How was Henry Francis able to afford such a huge house on a government salary?

He works for the NY Mayor? Governor? Whatever it is

I know it’s not the same thing but I used to live in DC and had friends who worked for members of Congress or even the White House and they all for the most part lived in apartments lol

My point is, a gov job usually doesn’t give you such a luxurious lifestyle to afford a huge 2 story house in the suburbs of NYC

If you accuse somebody of a crime to the police, how do the police decide whether or not to arrest the person if it’s merely a “he said she said” situation with no corroborating evidence?

Any viable way to transition from Tax Resolution Attorney to corporate in-house?

Data privacy is my passion but I’m having a hard time finding an “in” into the area in the job market. Even if I can’t get that, I just wanna do some kind of corporate in-house work.

Did any of your careers not go the way you wanted? E.g. you graduated with a specific plan to do XYZ, but for whatever reason, were never able to accomplish said goal?

How often do you stay past 5 or 6 (depending on when your firm closes)???

I’m a first year tax attorney (non litigation) and I close my laptop everyday right at 5 when my official “closing time” is.

Nobody has ever asked me (yet) to work late or anything, but I guess sometimes I feel guilty shutting down right at 5.

I’m fully remote if that makes a difference

Can I wear this burgundy polo with black chinos? The sleeve and waistline appear to have a navy blue line on it... I know black and navy blue tend to clash, but I wasn't sure if it matters in this small of an amount.

Can you live in a 1 bedroom in Los Angeles on 85K a year? No debt and no car payments btw

Considering moving to LA next year with my remote job. No debt and no car paid off. Make $85K a year. Wanna live in a decent neighborhood in an apartment with appliances that aren’t from the 70’s😅

EDIT: I’m also a gay man so I’d like to be not too far from West Hollywood

Moving across the country with a remote attorney position

Currently based in the Midwest with a remote attorney position I can do anywhere, looking to move to SoCal in the next year or two… would it be a bad idea to move to SoCal with my remote job without being bar licensed in CA?

I could always keep my current job while living out there, but my concern is if I wanna change jobs or if I lose my current job (for whatever reason), I imagine it would become 10x harder to find another attorney position in CA if I wasn’t barred there.

Long term, I wanna go in-house, which in CA at least doesn’t require you to be licensed in CA, as long as you’re licensed in A state… but I currently work in Tax Law so who knows if I could even get an in-house role with tax law experience

Can anyone speak to being in a similar position? Should I get barred in CA first before making a move out there? Even if my current job allows me to work there without being barred there

Any recommendations for LGBT lawyer groups/associations?

I am a first year attorney and also gay and am hoping to join an LGBT-oriented attorney organization. Any recommendations?

I live in Chicago and we have a local LGBT attorney association, but other than my local, big city bar association, do you folks have any other suggestions for bar associations or attorney associations for gay attorneys?

30 y/o first year asssociate... Always dreamed of joining the Navy. Debating if I should do it now. Not sure if I could even get into JAG

For the last decade or so I've wanted to join the navy but just... Didn't for various reasons. I almost joined as a naval officer after college but chose to go to law school instead. Knowing what I know now, i would've done both! Navy first then law school

I still daydream about it but worry about how joining my affect my future career prospects. I know JAG is SUPER competitive to get into. Not sure if I even could get in. If i choose to just go the Naval Officer route, NOT as a JAG, would that negatively affect my career prospects as an attorney to leave the practice of law for 4 years and then try to come back in after? if I do manage to get JAG, will it affect my career prospects after 4 years as a JAG?

Car in my parking garage doesn’t pull in fully, making it very difficult to reverse park across from him.

I kinda wanna leave a note on his windshield asking him to pull in further because look how far he sticks out compared to other cars in the lot as well as the yellow lines!

Just started my first attorney job a month ago, and while I do have around 5 clients so far, I don't have enough work to fill an 8 hour day... Is that normal?

I just started my first attorney job about 4 weeks ago. Remote and with no billable requirement. It's a midsized firm so I get about 1-2 new clients a week, but as it currently stands I only have about 5-6 clients total, which is fine, but it also means I don't have enough work to fill an 8 hour day...

Is that normal? Like I just wanna make sure that I am not doing something wrong. Since it's remote, I am not at a physical office, and I just spend good portions of the day just sitting around my apartment, which is fine for now I suppose.

I also work in tax law if that matters.

If the other person initiates no contact, how long do you think is appropriate before trying to reach out yourself? A year? 2 years? 5 years? Or should you really never reach out and let them be the one to reach out if they so choose?

Passed F26 UBE on my 3rd try (287 score), I kind of want to take the CA Bar Exam J27... You think its a bad idea while balancing a full time job?

For what its worth, my job is strictly 40 hours a week with no overtime, weekends, or billable hour requirement. My attorney job is also fully remote.

It's been a dream of mine to live in CA since I was a kid. And while my current attorney job is remote, I still want to take the CA bar exam so I can be fully licensed in CA.

I want to start studying sooner than later just so that I don't have to cram as the J27 exam gets closer.

Some lawyer friends around me have been suggesting i should wait till J28 in hopes that CA adopts the NextGen bar exam, but I would rather take the exam sooner when the knowledge is still fresh in my mind.

Any insight or tips are appreciated.

Is it normal to feel like you have no idea what you're doing and no idea what's going on as a first year associate?

Just started my first lawyer job a few weeks ago... Is it normal to feel like I have no clue what I'm doing and no clue how to do anything, and no clue what's going on at my firm?

Everyone is very nice and supportive, so no one has yelled or reprimanded me in any way. Everyone seems very supportive and helpful and willing to offer a helping hand to each other, even among senior attorneys in relation to one another... Just wanted to make sure that this feeling I am feeling is normal and not a cause for concern lol

If it helps to provide context, I work in tax law with zero prior tax law experience. My job is also fully remote with no billable requirement.
