Pet playpen at airports

Has anybody tried bringing a pet playpen with them for air travel and was able to use it during layovers? Have you seen anybody do that or know if its allowed? It'd be such a good way to give food, litter box etc. During transit.

Dog relocation from USA to India - Aug 2026

Folks,
Sharing my experience here to spread the goodwill that I received from someone when I needed.

I recently relocated from Los Angeles to Chennai, India and had to relocate my GSP who’s on the bigger side of sizing. Sharing my experience so folks can through this mind bending stage which rather ended up quiet simpler.

Case: Large GSP from LAX to India.

  1. So measure the pet correctly, references are available. Very important to get the height, nose to base of tail and leg length, correct. This would be checked again by the pet shipper or cargo folks. So you don’t want to end up on the wrong side.

  2. Pay special attention to the additional space/gap requirements lengthwise and height wise.

In my case, I was hoping to get the large pet kennel but it was borderline undersized for him. You might think that you’d be able to persuade the agents to let the pet travel but I would advise against that. Go with the next best option instead of too close or undersize.

I had to cough up PP100 that automatically moved me into cargo territory. I was hoping that I could get away with additional cargo but my dog had other plans.

  1. My dog had the rabies shot well ahead of time ( before a month of travel) and another shot, the year before. But one shot was done before microchipping.so I decided to have an add it so shot of rabies recorded in the microchip before the travel month.

This also allowed me to request CDC form for importing him back into the States from the latest rabies shot date instead of Jan. So this kind of gave me extra room to bring him back.

  1. USDA certification is real and needs proper attention. Contact your vet if the can do this or refer to another hospital who does this. Mine did not and sent me to another one. Pick the one who eagerly communicate and available for calls or spooky Mets freely as you’d need them towards the traveler date.

We setup a main checkup during the last month but an additional quick checkup in the 10 days window to satisfy guidelines.

OUR USDA cert came in 7 days and CDC same timeline.

  1. Since we used cargo, IAG British Airways let shipper, I connected with them throughout the process.

Main points here are: crate dimensions and volume and max weight.

Some airports have weight limitations that would prevent you from flying your pet out.

Ex/ LAX has 64/65 kgs limit (Pet plus Crate weight) and if it exceeds, I will have to send my pet out from SFO. Totally unplanned but luckily my pet and crate came to 60.

  1. Ask the cargo folks to confirm airway bill details draft with shipper and sender name accurately, pet name, breed, weight, microchip number, date of birth, sex. Your Indian agent s would ideally help you out with what info you need to be have on AWB, USDACertificaiton. It’s important to have this right for a smooth customs process in India.

I decided to take care of the document prepping process myself in the US. I outsourced only the India Import agent part.

  1. I used Furry Flyers and can’t thank them enough for amazing support all the way from start to end.

They supported the information needed fork USDA, Airway bill, other docs, vaccination certificates check and everything you would need.

Their in the ground support was even more amazing. Only had to go to the pickup spot in the cargo office with my passport. They took care of everything and took care of my pet like theirs. Sent in regular updates about whereabouts, their local folks contacted me the day before pet’s arrival to share all the info. I couldn’t be happier and thank the Gods for stumbling upon them in my search for Import support into India.

  1. On the day of flight, have the same documents- 1. Rabies, DHTP, USDA, Airway bill draft and India NOC draft (your agent would share them befor flying). We took these to LAX loading hub and they they took my pet in 30-60
Mins of paper signing work, same stuff as in the airway bill and payments. Nothing new.

Be wary if let drop off cut off time as we barely made it on time. Our flights were on the same time as my pett’s and got too close. They check the papers, measure the pet and crate and done.

  1. Diffferent countries had different layover rules about the minimum hours pets need before boarding the next flight. UK had 4 hours minimum so we weren’t able to get him on to the connecting flight the same day. The cargo team in UK did Ana amazing job in caring for my dog during the day layover before getting him on to the next day flight. I was able to call them and knowboout his welfare. They shared pic updates too.

