Do any subgenres on reddit like their mainstream artists?

As a trance and DnB fan it's nothing but shitting on Tiesto in trance spaces and shitting on Worship in DnB spaces.

Does this happen in every subgenre? Or are specifically trance and DnB fans more pretentious?

The special stages this Gayo Daejeon summer were kind of bad

There were 2 5th gen crossover stages at the Gayo Daejeon summer. They were kind of meh. 4th gen was much better at this (the Izone members basically all went to permanent crossover stages, and look how that has gone).

Babymonster going right after the Blackpink cover was kind of jarring with how much Babymonster was better at performing

Why is the terminal 8 to airtrain walk so fucking bad?

Just ridiculously long and lots of bottlenecks where slow assholes can slow you down

Single elim with BO7 is just better

This format is just so much more enjoyable to me. I like how it's more straightforward and every game matters a lot. I also like how you don't repeat opponents and people just keep moving on. Makes it feel more epic.

I know some upset cheese can happen, but that's one of the best parts of sports.

BO7 helps take away some of the cheese too.

Egregious math mistake in EWC rulebook

Shoutout u/Utubedetective for pointing this out in their write up. I wanted to make a dedicated post about it to bring more attention to this specifically.

Basically, this formula uses multiplication with * instead of addition with +.

The effect of this is that: any of these mode values being 0 will make the entire WQQ 0.

If you go 3-1 3-1 with either both SnD losses or both OVL losses, this would come into play. Same if you go double neslo.

This even assumes that you fill in a 0 for "Score Difference in X Mode Wins". It's actually **undefined** what you would do in that case.

Overall, this just goes to show how incredibly incompetent the people running this are.

It did end up happening with Falcons not winning an S&D (their WQQ by the * method is 0) but it didn't change their outcome. Thieves beat Falcons in the addition way too.

Would have loved to see a scandal around this rule actually coming into effect.

Projected bracket if favorites win

G2 Heretics

Thieves M8s

--------------

FaZe Optic

Falcons Koi

Man those semifinals are going to be BORING

NOTE:

This assumes that G2 can choose Heretics or Optic (from the opposite group), and Falcons can choose Koi or M8s (from the opposite group). If there's another system idk what to say

NOTE 2:

Apparently the rulebook confirms this format.

NOTE 3:

Actually this is wrong.

What exactly are the traits people care about for being considered a visual in Kpop?

Seriously, like is it only how your face looks? Or do things like your height or if you're muscular or whatever come into play?

I've always assumed it's just how pretty your face is but then I am not Korean I don't truly know how it works.

Juicy J and Ty Dolla Sign coming out at Lollapalooza

It feels like performing with Western artists at festivals is only going to become more common from now on.

The Juicy J one was somewhat expected as he has a previous relationship with Cortis and Bighit groups have done this often, but for a SM girl group to bring out Ty Dolla Sign is actually crazy compared to a few years ago.

Once you're in a state where this is acceptable to audiences, it feels like a good deal for everyone to have this happen.

I think we can start viewing this more as an expectation than as a rare occurrence.

Aespa in Sahara PLEASE

Lolla was so fun with them in a late timeslot on a side stage.

It would be so fucking lit

Have them right before like IsoXo or something and it'll be a blast

Please repeat the no opposing pop or EDM acts when a Kpop group is on

As a Kpop fan, Aespa was so much more fun than Idle Jennie and Cortis because there wasn't any pop act or Perry's act opposing them.

This brought over a portion of the random ravers and pop fans over to Aespa. The energy levels were much higher. This strategy had incredible results

The cherry on top tonight was that the excluded fans were Tate and Chainsmokers campers, W

Aespa was the set of the day for pop/EDM

Im not into stuff like the xx or turnstile so can't comment there.

But among the pop and EDM they were #1.

Aespa just fucking threw down

Probably the best Kpop crowd I've ever been a part of. Fit the festival vibe so well.

They did benefit a lot from being at night though. Cortis at night would have been interesting. At 3:40 in the most mud of the weekend was a tough draw.

I know Jennie was at night but her songs are slow songs

NA challengers is at a disadvantage with how fast their players get picked up

Due to 1) no visa issues and 2) higher visibility from the teams, NA up and comers like Nium and Kips will get picked up instantly.

But for somebody like Ethan, they'll only get picked up in the offseason.

So it's much easier for EU teams to build chemistry together, and for orgs with EU teams to keep their stars for the whole year.

Cortis is a mega lock for 2027

HYBE has sent a group the past few years (LSFM Enhypen Katseye)

They have massive demand in the US

Their Lolla set went super well

The crowd is so different today

Can't tell if it's because just too early or what, but so many brat shirts and basically no jerseys

John Summit might actually be the source of the trash. It might not be a Lolla wide thing

Yesterday was my first day at Lolla ever so I have no reference to previous years

Will IVE perform in the US in 2027?

What do we think are the chances of them performing at Coachella, Govball, or Lollapalooza?

Is there any other way they'd perform here? Another tour or Kcon seems unlikely to me.

If you haven't seen them on this tour yet you gotta go!

The success of the Manon drama contributed to the decision to bring back OT4 NewJeans

I believe that without the Manon drama helping Katseye grow, we would be less likely to have OT4 NewJeans return.

In the past in Kpop companies have been much more careful about this sort of thing, but now there's a proven model (Katseye) for member drama driving interactions, streams, and everything else.

Various thoughts after seeing IVE in person for the first time

This is primarily for thoughts that can only be determined from going in person (and not things like how the show was setup). Here goes:

On live singing:

• Yujin and Liz were definitely singing live nearly the entire time. For the others it seemed on and off.

On crowd popularity:

• Liz surpassed my expectations in terms of crowd cheering. She probably had the largest number of very loud fans.

• But, Wonyoung was louder overall because literally every single person cheered for her.

• Yujin Gaeul and Leeseo were pretty much to my expectations (Yujin with a lot the other too was alright)

• Rei didn't have as many overall cheers, but seemed to have a number of dedicated fanboys

On English skills:
• Gaeul Rei and Leeseo rarely spoke in English.

• Liz was trying very hard with English. Wasn't the smoothest but I respect the effort so much.

• Wonyoung did well but seemed to very much stick to the script.

• Yujin had (imo) by far the best English. Felt less rehearsed and standard. Mentioned things like it being her first time in Canada, as opposed to just saying "I'm excited to be in Toronto with DIVE".

On the crowd:
• Was meh in terms of energy. But it seemed like a near sellout for the sections that were opened up. Very good attendance overall in a year where people are having attendance issues.

• The people who left before After Like was played and then came back when they did a second encore don't know ball.

On their ments:
• Pretty standard and quick. Not that much comedy or off the cuff activities.

I recommend everyone to go and see for yourself. The setlist was extremely well organized and each stage had a specific vibe that worked. Had a fun time!
