I/O psychology Ontario

Hi ! I did my BA in psychology and have been an ABA therapist the last few years. I was thinking of maybe getting a masters in counselling psychology or doing a master in industrial organizational psychology. I’m just wondering if anyone from Canada or Ontario who did a masters in industrial org psychology can give me any opinions or advice if you think it’s worth it - is the job market really difficult to break into? I’m worried because I don’t really have any experience in I/O other than the internship I’d do apart of my program it would be hard to find a job at the end of it thanks so much !

Can someone be a reference for me for teachers college/ a master in school psychology Canada *

Hey everyone, I’m hoping to apply to teachers college or a school psychology masters program. I got diagnosed with Crohn’s last year so I haven’t really worked the last year and there’s a big gap in my résumé obviously like a year, if anybody has a job in any capacity that would look good for those programs in the field of education , can you please be my reference I will be your reference for the rest of your life lol. I was a teacher assistant a few years back so that’s one of my references, but I need two and I only have one 🥲

Is it worth it to be an RBA in Ontario still?

Hi everyone, I was debating getting my masters to become a behaviour analyst but I tried looking for jobs just to see and there really isn’t a lot of options. How is the pay? Is the burnout really bad? I wanted to do this or a masters in social work but i definitely won’t get into a social work program in Canada and would have to do it online in the states it’s just so expensive like 50K I don’t think it’s worth it so I was leading more towards RBA I’m just regretting doing my undergrad in psych to begin with at this point lol

What coffee beans do they use at the AOK café?

I go to Vaughan mills a lot and I always get an iced latte at the A-OK café inside Aritzia and it’s literally amazing. I heard that they use the de mello coffee rosters, but does anybody know the specific roast type? LOL I’m literally OBSESSED and need to replicate it at home

Is this stool impaction ? Or partial bowel obstruction

Hi, I was constipated for like five days last week and I finally went to the bathroom and then yesterday after I ate, I felt really full and I couldn’t go to the bathroom so I just started throwing up water with a bit of undigested food. 10 this morning I went to the bathroom but again I felt really full and started throwing up water with undigested pieces of food and I’m still throwing up lol my stomach doesn’t hurt at all, but obviously something is wrong. Do you think I just have like stool stuck in my colon? Hasn’t happened before so I don’t know what to do

Is this a bowel obstruction? Maybe partial?

Hey guys, I was constipated a bit last week and I finally went to the bathroom and yesterday after I ate I felt really full and sick and I started throwing up water probably bile with pieces of food that I didn’t digest and I couldn’t go to the bathroom. Then this morning I had oatmeal and I went to the bathroom & i started throwing up water and the bit of Matcha that I had and underneath my rib cage my stomach is bloated. I don’t necessarily have bad stomach pain. I just feel full. Do you think this is from a bowel obstruction? lol I think it’s weird I’ve been throwing up yesterday and today but I don’t really have stomach pain

Helped Ibs-m

Hey guys, just sharing things that have helped me on my journey. I had really bad IBS-M I lost 6 pounds in two weeks. I kept having food intolerances that ruined my life I lost all my appetite.I would have severe stomach pain I’d be dripping in sweat, couldn’t sleep from the pain. Constant constipation or diarrhea bloated to the point I looked pregnant. I got ultrasounds and I was SO backed up. I would start throwing up bile for how constipated I was . A lot of mucus in stool. Hard stools when I was constipated. When I was having a flareup, sometimes my heart rate would escalate so much. I actually believed that I was dying and having a heart attack I would feel like I was passing out, and when I finally was finished using the restroom, those feelings would go away, and this was stemming from my vagus nerve. It’s the pathway between ur gut and nerve and in a flare up it becomes completely overworked.

WHAT I DID

- ate a strict diet for 1 month, Ate only chicken, fish, rice, steamed carrots, spinach, Swiss chard, cucumber , GF oatmeal, blueberries, raspberries, kiwi, sour dough toast, almond butter. These were all low fodmap and I knew what my stomach tolerated. Find what ur stomach tolerates and stick to that- I needed to lower the inflammation

- after this I started following the lowfod map diet ate whatever was lowfod map. While these diets I started:

- coconut kefir ( this doesn’t help everyone, but it if works for you it is life changing) I started with half a table spoon for a week, saw how I reacted, nothing bad happened and went up to a cup a day, would put it in smoothies. My stools started to become more consistent. My bloating reduced and I can eat trigger foods now with little to no reaction. I believe this helped me the most.
.

- slippery elm tea with a bit of L glutamine - in the morning on empty stomach. Noticed it calmed down my stomach pain, it soothes irritated gut lining and mine was very irritated.

- zinc carnosine, helps leaky gut calms down hyper active nerves = lower abdominal pain cramping. Took it on empty stomach 30 min before breakfast. Would have my tea wait a bit and then take zinc.

-bentofotamine vitamin b1 - once a day after lunch or dinner. Helps regulate gut motility and vagus nerve

- artichoke extract & ginger root on empty stomach, to help my motility. Took it at night before bed.
.

