This guy got me back into the hobby in 2021. After a 15 year hiatus. The John Blanche nostalgia got me. Haven’t turned back since.
This old-school Castellan was the first model I painted to a standard I was happy with. At the time, I stopped painting more details in fear of messing up.
Since then, I’ve learned a lot. And thinking about taking this guy back into the shop to level up some details.
But I’m on the fence. Should I keep him as-is for a nostalgic first model? Or what would you do to level up some details? (finishing the eye lenses is first on my idea list).
Not sure where else to post this handsome lad.
A whole Kharadron Ranger army based around this style would honestly be really cool 👀

Here’s the test model for the Crimson Fists scheme. A 3rd Company Veteran Sergeant. I’m calling him done. Until I can think of a name for the shoulder pad (and get brave enough to freehand it).

Is that too bright of a red for Crimson Fist eyes? Does it look like heresy? I’m on the fence.
Ran out of Blood Angels red contrast and went for the Baal Red instead.

This was one of my favorite projects from last year. Learned a lot. And got confident painting different types of skin tones. Definitely more involved to paint than anticipated.

Here’s an older project from last year. Part of my journey working my way up to more complex Khorne demons.
Learned a lot about red skin in the process. Pretty simple / quick scheme.

A little annoying GW only gives you 8 models in the Darkwater set though. Any recommendations on classic Beastmen models to fill out the last 2 spots and make a full AoS squad?
I'm leaning towards picking up the Old World Chieftain. And painting him in the same extra sick Nurgle style.
Just a couple smelly swampy bois from the WHQ Darkwater box. Super fun painting project.
Later this year (after I've made some progress on Armageddon) I'm going to wrap up the Nurgle side of WHQ.
Anyone played these guys in AoS with success?
Excited to see how the Mordant Earth cures overnight. Going for a feeling that Skarband's steps are breaking the earth. He's just leaving behind a hot mess.
Need to finish up the basing and some highlights on the model. Then Big Angry Boi is done.