  2. On the day of arrival, I already was contacted by my FurryFlyer/Anvis team about where and when to be. It’s roughly 2 hours after landing and they’ll require you to come with your passport and collect.
In my case, they even helped to arrange a bigger van for my big dog and his crate.

After landing, in a day or two, they shared the final NOC from Indian government that ended the prt import process. Successfully.

Happy to share further snd answer Qs if you PM me. I only know of US to India import but can potentially help others with any from my experience.

EU Based Pet Nanny, In Cabin Pet Couriers, or Accompanied Pet Transporters

I'm really struggling to work our travel logistics within Europe for myself and my two small dogs, and I'm hoping someone can help with a professional service or individual reference.

I'm planning an extended European trip later this year. Getting to Europe with my dogs is feasible, if expensive, since United allows for a passenger to fly with two pets so long as they buy two tickets and pay the fees. I'll be staying in Lisbon for a couple of months. But I need to transition out of the Schengen zone eventually to not run afoul of the 90/180 day tourist visa rule. Larnaka, Cyprus or Bar, Montenegro seem to be the best options at the moment for this. But finding transit options so far has been very difficult. As far as I can tell, no airline within the EU allows one passenger to fly with two pets in cabin, unless they fit into a single carrier, which my dogs do not. I can't bring myself to put them in the hold as they aren't used to traveling and they are older. There aren't any other options to travel to Larnaka besides flying. Getting to Bar, Montenegro is at least possible by train/ferry but the trip feels way to long for two dogs to be in carriers over the course of several days.

The only other option I can think of is to pay someone to accompany me on the flights. Has anyone used a company or individual service provider in Europe for such a service? I see a few options online that might be able to help, but I haven't found any options that specifically advertises what I'm looking for and I've never used a company for something like this, so I'm a little lost. Likely the trip from Lisbon to either Larnaka or Bar would happen in December or January, with travel back to Lisbon likely in February or March. Dates are still being worked out.

Flying your pets from Costa Rica to Seattle this fall — a step by step breakdown of the Houston stop, what happens at each point, and why the process is completely different on a private pet charter

If you are planning to fly from Costa Rica to the Pacific Northwest with pets this fall, the routing you are going to encounter on almost every commercial option goes through Houston. Understanding what happens at each point in that journey — on a commercial flight versus a private in-cabin pet charter — is the difference between a smooth trip and a nightmare.

This is that breakdown.

The routing: San Jose → Houston → Seattle

This is the most efficient routing from Costa Rica to the Pacific Northwest. San Jose to Houston is approximately 4 hours. Houston to Seattle is approximately 4.5 hours. Total journey time with a comfortable connection is roughly 10–11 hours gate to gate.

On paper it is straightforward. In practice, for pet owners, the Houston stop is where most of the problems happen.

What the Houston stop looks like on a commercial flight

At San Jose departure — SJO
If your pet qualifies for cabin travel (under 20lbs, not a restricted breed) you check in at the commercial terminal and join the general boarding queue. Your pet goes under the seat in front of you in a soft carrier. This works fine for small pets.

If your dog is over 20lbs or a restricted breed — you have no commercial cabin option. Civilian cargo has been suspended on Delta, United, and American. You are out of options before you start.

The Houston connection — IAH
For small pets in cabin: you deplane, clear customs if required, and reboard your connection. Your pet stays with you throughout.

For cargo pets on the carriers that still accept them: your pet is unloaded from the cargo hold by ground handlers at IAH, transferred to a cargo facility, held during your connection, reloaded onto the next aircraft. In August, Houston regularly hits temperatures that trigger the 85°F embargo — meaning your pet can be pulled from the connection flight due to ground temperature with no guarantee of rebooking and no refund on the pet fee.

