Finally got New X-Men Epic Collections Vol. 1–3 together.

I’ll be honest, one of the biggest reasons I wanted to read this run properly is because of Cyclops, Emma and Jean. I know Morrison’s run is considered a major turning point for modern X-Men, but for me the main curiosity is the character drama and how it leads into the Scott/Emma era.

I already know I love me some Scemma, so I’m really interested in seeing the foundation of that dynamic here, even if I’m not sure yet how much Morrison’s style will fully click with me.

For people who love New X-Men, what made this run work for you, the ideas, the character drama, the school setting, or the way it changed the X-Men going forward?

June haul. I may have gone a little overboard.

June haul. I definitely bought more than I planned, but I’m really happy with how all of these look together.

Got Absolute Superman by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank, Ultimate Spider-Man Omnibus Vol. 1, JMS Amazing Spider-Man Epics Vol. 2 and 3, New X-Men Epic Collections Vol. 1–3, Nothing Can Stop the Juggernaut, Daredevil: Guardian Devil, Spider-Man India, and the first two Absolute Batman hardcovers.

The Spider-Man and X-Men spines look really nice together, Absolute Superman looks beautiful in person, and Ultimate Spider-Man is just a massive beast of a book.

Not gonna lie, my wallet probably hates me right now, but this is easily one of my favourite hauls so far.

Is Amazing Spider-Man: Big Time worth reading/buying?

I’m considering buying Amazing Spider-Man Modern Era Epic Collection: Big Time, but I wanted to ask people who have read it before.

For people who have read this era:

How good is Big Time as a Spider-Man story?

Is it a strong jumping-on point for modern Spider-Man?

How is Peter written here?

Does it have good emotional/personal-life material, or is it mostly superhero action and status quo changes?

Also, is this Epic Collection worth buying physically, or is it better to sample digitally first?

I’m especially curious because I like Spider-Man most when Peter’s life, relationships, responsibilities, and emotional struggles are central to the story.

Mutant Genesis vs Bloodties which is the better 90s X-Men omnibus if I care about Jim Lee art, costumes, and good stories?

I'm m trying to decide between X-Men: Blue & Gold Mutant Genesis Omnibus and X-Men: Blue & Gold Bloodties Omnibus.

What I’m mainly looking for is:

- Jim Lee / Jim Lee-style 90s X-Men artwork

- iconic 90s X-Men costumes

- Cyclops’ classic look

- that X-Men ’97 / animated series visual energy

- some solid or enjoyable 90s X-Men stories too

From what I understand, Mutant Genesis seems like the better fit for Jim Lee-era art, costumes, and the iconic early 90s X-Men image. But I’ve also heard the stories can be mixed and that some of the stronger storytelling comes after Lee leaves.

Bloodties interests me because of the Scott and Jean wedding, the Summers/Cable family material, and the wider 90s X-Men crossover era. But I’m not sure if it has the same visual/iconic value as Mutant Genesis.

Also, does Bloodties contain much Jim Lee art, or is most of the Jim Lee material mainly in Mutant Genesis?

For people who have read or own these:

Which one would you recommend more for someone who wants 90s X-Men visuals, costumes, Jim Lee-style art, and some good stories?

Is Mutant Genesis the better collector/art/iconic-era book?

Or is Bloodties the better overall read/story omnibus?

Looking back, how do you feel about the Scott and Emma era of X-Men?

I’ve been thinking a lot about the Scott Summers and Emma Frost era lately, especially New X-Men, Astonishing X-Men, Decimation, the Messiah era, Utopia, and the period where Scott becomes more of a wartime leader for mutantkind.

Regardless of whether someone prefers Scott with Jean or Emma, I feel like Scott and Emma’s relationship was a huge part of that 2000s X-Men identity.

To me, Emma wasn’t just a random love interest during that period. She was tied to Scott’s evolution as a leader, and Scott was tied to Emma becoming more than just the White Queen/Hellfire Club version of herself. Their relationship felt messy, adult, flawed, but also very important to both characters.

I’m curious how other X-Men fans look back on that era now.

Did you enjoy the writing of Scott and Emma together?

Do you think their relationship elevated both characters?

How do you feel about the overall X-Men era built around them, from Morrison and Whedon through Utopia and the Messiah period?

And do you think there should ever be another major Scott and Emma era again, or do you think that chapter is better left in the past?

Does anyone else feel like they love the idea of X-Men more than actually reading X-Men?

Genuine question.

I love the characters, the costumes, the relationships, the themes, the cartoons, the movies, and the whole idea of mutantkind.

But when I actually sit down to figure out where to start, what matters, what got retconned, what event leads into what, and which books are considered essential, I sometimes end up feeling overwhelmed.

