Sonoran Bridgesii Backstory! 🌵

I wanted to share this small clip from my cactus walkthrough video on YouTube.
We have been getting a lot of questions lately about a new clone being released called the Sonoran Bridgesii. The video expands a lot on the origin story. But TLDR: He was a Bridgesii that was found growing in the wild of the Sonoran Desert covered in flower buds. There’s only a handful of these guys circulating currently but that’s going to change this upcoming year. So keep your eyes peeled for this little slice of the Sonoran Desert that you can have in your garden.
I’m happy to answer any questions in the chat I would be happy to fill in any gaps in knowledge that I can; don’t be shy! I’m thrilled to share the story with you guys and I hope everyone’s having an amazing Friday! 3 day weekend for the win!!!!!

Will this guy take full sun PHX, AZ?

He has grown the first couple of years with the house shading him around 2pm. But it’s getting so tall now this will be its first summer where it will get direct sun at the top until 4-5pm. Will it continue with our heat? Or is it going to die back to the shade?

Are those Psychedelic Puffballs?

Nope! That’s just what “B-Xtra” looks like when it’s ready to harvest.
Due to how insanely dense they are the caps begin to look like someone is ID-ing puffball mushrooms. They have a solid-marshmallow like interior, but they do have small stems with gills, and they bruise very blue as they age. These two traits can always reassure a wary hunter that these are cubes and not puffballs.

Love this strain having a very fun time pheno hunting with it.

“Maui Wowie” Landrace Producing a Couple Silver Caps. Isolating it now 🤞

I don’t know if I have ever seen silver caps like this, you can even see stripes of normal pigments on the cap, but it’s almost all silver. Let me know if you have seen anything like this yourself. Or if you think it’s something else and not genetic? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

The original spores came from the wild out in Maui. I always jump at the opportunity to work with wild spores. Working with wild spores you can get some new interesting genetic material worked into the community.

“Maui Wowie” is a landrace we have, but I’m hoping to get a couple of vigorous strains out of it. Most cubes people get have been inbred with each other for almost a decade. I like working with landraces because it’s like setting that inbreeding clock back. I feel like we need some fresh genetics circulating, so when breeders make crosses we have a larger pool of healthy genetics to select from.

Let me know what you think this could be and if you have any cool name ideas for a silver mushroom.

“Silver Streaks on my Dick Envy” was my idea first, before anyone starts claiming that in the comments!

Cactus revival *UPDATE* swipe right to see growth.

After roughly 21 straight days of soaked soil (some days water pooled at the top the soil was so saturated and I let it ride. He has officially rebounded and soaked up a ton of water.
Initially he pushed out roots quickly, the first 3 days I could see them on the side of the cup (pic 3). Despite the new roots it wouldn’t soak any water up into the tissue. Parts of the ribs even started to die off due to lack of water. Which shows how close to death this guy truly was. I think another month of neglect and he would have died for sure. Despite the tissue drying up and dying the roots kept growing at an enormous rate which gave me a lot of hope.
By week 2 his roots were touching the bottom of the cup and spread all over (pic 5), he still looked very dehydrated and the tissue was still close to death. However the roots were still extremely healthy. I just kept him wet until finally yesterday he soaked all the water into his tissue.
Most of it happened at once, he was from very squishy to rock solid through the cactus. All within a single night, maybe 2 at most. There is now fresh growth on the top, and all of the tissue looks like it could survive another year of neglect (if I was mean).
Going to let his soil fully dry out for the first time in 3 weeks and repot into a normal pot for outside. He was recovering inside (had a week above 100) so he will need to slowly acclimate with a shade cloth. I’m just glad he made it, and thank you all for following along. I’m hoping this post will serve as a testament to how resilient these guys really are, they can handle more than you think (more than I thought originally). It was a fun experiment, and I will be saving another one who’s even closer to death next! Check comments to see.

Think he will be fine? Or should I do something?

Or is the damage already done and I shouldn’t worry?
Worried about the pup being restricted by the pot and if that may have future issues when it gets bigger and adds weight to that arm.

$33 🛸’d TPQC 10”

Love TPQC I have several stands, and it still hurts me to cut them. This guy was hitting the roof of the shade cloth so he had to go.
They get very blue and are prolific growers even for San Pedro standards. This cutting is very plump and well hydrated, ready to ship and root quickly!

The best gloves for long torn cactus!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the cacti mothers! I hope you all have a great day.
I made this video because of how often I get asked or see people asking about gloves that are torn proof. Or for gloves that can handle extremely large thorns over 2inches.

Most people have heard of True Albino Teachers or TAT and its mutants. Well back when we started spores the 2 most popular varieties BY FAR were Golden Teacher and B+. After the original mutant craze, sparked mainly by TAT. Its co-conspirator B+ (pronounced “be positive”) has been slowly fading away from the lime light.
🚨🙅‼️WELL NO LONGER! 🚨🙅‼️
Here in the depths of the Sonoran Spores labs one of our scientists “Quest” cooked up something special for you all. A true Albino variant of B+! That’s right, not leucistic, but a true albino B+ we named “B-Xtra”! It has clear spores to indicate true albinism. We have ISO LC’s of it but, this is a true strain meaning the spores will produce more albino’s.

While B-Xtra is an isolate from B+, the specimens can bear a resemblance to Penis Envy with their very thick stems, especially with their smaller than average cap size. Just another thing that makes them unique 😊. It does have ellipse shaped spores and they are present on a 4-spored basidia. Spores are approximately 13x8 micometers in size. And best of all spores are transparent 🔬🫧.

Please be nice to the new kid on the block we worked hard on him😅. Feel free to ask questions if you have them, thank you for your time!

$10 each seedling and you can grab as many as 6-7 with shipping remaining around $5. So hypothetically if you get 5 it will be around $55 total. Love all of these guys but I need to make room for the next generation.

All seedling are at least 2 years old and grown in shade cloth sun. Zelle and CC’s accepted.

Here’s the genetics:
A & E - Colossus X MP Scop —Misplant 0998
B & D - Dr G. Scop X (Super Pedro x J3) —Misplant 1133
C - Bonnie X Blue 3 — Misplant 0896
F & H & I & J - Peru Clyde X Peru Rosei — Misplant 1147
G - Dr G Scop X SS02 — Misplant 1078