Seattle arrival — SEA
Cabin pets arrive with you at baggage claim. Cargo pets arrive separately through cargo claims — sometimes 30–60 minutes after your luggage, sometimes longer.

What the Houston stop looks like on Fur Family Flight

We have a confirmed departure from San Jose, Costa Rica to Seattle, Washington on September 12th with a Houston stop en route. Here is exactly what happens at each point.

San Jose departure — private FBO
You do not go to the commercial terminal at SJO. You arrive at a private FBO. No queues. No commercial check-in. No crowded departure halls stressing your pets before they even board. You and your pets check in together and board a Phenom 300 private jet.

Your pets are in the cabin with you from the moment you board. Not in a carrier under a seat — in the cabin, with space, with you.

The Houston stop — private FBO
The Phenom 300 lands at a private FBO in Houston. This is a fuel and passenger stop. Your pets do not leave the aircraft or leave your side. There is no cargo transfer. There are no ground handlers touching your animals. There is no embargo risk because your pets are never in the hold. The 85°F rule does not apply to us — ever.

You have time to stretch, use the FBO facilities, and reboard. The entire stop typically takes 45–60 minutes. Then you continue to Seattle.

Seattle arrival — private FBO
You arrive at a private terminal in Seattle. No baggage carousel. No cargo claims. No waiting. Your pets walk off the aircraft with you.

The documentation difference

Commercial: You are responsible for coordinating your health certificate with your vet, getting it endorsed by USDA APHIS within the correct timing window, and ensuring Costa Rica exit requirements are met. If anything is wrong at the gate you do not fly.

Fur Family Flight: We send you a complete documentation checklist as soon as your deposit is confirmed. We tell you exactly when to schedule your vet appointment, which APHIS office to use, and what the inspector at SJO will look for. Health certificates, USDA endorsements, parasite treatment timing — we manage the entire process. You show up with the documents we told you to bring and everything is in order.

Club Med Charlevoix : bring your pet?

I want to weigh in on my experience : Club Med Charlevoix, Qc had a sale. We thought we could bring our pet as the advert indicated we could and pets would be welcomed.
Here is the lowdown on this aspect of "pets welcomed" experience.

  1. even if you book and indicate you are bringing a pet; you need to make an additional call to VERIFY if the allocated-pet- rooms are available. [ For
    Us we were told/ informed
    There were none!]
  2. there are so many signs ( ironic? ) dogs not allowed on the grass; terrace areas
Etc so were is the whole " bring your pet! They are welcomed! We welcome your furry family member" - my question is where? Are they to just stay in the room? * are they even allowed to stay in the room alone? What if they bark because its a strange environment?

I was baffled and just wanted to point out that their language is MISLEADING ( attached some
Of the advert from
clubmed)

Best airline for pet to travel with

My partner and I adopted a kitten on our last trip to Mexico whilst visiting their family. We had planned to bring our fur baby back with us, but she was too young to be brought in-cabin. We don’t know the next time we’ll be able to visit, so I wanted to find out which airline you guys recommend to ship her to us in the US from Mexico?

Thank you so much in advance for the help!

Edit: country in Asia will be Thailand

Flying Iberia. Carrier question! 🙏🙏🙏

Has anyone used this Petsfit carrier with Iberia?

Hi everyone! I’m flying with my toy poodle and was wondering whether anyone has travelled with this particular Petsfit carrier.

Its dimensions are 47 × 31 × 24 cm, so it is 2 cm longer than Iberia’s stated 45 cm limit, although the total dimensions are still within their maximum of 105 cm.

I do have another carrier that is within the allowed measurements, but it is noticeably smaller because I haven’t been able to find one that matches Iberia’s limits exactly. My dog is much more comfortable in this larger one, especially for a long flight, so I would really prefer to use it if possible.

Has anyone successfully flown with this carrier on Iberia? I’d also really appreciate it if people could share which carriers they have personally used and had accepted.

Thank you so much for any advice or experiences! 😊

Pet relocation - how to minimize stress?