After using all the supplements for 3 weeks I tried SMALL portions of a trigger food once a week and saw how I reacted. I was so sick of following the diet. I didn’t even care how I felt. I went to my favourite bakery. Got an iced latte with regular milk and a croissant. I was completely fine. Having regular milk two months ago would absolutely destroy me. I would be on the toilet for hours crying in pain. I was so shocked I couldn’t even believe that I was fine. I didn’t want to get too cocky so I waited a week to try another trigger food. I had stirfry noodles with onion. Very small portion. I did have urgency to go to the bathroom about half an hour later, but it was a regular stool no cramps no nothing. I went to pizza place had two slices of pizza mozzarella tomato sauce was fine. Now I eat whatever I want. I’m still careful about not overdoing it, but I can say that I have my life back. I’m still using all the supplements listed above

I know certain things work for people and certain things don’t just wanted to share what helped me. I spent so much money on supplements and working to see what helped and the above did. Also, I noticed that if I have a bit of Matcha with almond milk that it stimulates my bowel movements so whenever I feel like I need to go to the bathroom, I have a bit of Matcha with almond milk and it always helps me stay consistent. It’s a process of trial and error and seeing what works for you. It is so exhausting but I can say I’m 80% better and almost normal again.

How to heal methane sibo

I have major food intolerances that I’ve never had, constipated for days, which turns into diarrhea, cramps. I feel like my life is ruined I’m only 26 and I spend my days hiding in my house worried about when the next flare up is going to be. I miss going out for dinner with my friends I’ve lost so much weight this is so miserable. I started drinking coconut kefir and taking l glutamine. Don’t really notice any differences, but I just started taking it. Does anyone have things that I can take to heal this? I refuse to live like this

Best remedy for constipation

Hi I get constipated for 4 to 5 days and it makes me really sick. I tried psyllium husk and it did work, but it was making my stools really hard I was worried I was going to get an anal fissure. I had them in the past so I stopped using it. Does anyone have any recommendations on things that can help me go to the bathroom regularly that wouldn’t necessarily cause any bad side effects?

Amoxicillin caused ibs- does anyone have any remedies

So pretty much I’ve gotten strep throat my whole life I’ve taken antibiotics and the last round caused my IBS. I am having random food intolerances that I’ve never had. I am in major stomach pain randomly. I feel like I’m gonna pass out, fatigue etc. all of the symptoms. I’m just wondering, has anybody in my situation found a cure or has been able to get them themselves back to normal? I’ve tried the Low fodmap diet and that does seem to ease my symptoms. I just don’t wanna be on a restrictive diet for the rest of my life 😭😭😭 im IBS-C I’ll be constipated for 5 days at a time, it’s so brutal

Should I pursue PR? Psych background

Hey everyone, I’ve always liked the idea of PR. I’m a pretty creative person. I feel like I would like internal communications. I graduated with my undergrad psych in 2022 I work with kids that have autism. I just feel like this isn’t really something I could see myself doing much longer. I’m just getting a bit tired of it and I know there’s a bunch of other things that I could pivot into in psych but I I am not sure if I want to be in a therapy like role. Do you think it’s worth it trying to venture into PR at my age (26)? Do you guys enjoy your careers? I’ve read and heard mixed messages that can it be toxic and overwhelming. Should I stop now lol? I was thinking about doing a post graduate certificate that includes an internship through this college near me but I’m not sure. I could also venture into school psychology and get a masters in that it’s just I find that stuff so boring. it’s the same thing every day it’s not very creative like I would just be testing kids, which is really cool but I want to have a job that I feel like is stimulating and creative - but then again not every PR job is necessarily like super creative. I know some of them could be super cut throat. Thank you so much for reading this and hopefully I can get some suggestions.!!!!

26F wanting to move to Italy. What jobs could I get?

Hi everyone, I’m from Canada. My parents are from Bologna Italy. I understand Italian fluently and I can speak it very basically but if I’m there, I’m sure I could pick it up fast. So pretty much my dilemma is what jobs realistically would be possible for me to land a position and I know the pay and the salaries aren’t that good but the quality of life in Canada is bad. All my friends have moved all over the US. There’s really no reason for me to be here lol I really want a change. I was thinking about getting a masters in user experience psychology from Cattolica. I did a bachelors in psychology. Do you think I would be able to find a job after that or maybe what sectors is there employment in? Or I was thinking about going to Bologna University and doing a masters in HR and organization or some type of business role. Thank you!

Teacher vs school psychologist vs social worker

Hello everyone, I thought that I would come to a forum with teachers to get some general opinions lol - so to preface I’m 26. I graduated with a bachelors in psychology a few years back. I worked abroad in a school for two years. I also have worked with at risk youth in a counsellor type role. I worked one on one with a child that had autism for a bit. I was his tutor. My dilemma here is that I really want to go pursue more education to further my career. I was leaning towards either becoming a teacher, a social worker or a school psychologist. I love kids I’m just not sure which one is best. Obviously, I know this is up to me to decide but hearing other perspectives is always nice. I really enjoy analyzing behaviour lol and I guess being a teacher you don’t really do much of that in a clinical aspect per say. This is why I was leaning towards either being a social worker or school psychologist .Social work I find very fascinating. I would really love to work at the mental health hospital near me as a clinical social worker. I find that very interesting and I enjoy understanding how and why people are in certain situations and what I can do to help them however, thinking about this long-term I feel like especially since I’m a female could be unsafe (erratic behaviours, people withdrawing on drugs etc). I feel like I would get burnt out (Type of a setting like mental health for the rest of my life )so I was leaning towards being a teacher, but then the group atmosphere of having 30 kids in one class is just really overwhelming since teachers work with school psychologist what are your thoughts on what they have to do if you could go back would you be a school psychologist/ social worker or would you keep your career?