Sometimes I feel more connected to Cyclops, Emma Frost, Rogue, Gambit, Wolverine, Jean Grey, and the overall mythology than I do to the comics themselves.

Maybe that's a weird thing to admit as an X-Men fan, but I've always found myself loving the world of X-Men more easily than navigating the actual reading order.

Anyone else feel this way, or am I alone on this one?

Do you ever realize you love the idea of collecting a character more than actually reading all their comics?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently.

Sometimes I genuinely love a character or a franchise, Spider-Man, X-Men, Superman, Daredevil, etc. But then I start wondering if I love the actual comics as much as I love the \*idea\* of collecting that character.

Like with X-Men, I love the mythology, the costumes, the outsider themes, the relationships, the history, the big emotional moments… but trying to collect/read everything can become overwhelming very quickly.

Same with Spider-Man. I love Peter, MJ, Felicia, Ultimate Spider-Man, emotional stories like Spider-Man: Blue, JMS-era stuff, etc. But then suddenly there are so many Epics, omnis, reprints, OOP books, relationship arcs, eras, and it becomes less “I want to read this” and more “I need to secure this before it disappears.”

So I guess my question is:

Do you ever feel like you love the \*idea\* of being a collector of a character more than actually reading everything connected to them?

And if yes, how do you decide what’s truly worth keeping/buyin

Does anyone else suddenly lose the urge to buy comics even when they still want them?

For the past few weeks I was constantly thinking about buying stuff like Absolute Superman, Dawn of X Omnibus Vol. 1, ASM Epic Collections, USM Omnibus Vol. 4 & 5, Messiah Trilogy, Bloodties, Mutant Genesis, Zdarsky Spider-Man, etc.

And then suddenly this weird feeling hits me out of nowhere.

Even though I still like these books and technically have the money for some of them, my brain suddenly goes: “Why am I even buying any of this?” and everything starts feeling like a waste of money, time, space, energy… all of it.

It’s honestly a very strange feeling because a few days earlier I’ll be super excited researching reprints/restocks and planning future purchases, and then one day later I don’t even feel like buying anything at all.

I don’t think I’m losing interest in comics themselves because I’m still enjoying stories like Spider-Man Blue and some other stuff I’m reading. It feels more like I’m getting mentally exhausted by collecting itself.

Does anyone else here go through phases like this with omnibus/comic collecting?

Trying to track down the JMS Amazing Spider-Man omnis, any news on reprints or restocks?

Been wanting to read/collect the J. Michael Straczynski Amazing Spider-Man run, but Vol. 1 and 2 seem hard to find at reasonable prices right now.

Does anyone know if Marvel has mentioned a reprint/restock recently, or how likely these are to come back?

Also curious whether these usually disappear for long periods or get reprinted fairly often.

Thanks!

Will I enjoy the rest of the New Krypton Saga if Atlas didn’t really click for me? Worth continuing the omnibuses?

So I recently started reading the New Krypton Saga Omnibus and I’m a bit mixed on it so far.

I didn’t really enjoy the Atlas storyline much. It just didn’t click with me emotionally or as a Superman story. On the other hand, I did enjoy Brainiac, especially the atmosphere, art, and some of the character moments. Even though I’m still not fully sure why it’s considered one of the all-time legendary Superman stories, I definitely liked it more.

So now I’m wondering:

If I didn’t enjoy Atlas much, but did enjoy Brainiac, what should I expect from the rest of the New Krypton Saga going forward?

Does the story become more political/world-building focused? More emotional? More action-heavy? More “Superman family” oriented?

Basically I’m trying to figure out whether the later omnibuses are something I’d genuinely enjoy or if this era maybe just isn’t fully for me.

For context, the Superman stuff I usually connect with most is the more emotional/human side of the character rather than just big spectacle or lore.

USM Omnibus Vol. 1 already restocked in India? Confused about this

I’m a bit confused about what’s happening with Ultimate Spider-Man Omnibus Vol. 1.

I saw this PSA post saying the restock is expected around 6/30/2026, but Bookswagon in India suddenly got copies in stock right now and I ended up ordering one.

What’s confusing me is that the listing says “International Edition,” so now I’m wondering if:

- this is part of the same restock arriving early in some regions

- or if this is older imported/distributor stock showing up before the official wider restock

Main reason I’m asking is because I’m a little concerned about condition quality if these are older warehouse/import copies.

For people who collect Marvel omnis regularly:

Is this kind of thing normal? And does “International Edition” actually mean anything important or is it basically the same stock?

I’m still relatively new to omnibus collecting so half the time this stuff genuinely confuses me.