Hello everyone!

We have a 5 year old domestic short hair cat with an orange kitten personality lol

She is very vocal and active, likes to explore and climb everything, absolutely hates her crate, is very territorial and protective towards us, and most importantly: has never travelled more than 2h (by car).

The problem is that my husband received an amazing opportunity and now we have to relocate our family, which is going to include an 8h flight + 3h by train (best option we found so far), and I’m running out of my mind thinking what’s going to be the best way to travel with her and how to minimize her stress so she doesn’t get herself ill or something like that.

Please let me know if you have a similar experience. Any advice is welcome!

Denver to Rome

Flying Denver to Rome, Italy, with a 36 lbs dog as excess baggage on Lufthansa via Frankfurt. We are 7 days now from takeoff and the forecast is saying temps in the high 90s in Denver that day. Will Lufthansa refuse to check him in? Cannot get a straight answer by calling Lufthansa. Has anyone flown on Lufthansa from Denver during this heat wave and it worked out?

Overseas relocation for work, should I take my dog or leave him?

A work opportunity is taking my partner and me overseas for about 11–12 months, and I’m really torn about whether to bring our almost two year old rescue dog (Staffy mix, ~45 lbs).

Initially it was a no-brainer, he’s my soul dog, incredibly bonded to me, and I love him to bits. But I’m trying to make the decision based on what’s best for him, not me.

The flight is only 3 hours each way, but he’d have to travel in the cargo hold. Thankfully there’s no quarantine.

He’s a very well-trained, sweet dog, but he can be a little anxious in unfamiliar situations. That mostly shows up as pulling on the leash when he’s overwhelmed, and he’s growled a handful of times when strangers got into his space too quickly. Once he settles, he’s gentle and friendly.

Right now we live very near beaches and hiking trails and spend a lot of time outdoors together. We’d be moving to a similar climate, but living more in the city, potentially in an apartment (we currently are in a small flat but with a small garden). He’d still get daily walks (likely at a dog park), but beach and hiking trips would be less frequent.

My in-laws adore him and have offered to look after him for the year. He loves them too. One concern is that I know they won’t uphold any of his training (they lost their dog recently and she was the naughtiest girl who had never been trained, bless her) so I am worried some of his obedience would slip.

Transport would cost about US$2.5k each way, but cost isn’t really the deciding factor. If he stayed behind, we’d probably use that money to visit home more often (we’d likely still be back every 6 weeks regardless).

I know cargo flights can be stressful, and I’m struggling to work out whether putting him through two flights is worth it for a relocation that’s only around a year.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? If you were in my shoes, would you take him or leave him with family? I just want to make the decision that’s best for him.

1,300+ flights delayed or cancelled in one day this week. If your pet was booked in cargo, here's what actually happens.

https://preview.redd.it/bsflrmdyideh1.jpg?width=1030&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9e8e18038081393d8962bb0a6825e2fd1c244122

This week's mass disruption in the Middle East (1,200+ delays, ~190 cancellations in a single day) got me thinking about a part of flight cancellations nobody talks about: what happens to the animals.

When your flight cancels and you're rebooked, you go sit at a gate or a hotel. Your dog in cargo doesn't. Here's the part most people learn the hard way:

Your pet's booking doesn't automatically follow yours. Cargo space is booked separately from your seat. Getting rebooked on the next flight does not mean there's a pet slot on it — those are limited per aircraft, and after a mass cancellation event, every displaced pet is competing for them.

Heat and weather embargoes stack on top. If your rebooked flight departs midday in summer, many airlines won't load animals at all. Your new itinerary can be one you can't actually use.

Extended holds happen at cargo facilities, not gates. During long delays, animals wait in the cargo handling area. Some facilities are climate-controlled and well-run. Some are a warehouse. You generally can't get to them, and staff won't always tell you which kind you're dealing with.

