Curly hair temporary straightening tips?

So.... Accidently had a hair catastrophe and had to cut my hair REALLY short (above my shoulder 🥲). Short hair simply does not suit me even if its tied. If I let it open, in less than 15 mins I end up looking like Sai baba. Ive got a major function coming and I feel like the only option I have left is to do temporary straightening. Ive got a pretty good straightner at home and would prefer to use that instead of spending 1k at a beauty parlour.

So if there are any curly-girlies who occasionally do the straightening at home, what tips can you give me to make it look good and last atleast 5-6 hours? Product recommendations accepted as well.

How long did you wait before your next kid..?

Me and hubby were discussing having a second kid. I currently have an 11-month old. Before my first baby, my plan was to have a gap of atleast 3-4 years between each baby so that I dont get overwhelmed.

But, after I had my first, I feel like waiting is just stretching out the inevitable. Like, if I have the babies a bit closer to each other, atleast the "toddler-years" will rush by together. But if I delay it, Ill be re-living the toddler years every few years.

How long did you wait to have your next kid? And does it make a difference on how long you wait?

Laxatives for infant

My little 11 month old has been constipated on and off since we started solids. But now, its worsened to the point of blood in her stools. We met with her paed and he adviced laxative to be given for a week. I have started it coz I simply dont want my baby to suffer anymore. But Im worried that she's gonna get dependent on it, coz my MIL says that giving laxatives would stop the baby from going on her own. Mamas with constipated babies who used laxatives, please tell me this is untrue.

Late/Early Sleep

Late/ Early Sleep

LO is 10. 5 months. Her night time sleep has always started between 6.30-7.30pm (we made it a schedule since the day she was born) and wakes up for the day at around 6.30am. Her daytime naps are pretty haphazard coz I work and her grandma takes care of her in the morning.

Here's my question - If her first nap ends at 12.30pm, do I squeeze in a second nap between 2-4 and push the nightime sleep to 8pm or do I try to stretch the wake window till 6.pm and put her down earlier? I would like to continue her wakeup at 6.30am as that gives me time to spend a bit with her before going off to work.

Immersive adventure games on Android?

I recently finished Dredge on mobile. It's a bit more horror-ish than I usually play but I LOVED the mechanics. How you just reload at last save instead of dying and losing everything, the slow paced upgrades etc. So any suggestions of similar games? On Android mobile?

Ladies! Alternatives for gold.

Recommendarions for a simple chain with small pendant and simple gold stud earrings.

2 weeks back, I lost a ring while at home but only realised it a couple of hours later. By then, the maid had come, cleaned and left. It's evident she took it coz there's no other place it could be (I have a pic of my hand from that day morning coz I have a scar Im keeping an eye on, I searched the whole place top to bottom and noone other than my maid came by). This is the first time Im losing a piece of gold jewellery and I feel horrible.

Gold rate being the way it is, if I accidentally lose something again, chances are whoever finds it is gonna keep it. So, now I need something that doesnt look gold (so more chances of being returned), but doesnt fade quickly (coz Im lazy and I dont wanna remove and put it on every morning) and doesnt look tacky

SIADH and Antipsychotics

72/F - on treatment for Persistent Delusional Disorder, on Risperidone 3mg and Olanzapine 10mg. Psychiatrically stable but recurrent hyponatremia - hospitalisation atleast once every 2 months. Tried switching Olanzapine to Aripiprazole in the morning but that caused sleep disturbance and decreased appetite. Already adviced fluid restriction. Comorbid HTN and T2DM (well controlled). No other contributing causes for hyponatremia. Any advice?

Elderly woman and Panic attacks

I have an 80 year old woman who I previously treated for panic disorder (about 3 years back) precipitated by gradual blindness of one eye (due to cataract). She responded well to Sertraline and Clonazepam. Now, she's got a similar issue with her other eye and its clear that the blindness is inevitable and this time, its going to be total blindness. As soon as she started having panic attacks, I restarted her on Sertraline and Clonazepam. But sleep did not improve. So, I changed Clonazepam tor Zolpidem. 2 weeks later, when symptoms didnt improve, I hiked Sertraline. She was fine for about a month and then, the symptoms restarted again, along with somatization symptoms and sleep disturbance. She's already on therapy coz total blindness is not going to be a simple Adjustment d/o.

