🆘🩷 ELSIE WAS ABANDONED. NOW SHE’S RUNNING OUT OF TIME. 🩷🆘
Elsie (#A2080551) was reportedly left behind in a backyard when her owner walked away.
Now this gentle 4-year-old Mastiff mix is facing euthanasia at BARC and needs a foster, adopter, or rescue by Wednesday, 7/1 at 1 PM.
🐶 ELSIE #A2080551
🩷 Mastiff Mix
🩷 Female
🩷 4 Years Old
🩷 Heartworm High Positive
Despite everything she’s been through, Elsie continues to be the kind of dog shelter staff love to walk.
✨ Easy to leash
✨ Walks beautifully on a loose leash
✨ Calm and gentle
✨ Friendly with handlers
✨ Stays close to people
✨ Little interest in other dogs
✨ Loves being near her humans
Staff repeatedly describe Elsie as calm, quiet, and easygoing. She walks nicely beside her handler, settles comfortably on her bed, and often simply watches the world go by.
One note described her whining when her handler walked away. 💔
Another described her staying close during her outing, choosing companionship over adventure.
Elsie isn’t asking for much.
Just someone to stay.
💔 She was abandoned once already.
Please don’t let her be abandoned again.
Elsie is currently being treated for a kennel upper respiratory infection, and her heartworm disease is treatable. What she needs most urgently is a safe place to leave the shelter behind.
⏰ DEADLINE: WEDNESDAY, 7/1 AT 1 PM CT
⚠️ BARC has stated there will be NO extensions.
🏡 AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION, FOSTER, OR RESCUE
🚗 Out-of-state and Canadian adoptions may be possible through rescue partners. Transport is typically around $600 USD and includes boarding, veterinary care, spay/neuter, health certificate, and transport.

Fertilizer makes my feet smell… please share your tips!!

At my old greenhouse I was allowed to wear open toed, hiking sandals. At my current greenhouse I am not allowed the same luxury. I have tried the closed toed sandals but the dirt doesn’t rinse out easily and it causes irritation. I have been watering in sneakers as a result. I had forgotten that the smell was the whole reason I fell in love with open toed, hiking, sandals. I don’t like the short rubber boots either so I am trying to avoid them.

What do you do/use to curb the stench? I am alternating sneakers daily and washing them weekly. There’s gotta be a better way… please help!!

The Greed of McDonald’s

McDonald’s. They are the greediest of companies. 1 million seconds is about 11.5 days. 1 billion seconds is 11,574 days; nearly 32 years. This should help conceptualize the difference between a million and a billion. McDonald’s made $15.742 billion dollars in profits in 2026 alone. They increase profits by 7+% year over year. There’s literally no reason why they charge so much for their food except greed… they certainly aren’t giving it to the employees. But they have the Ronald McDonald house… they must do a ton of good with all that money! Nope. They committed to giving $100 million dollars over a five year period and then they ask us for donations at the register which is put towards the house… they don’t even give the full amount out of their own pocket. It’s a hollow gesture to make people *think* they are decent. A little light research shows they are not decent at all… they are greedy and price gouging people.

It would take about 2.25 days of profit for them to donate the full $100 million they pledged to donate over a 5 year period.

It’s tick season, of course. Since tick season started I have spent over 100 hours in the woods. I have flicked 4 off of me, below the knee and that’s all.

I watch other people pull them off their bodies, embedded in their beards, even their “promised land”. A friend of mine once had to get 2 stitches in the tip of his Johnson after going to the ER for a tick removal 😳I see 3-4 in a row climbing up their long pants. Etc… we all know the horror stories!!

How do I get so few ticks? I honestly think it’s because I wear what is comfortable for me, which is not what we’re told to wear.

I love, really love, my hiking sandals. For 20 years I always have 2 different models. I wear the kind that have a strap just behind the toes and another around the ankle. I have the all plastic sole, which is perfect for swimming and hiking, they don’t hold water. I also have Clarks, they are leather and look good on an afternoon out. I also wear either capris or shorts. If it’s 50 and above capris, 60 and above shorts.

The last bit is that I don’t shave my legs as often. I’m completely comfortable with 1/8 inch length. Freshly shaven legs aren’t as sensitive… When the tick starts crawling up my legs, I feel them and flick them off.

Sometimes, not often, I haven’t once this year, i will spray my feet with bug spray. It’s just getting to the point where I will spray my whole body because mosquitoes.

Not sure why I am sharing this… it just feels right. Also, what a fantastic mud season this year!! Sucks cause we need the water but I enjoyed not having to iron rake the tire tracks in the yard🌺

I stopped using FB 15 years ago. This is a truth. I stated that and got downvoted😂 Crazy. Some guy commented on my post and then blocked me immediately. That’s kind of petty but fine. I made another comment to address his upset, said that I don’t use FB; it’s apparently an old meme from FB; and apologized that he’s sick of seeing it. Got downvoted on that too😂 🤯

I have seen no less than 3 vicious, extended, exchanges in the comment sections this morning. What were the posts about? Something controversial? Nope. One was a 16 year old girls post about how her mother doesn’t allow her to wear deodorant. It’s just people attacking people for no good reason. Is it a full moon? Is there something in the water? It’s frustrating to see people treat each other so poorly over such trivial things💔