Connections are where it breaks. A delay that costs you a connection can strand a cargo pet at an intermediate airport under a different handler than the one you dealt with at origin.

What actually helps, from people who've been through it:

  1. Book direct flights whenever a pet is involved, even when it costs more. Nearly every cargo horror story involves a connection.
  2. Get the airline's live animal desk phone number before travel day — not the general line. If things go wrong, minutes matter and the regular rebooking agents can't see cargo.
  3. Photograph your pet, the crate, and all paperwork at drop-off.
  4. Know your alternatives before you need them. Ground transport for domestic, pet-specific charters for routes where cargo is the only commercial option. Expensive, but knowing the fallback exists changes the decisions you make under pressure.
  5. If a rebooking puts your pet on a different flight than you, refuse it and escalate. You are allowed to insist on traveling on the same aircraft.

Hoping nobody here ever needs this thread. But this week was a reminder that mass disruptions happen with zero notice, and the system's default treatment of animals during them is "freight."

Traveling with our dog (from USA) has been pretty good

We brought a small dog to Italy from the United States. We wanted to leave him with family but couldn't , so we took him. He has been with us for three weeks and although I can't really ask him how it has been for him...I do believe we have managed to take good care of him, even in this insane heat, and he has not seemed anxious except in Milan, mostly because my wife and I got lost.

Italians by far have either been at least neutral or all the way up to excited and welcoming when they see him. A really funny moment happened today, a boat captain of ferry in Cinque Torre kept petting and talking to him in Italian in a loving way. We have a ventilated bag that he sits in under the table at restaurants, and we don't take him at all into churches or museums. We have been checking the pavement for heat too. In the Dolomites he hiked a lot with us and he has been with us in hotels, on ferries, taxis, and trains: alll allowed. I had a lot of worries, but it has worked out, If you are thinking of doing it..Italy is a good place. One warning: start the paperwork early, it is a lot.

Flying from Florida to Cancun with pets — in-cabin private flight, no lines, no stress, 2.5 hour trip

If you are in Florida and trying to get to Cancun with your pets this August — this post is for you.

Commercial airlines from Florida to Cancun either ban large dogs from the cabin, restrict you to one small pet per passenger, or push your animals to cargo. For a flight that is only 2.5 hours that is a lot of unnecessary stress for you and your pets.

We are putting together a dedicated in-cabin pet flight from Florida to Cancun in the first week of August. Your pets fly in the cabin with you on a private aircraft — no commercial terminal, no long lines, no chaos before you even board. A calm private FBO lounge, a smooth boarding process, and a 2.5 hour flight to Mexico with your whole family together.

Why this route makes sense:

Florida to Cancun is one of the shortest international pet flights available. At 2.5 hours it is genuinely one of the easiest ways to get your pets to Mexico — shorter than many domestic flights and with none of the commercial airline restrictions that make larger routes so complicated.

What is included:

  • All pets in the cabin with you — no cargo, no size limits, no breed bans
  • Private FBO departure — no commercial terminal, no TSA lines
  • Up to 6 passengers and 5 pets per flight
  • Documentation guidance included — Mexico health certificate and customs requirements handled
  • 75lbs luggage per person (you can add more if needed)
  • Starting at $7,999 for 1 passenger + 1 pet

Mexico pet documentation:
Health certificate issued within 10 days of travel, current rabies vaccination, and internal and external parasite treatment. We guide you through every document as part of your booking.

If Florida to Cancun in August works for your timeline — reach out and let us know. We are building this flight around confirmed interest.

In-cabin pet flight White Plains New York to Querétaro Mexico September 10 — cats and small pets welcome private FBO departure

For anyone in the New York metropolitan area planning to relocate or travel to Mexico with pets in September — posting this as an option most people do not know exists.

Commercial airlines from White Plains Westchester Airport to Mexico either do not service the route directly or restrict pets to cargo or one small pet per passenger in the cabin. For anyone traveling with two or more cats or wanting all pets in the cabin together, the commercial options are extremely limited.

