Embrace the Gatekeeping - That feeling of annoyance when they announce a repress and you own the original

Off the back of Mos Def announcing a rerelease of his very hard to come by album The Ecstatic, I’ve had a feeling of disappointment as an owner of the original pressing. Especially as it hasn’t been available on streaming either.

I’m not bothered by impact on resale price (I don’t actually know what impact there would be), but its just been nice knowing I had something pretty exclusive on my collection!

How do you feel when they announce a repress of something you already own.

Edit: It‘s apparent to me now this take made me come across as an ass! My wording was definitely stronger than intended… I had no intentions to imply there shouldn’t be rereleases, I was more so attempting to express that twinge of sadness I was feeling. But I understand, the more accessibility to good music the better… point taken!

HDMI CEC re-enabled after every update on Fire Cube

I disabled HDMI CEC on my Fire Cube, which goes to an AV Receiver then my TV, as when it was enabled, it liked to take over the connection and set inputs to it more than other devices that use it. No big deal, I disabled HDMI CEC which solves the problem.
However, it gets enabled again every time it updates. The rest of the household isn't as savvy with TV equipment as me, they just know how to set the receiver and TV to the right inputs for what they are doing.
Last night it updated and took over the screen while my partner was playing an online multiplayer game.

Is there any solution to this, or is it just what they do? I've been a bit let down by the Fire Cube, it also wouldn't let me watch Spider Noir in B&W on Prime, when their own Cube should be one of the places Prime works best. I saw that was a widespread issue across many Fire devices.

I did buy an adapter that's supposed to strip CEC from the connection, which is $25 I shouldn't need to spend. I'm waiting on it now, but a proper solution would be a lot better! I've already checked with my receiver's setting and I can't disable CEC per-input on its side, I can just turn it on/off altogether, and I can't use my ARC audio from my TV with it off. It expects you to enable/disable in the devices that are connected, which makes sense.

Never said it before, but feel like this deserves a "grail acquired"!

In my collection of ~600 titles that range all over in age and value, this stands out as especially special to me. I'm a fan of both artists. It also isn't available on streaming etc. through legit sources as Wendy Carlos doesn't like lossy digital formats and other reasons. I really enjoyed both sides of it!
Managed to get it new, still shrink wrapped. Fair amount of shelf wear. Sleeve is probably G+/VG but record was M (NM now that it's been played cause them's the rules!).

ETA: Didn't realize side 1 is like 32 min and side 2 is about 26. They did a great job, sounds good. I'm guessing lack of heavy bass probably helped out!

Why has physical media not been a thing OR had much pushback on PC for so long?

Ever since Steam became the go-to place for PC games, it's been very rare too see physical copies outside of maybe an expensive special edition, or more commonly a limited reprint of an old game, or indie on Kickstarter offering one.
I love physical media like many here, and console people are pushing back a bit.

How come the PC crowd just accepted all-digital (and basically from a single source, there are other sources but they aren't used nearly as much) and haven't really demanded physical copies? I remember my Half Life 2 when it was new included discs but you also registered it on Steam. Then discs just stopped.

Seems everyone else - console gamers, music media lovers, movie media lovers, print media lovers, all push for physical. Why not PC gamers? I'm sure there's a few but I never hear of any big pushback, and it's been like 2 decades.

Possible to limit wantlist items by condition?

Most of my wantlist items aren't rare to find on Discogs - just rare to find at NM or M which I'm looking for in most cases.
I get constantly spammed with notifs about new G of VG listings every day. I just wanna know if one in better shape shows up. Is there any way to do that? I've poked around but didn't see anything that would keep me from hearing about every beat-up copy missing a sleeve etc.

Confusing credit/activity - where did the balance come from?

I have an interesting situation, and wondering it is a PayPal/merchant issue, or if I'm not looking in the right place. I went to buy something that was over $100 and Paypal said I had over $60 on my balance.
- I got a refund for a $37 purchase that I canceled about 10 days ago. I'd bought it with pay-in-4 but it was long paid off as it was a preorder. I got an email on the 8th that the merchant had refunded me, then one on the 9th that my pay-in-4 was refunded, which I assumed was the same refund. Like it went to the pay-in-4 from the merchant, then to me from the pay-in-4. However I have two lines showing +$37, one from the 8th and one from the 9th, in my Activity.

- I made this purchase today and it said I had over $60 in credit, but I've made puchases since that refund including last night for more than that, with it set to 'use balance first'. I could see a delay perhaps, but it only appeared on this purchase today.

- I can't find anywhere that shows I used balance on my new purchase (also used pay-in-4). It just shows a pay-in-4 for about $50, and drilling down gives me no info showing it was a $100+ order partly paid by my balance.

Any idea what happened here? I'm ok if it is clawed back but would like to figure it out (and see a proper reflection of my balance being used on this purchase).

I've been using PayPal since about the time eBay started accepting it (My eBay account is from '99 when we had to mail money orders or checks). So I know my way around but this confuses me!

Confirmed collector's edition's 1080p disc is the same old Blu-ray

In case anyone was wondering, I checked, and the Blu-ray included in the collector's edition is an exact copy of the existing European disc. Always bugged me they crammed it on a single layer for the US. Though when I saw Europe got dual layer I had hopes for better audio at least, if not more space for the video too. No such luck, they only use about 2GB worth of the 25GB extra space to add standard Dolby Digital tracks for other languages.