Opinion on starting her on Amitriptyline? I know its not FDA approved for panic attacks but clinically Ive seen improvement in a lot of patients.

Turns out, getting older is not so bad afterall!

I'm 32 years old, and it truly feels like a beautiful time to be alive.

I was born to strict Indian parents, so my childhood was almost every cliché rolled into one. Then came my 20s. I had opinions, dreams, and ideas, but I was constantly reminded, "You know nothing."

In my late 20s, I got married the typical Indian way—an arranged marriage, moving into my husband's home with my in-laws. What followed was another set of clichés: learning to adjust, changing my routines, adapting to new food habits, and giving up my job because it was too far from my new home. Losing my financial independence was hard.

Then COVID happened. The job recession left me feeling like I was under permanent house arrest.

About a year and a half ago, I finally started working again. I regained my financial freedom, and with it, a part of myself.

More recently, I had a baby. Motherhood has been exhausting in its own ways, and there are days it knocks me down. But somehow, I'm still thriving. I have a job. I can provide for my child. My family has slowly started listening to my suggestions and valuing my opinions because I'm no longer seen as "just a girl."

And honestly, the 30s are such a sweet spot.

I'm old enough to know what truly matters and young enough to enjoy it. I can still eat almost everything I love—just with a little more common sense than I had at 22. I have the freedom to step out, travel, meet friends, buy myself something nice without asking for permission, and make decisions that are entirely my own. I'm more confident saying "no" without feeling guilty and "yes" without worrying about what everyone else will think.

And the best part?

My heart still feels. I still get excited over small things. I still laugh too loudly, cry during movies, look forward to birthdays, and believe that good things are still ahead. Somewhere along the way, I was told that aa you age, life hardens you and your heart turns to stone.

I hope that's not true.

Because if this is what 32 feels like, I can't wait to see what the rest of this decade has in store.

White-skin privilege vs Pretty privilege.. Which has a bigger impact?

I'm someone who doesn't really benefit from either. I'm dark-skinned in a society that often favors lighter skin, and I'm not conventionally attractive either. On my best day, Im maybe a 6/10. I've spent most of my life feeling invisible while watching other people receive noticeably better treatment, whether because they were considered attractive, light-skinned, or both.

For people who've experienced one, both, or neither:

  1. Which privilege do you think has the greater impact on everyday life?

  2. Does pretty privilege outweigh colorism, or does lighter skin amplify pretty privilege even more?

I'm not trying to start an argument or rank people's struggles. I'm just interested in hearing different perspectives because, from my own experience, it's difficult to separate the effects when you've never really had either.

Which district is the most challenging to drive in?

I started my driving journey in Thrissur and it was pretty uncomplicated. Edakk oro vedakkukal vannaalum, it was generally placid.

After that, I went to Trivandrum and it was UTTER CHAOS! Ill be driving peacefully and then "Dheeee oru scooter ammavan kudhich keri varunnu" "ammachiyeee ee bus-inu entha nere odichaal".. And then they have the audacity to look at you like YOU're the issue. I mean.. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Now, since the last one year, I've been in Ernakulam. Sure, the roads are filled with cars and kure kuthi ketum but there's still a basic order to things (in my opinion). Its like the people here actually know how to drive.

Everyone used to tell me "Ernakulam drive cheythaal, driving padikum coz its that tough". But for me, Trivandrum was waaaay more challenging.

What about you?

When did your baby stop gagging on food?

LO is 8 months and she gags on most of the food items, except for the really runny type porridges. Even though she gags, she ofcourse gets through it and swallows (Bless her little heart) but it always puts the feeling of dread in me. People who do BLW definitely have a special set of guts coz noway I could ever be strong enough to do that!
