worth $8.5 - $10K. Looks like theres also 13% tax
  • We haven't owned a car in like 20 years, and even then I only did briefly (we just moved here from NYC)
  • No matter what we'll buy used

My partner wants to just get my aunt's car for a year and see how we use it, how much we use it, and what we'd want. I think it's a waste of money... and I wondered if theres a cheaper way to get a temporary car?

Can someone sue before going to insurance?

Our kid briefly climbed on someone’s car (we stopped him and took him down).

He said our kid dented car but we saw no dents. But we gave him our number in case.

From the beginning he seemed like a scammer. He said that it was verrrrry expensive to replace and required completely removing the roof and putting a new one on, re painting, re sanding, etc “but he’d only charge us a fraction”.

He asked if we’d pay via e transfer. Via text, before even giving a quote he said again “will you pay via e transfer” and sent us his photos where I still saw no dent. We did NOT commit to paying (he hadn’t told us any amount or anything) and just said get a quote and then we can discuss. This made him mad apparently so the next day he said after cleaning his car he found deep scratches. Still no quote.

We don’t actually think our kid caused any damage - definitely not the scratches based on our kids shoes and the fact that they were only visible after washing his car ????

At this point my insurance broker / friend said to stop dealing with this guy who isn’t even giving us a rough estimate and tell him to go to insurance.

So we did and we gave him our insurance info. This made him really mad. He said “I have video proof! Still want to go through insurance??” And we said yes.

Today he said “my parents have said we aren’t going through insurance and we’re just going to sue you. Still don’t want to settle?”

So my question is…… CAN you just sue someone without involving insurance for a claim that should be very small (since absolutely nobody says a dented roof that is small enough that it’s hardly visible and in the middle of the roof is very expensive?). Can we just have our insurance deal with him suing us?

No primary account holder, no PIN, not in the US, account is apparently technically messed up... how to get access????

Ok so here's the situation:

  • I am / was (nobody knows) the primary account holder for my 3 family member Magenta plan
  • A few weeks ago I changed my number and ported my old number out, and was told that wouldn't impact my account at all. I'd still login and be able to see everything just as before.
  • I could not. I couldn't even login. I'd get super weird error messages. Customer service had no idea what to do and told me to just create a new login with a new email address and connect my phone number that way, so I did that.
  • After I did that, when I login it only shows me my line and says there is no Primary Account Holder, and to set one enter the PIN. My PIN doesn't work. I *know* what my PIN is and it definitely doesn't work.
  • The standard answer is to go in person to t-mobile - I'm in Canada and I cannot.
  • The other 2 people on my account want to port out their number, hence we need a Primary Account Holder.
  • When I try to get the FB tmobile team to help me, they ask me to send an email to verify who I am (you can't click the submit button on their form if you aren't in the US - and yes I'm on a VPN and it doesn't matter), and then tell me to tell them the Case ID that gets returned to me. NO email gets returned to me. Then they asked me to email a different email address, which I did, and I DID get a Case ID and they said that isn't appearing in their database.
  • Customer service chat told me that one of the other 3 members on the account is the "primary line" because there is no primary account holder, and he has to go in person to a store and claim primary account holder. So he did go in person and was told that he needs the PIN to claim primary account holder!!! And that to reset the PIN, I have to do it (?!??!?!?!)
  • So now what? We're completely stuck because of a stupid PIN that I was NEVER asked to make and an account that appears to be some weird ghost account.

Is there a default PIN??? I tried all 6 digit combos that would be my birthday...

Petite person - Leap v2, Soji, or BTOD?

Hi!

I scoured all the past posts for a chair for someone who's only 5' tall. I got super helpful advice, and have narrowed down to the following and wondering what people's thoughts are?

  • Leap v2. Generally people say it's the best but then I see some very short people that say it was too big for them. Plus it's the most expensive... I can find one or two (used) *almost* within my budget but I'll have to go over.
  • Hawarth Soji got mentioned in a post? But I'm not really seeing anything to say it's best for petite people!
  • BTOD petite chairs is what I'm leaning towards since they're more within my budget (if they ship to Canada without being ridiculously expensive) and are made for petite people.

I see a few Canadian made petite chairs online but can't find any reviews of them at all from real people.