Of course the 4k disc is great - well I haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but it sure sounds like it. But if you were hoping they used the new master for the 1080p or added lossless audio to it, no dice.

It does have a unique label side to match the set, but the data's the same old stuff!

Unfortunately this also means it does not contain the corrected credit which respects their gender.

Disposing disposable vape in GNV?

Do any vape shops in GNV have a drop off for properly disposing of disposable vapes, or is the only option going out to the hazardous waste facility?

To be clear, I think they are stupid and very wasteful - I was given one for free and would like to dispose of it properly, but I'm also just curious how easy it is in GNV to do so.

Good media player for 3D MKV (MK3D files)?

I have a few movies in the form of digital MK3D files. Once upon a time I could play them from my PC to my TV in MPC with some plugins, but since Nvidia did away with 3D support, I don't think that's possible anymore without using older drivers that would cause issues on newer games etc.

I have (and haven't used for some time) a Dune HD media player, which did support and play them great. At some point nearly everything I played off it had audio sync issues and I gave it up after updating the firmware a few more times with no improvements (not just 3D or even HD stuff). I'm basically looking for something like that when it worked well.

Dune's new players no longer support 3D at all. I need to play to a standard 3D TV and want the full 3D signal (using a 4k 3D passive set, so each eye gets full 1080).

Is there any player, even something I could find used at a decent price and still works, or what do you suggest currently?

I primarily use these for movies with issues with forced subtitles. I imagine most know, but forced subs are ones that appear even when subs are off. Think something like an English movie and someone speaks in Russian, or an alien is speaking their language. Like the subs under Jabba the Hutt.

Some movies only got 3D Blu-rays in other countries where English isn't the primary language. Despite including the English audio track, many don't include forced subs for English. You can watch it fully subtitled in English, or miss the intentional subs altogether.

In this cases I've gotten both the imported 3D version and the US (or UK) 2D version, and combined them so the subs from the 2D version are on the 3D version. I'm not even sure how I'd make that into a 3D iso to burn to a disc, only an MK3D which is a lossless conversion, and that's complicated enough haha.

TLDR; what media device can I find afforable-ish that can play MK3D files in 3D over HDMI?

Collectors edition set shipping timeline?

I've seen a lot of people posting their standard and steelbook copies.
However I ordered to Collector's Edition from OrbitDVD, which show a date of June 19th for release.
I also saw someone mention here that the US didn't get the collector's edition.
Does it have a later release date? Is Orbit importing them? They are out of North Carolina.

I don't mind waiting another month after all this time, but if there is some weird shenanigans where my order might get canceled, I'd grab the standard disc over scalper priced steelbook. Hoping I'll just have it in a month though!

I'm selling something and accepted an offer. It said I could accept multiple offers and first to pay would get it. Only offer I've gotten but it was 2 days ago. I get they could not follow through. The same person was messaging me for an even lower price that I ignored, until I sent an offer to all watchers. They countered with $5 less which I accepted.

I just am not sure how to see if that offer is still valid to them - it doesn't show up anywhere under selling. If I check my offers it only shows ones I've made to sellers, not ones to me as a buyer.

If I view the chat history with this user, there's still 'view offer' buttons, but when they previously took me to the offer to accept it, they now say (number changed in case it is anything sensitive):
Can't reach this page.... www.ebay.comnull198728738163

I'd kind of like to block this person if their time to pay expired, but it was less than 72 hours ago. Does that offer even still exist?

I'm on Windows 11, on an ASUS ROG Gaming laptop.
When I connect or disconnect my dozens of USB devices (flash drives, SD adapters, controllers, mice, keyboards, Arduino, many many things), it makes the USB connect or disconnect sound as expected.
However, I have an Arkscan thermal printer I use for printing shipping labels. It has never made a sound when connecting or disconnecting to the USB port. It shows up when connected, and it works just fine. Why no USB sound for this one thing? It has been that way for about 2 years since I got the printer.
It's using a USB-A port and is USB 2.0, though those apply to many of my devices.

I've noticed as it has thrown me off a couple times, making me think I was missing something in an order. I can order a few things at once of the same category and forget which were grouped with each seller off the top of my head.
I've found for example when I'm getting 2 items from the same seller, the email subject says:
"OUT FOR DELIVERY: [First Item]... and 2 more item(s)"

However I get a box with 2 and am like what the hell got left out? Then I check eBay and it was indeed an order of only 2 items. I've learned to double check now, but it's confused me a couple times and is just weird for something as big as eBay...

And it isn't that another item from a different seller is out for delivery. When that is the case I get a second Out for Delivery email for the other order.

I'm just curious - is the standard Blu-ray included with the 4k, and the one being sold on its own going forward I'd assume - made from the new 4k master? Is it at least dual layer with lossless audio?

Given it has new special features listed, I'm guessing it is an all new disc. I just want to know if I can recommend buying a stand alone Blu to my friends without 4k, and if this will be a better disc to loan friends than the one I've had since release date on a single layer Blu.