We have a dedicated in-cabin pet flight departing from White Plains (HPN — Signature Aviation) to Querétaro, Mexico on September 10th.

Flight details:

  • Departure: White Plains, NY (HPN) — Signature Aviation HPN West, 85 Tower Rd West Harrison NY
  • Destination: Querétaro, Mexico (QRO)
  • Date: September 10, 2026
  • Capacity: Up to 9 passengers and 8 pets per flight — all in-cabin
  • Starting at $5,999 for 1 passenger + 2 pets

Why White Plains over JFK or EWR: For pet owners in Westchester, Connecticut, and surrounding areas, White Plains is significantly more accessible than the major New York airports. The Signature Aviation FBO at HPN means a private terminal — no commercial airport chaos, no crowd stress for your pets before the flight.

September timing advantage: September bookings give you comfortable lead time for Mexico pet documentation — health certificate issued within 10 days of travel, rabies vaccination, and parasite treatment records. Starting the vet process in late August keeps everything within the required window.

In-cabin pet flight San Diego to Costa Rica June 30 — large dogs and multiple pets welcome no cargo

For anyone in Southern California researching how to fly internationally with large dogs or multiple pets — this post is for you.

Commercial airlines out of San Diego to Costa Rica will not take large dogs in the cabin. Cargo is the alternative they offer — but summer cargo embargoes triggered by 85°F ground temperatures are already hitting San Diego and Southern California. If temperatures hit that threshold on your departure date your pet does not fly. No warning. No refund.

We have a dedicated in-cabin pet flight departing from San Diego to Liberia, Costa Rica on June 30th.

Flight details:

  • Departure: San Diego, CA (SAN) — Signature Aviation private FBO
  • Destination: Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR)
  • Date: June 30, 2026
  • Capacity: Up to 9 passengers and 8 pets per flight — all in-cabin
  • Starting at $5,999 for 1 passenger + 2 pets

Summer embargo risk in San Diego: Ground temperatures in San Diego regularly exceed the 85°F cargo embargo threshold in late June. In-cabin pet flights are not subject to this restriction — your pets are never in cargo, so the temperature rule that grounds commercial pet cargo does not apply to us.

Costa Rica pet documentation: USDA-endorsed health certificate issued within 14 days of travel, current rabies vaccination, and parasite treatment within 15 days. No breed bans apply in Costa Rica. We guide you through all documentation as part of your booking.

Flying with pets from Denver to Costa Rica July 2026 — in-cabin private flight no cargo embargo risk

For Colorado pet owners planning travel or relocation to Costa Rica this summer — the commercial airline situation in Denver is worth understanding before you book.

Large dogs are banned from the cabin on all major international routes out of Denver. Cargo is the only commercial option — and summer cargo embargoes triggered by 85°F ground temperatures hit Colorado in July regularly. Denver summers frequently exceed that threshold, meaning your pet's cargo booking can be cancelled with no warning on the day of your flight.

We have a dedicated in-cabin pet flight departing Denver to Costa Rica on July 11th.

Flight details:

  • Departure: Denver, CO (DEN) — Private FBO
  • Destination: Costa Rica (SJO)
  • Date: July 11, 2026
  • Capacity: Up to 9 passengers and 8 pets per flight — all in-cabin
  • No cargo embargo risk — pets never in the hold
  • Starting at $5,999 for 1 passenger + 2 pets

Colorado to Costa Rica — common questions:

Can I fly my large dog to Costa Rica from Denver? Yes — on a dedicated in-cabin pet flight. Not on a commercial airline.

Does the 85°F cargo embargo affect Denver flights in July? Yes — Denver regularly hits this threshold in summer. In-cabin pet flights are not affected.

What documentation do I need for Costa Rica? USDA-endorsed health certificate within 14 days, rabies vaccination, parasite treatment within 15 days. No breed bans. We guide you through the full process.
