PS2 PAL + RetroTINK-2X Pro over Component: Intense Bob Deinterlace Flicker & Image Retention

I recently set up my PlayStation 2 (PAL region) to a modern TV, a samsung q60 series 4K, using high-quality hd retrovision Component cables connected to a RetroTINK-2X pro.

When I set the RetroTINK to LINE 2X mode, the screen starts flickering intensely. I know that the RetroTINK uses Bob Deinterlacing to handle the 480i/576i signal from the PS2 with zero lag, but the flicker on my modern display is severe. And the image quality really sucks compared to pass.

To make things worse, it's causing noticeable image retention (temporary burn-in). While playing Need for Speed: Most Wanted, the static HUD elements (the mini-map and the tachometer) became clearly printed onto my screen after a short session. They do go away eventually after running a pixel cleaner / normal content, but it's terrifying to look at.

Since I am playing on a PAL console, I cannot use the standard X + Triangle shortcut at boot to force 480p Progressive Scan, as EA stripped that feature from the European version of Most Wanted.

If I switch the RetroTINK to PASS mode, the flicker goes away completely and my TV handles the deinterlacing natively (so no image retention), but the input lag becomes quite noticeable and ruins fast-paced gameplay.

Is it normal for the Bob Deinterlacing on the RetroTINK-2X to be this aggressive to the point of causing rapid image retention on modern LCD/OLED panels?

Will this xbox 360 disc become unusable in the future?

I glued the cracks some years ago, but it seems that one of them expanded and actually got into the silver part of the disc.

This game is very expensive and it would be a bummer to see it not working in the future.

This is the only english copy I own, the othr 2 are in german and im from Romania, and I know 0 german.

Anyways, is there a way to prevent it from cracking even more?

Is need for speed most wanted 2005 on xbox 360 the best version so far?

After researching the graphics leap between platforms, it's clear the Xbox 360 version easily beats the vanilla PC and PS2 versions in terms of lighting, shaders, and overall atmosphere.

However, I have a few questions regarding this specific version and its unique features compared to older hardware like the PS2:

The Insane Pricing:

Why are physical Xbox 360 copies of this game so ridiculously expensive nowadays compared to the PS2 or original Xbox versions? Is it strictly due to low print numbers back in late 2005, or is the high demand driven entirely by collectors wanting that "next-gen" visual treatment?

Screen Tearing Fixes?

The screen tearing on the Xbox 360 drives me absolutely crazy. Has anyone found a reliable way to minimize this on modern TVs? Does changing the console's dashboard resolution output to 720p help at all?

Police Strobe Lights (White Flashes):

During pursuits, the cops only seem to flash red and blue. I've always wanted to see those white strobe flashes on the police cruisers like on ps2 and pc. Is there any hidden graphical setting for this on consoles. Ill show some pictures

Dynamic Lighting and Weather:

I noticed that unlike the static PS2 version, the Xbox 360 version has dynamic lighting and shifting weather effects (like rain that actually alters the tone of the game, also there are sunsets). Did the devs build a completely unique engine for this version, or was this code just disabled on the 6th gen consoles?

The Audio Engineering & Police Scanner:

The audio quality on Xbox 360 feels vastly superior, especially with the deep engine notes and surround sound positioning. More interestingly, I swear I've heard different/more detailed police scanner dialogue lines on the 360 compared to the PS2 version. Does the Xbox 360 version actually contain extra cop chatter or cut dialogue files due to its higher disc storage capacity?

I will show some photos as a comparison regarding that white light im talking abt.

Why does need for speed most wanted and silent hill 2 have a better sound quality than other games on ps2?

I ve been playing again these 2 games on my ps2, and the sound quality is comparable to the ps5, on other games.

It may also be due to the crt im using, having a 2.1 setup, but even on my 4k samsung qled, they sound better than most other games.

Whats the deal, is it just me?

Btw, im using rgb scart if that even matters, ignore the composite cables seen in the pictures. That is for the ps3.

Ben 10 on this sony trinitron looks sooo great!

I recently bought the whole original series on dvds and in playing them via my ps2 phat.

This model is the kv e2931d, and it uses a satelite setup surround sound system, 3D something :)))

The audio experience is comparable to a cinema, and im not even joking!

Just bought this cechc04 ps3 console for 40€ from Romania!

It came with 2 sixaxis controllers that are in horrible condition.

The disc drive is totally dead ☠️

The temps are fine 63 cell and 58 rsx while in xmb, with 32% fan (didnt do any tests in ps3, nor ps2 games).

It has 104 days

And heres the binning:

rsx: b08 500/650 vpe:ff shd:6f [AP0006948:1:1:b:c:14:2:11:1][16:3:1:1:1:3:1][0:0:0]

Its a 7B date code.

The owner told me he had it since launch, and is the first owner.

Found many cartoons and pictures with his family dating all way back to 2007 (I was 4y, goddamn).

I bought an ASUS ROG STRIX SCAR 18 2024

Bought this unit back in the fall of 2024, and somehow I completely forgot to make a post about it... so here I am now. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've been using it for quite a while now, so I think I can finally give some proper long-term impressions.

Specs:

- Intel Core i9-14900HX

- NVIDIA RTX 4090 Laptop GPU (16 GB)

- 32 GB RAM 5600Mhz

- 6 TB SSD (2 TB stock + Samsung 990 Pro 4 TB)

This laptop is honestly amazing. It pretty much has everything I could ask for in a gaming machine. Of course, everyone has different standards, but personally I don't mind the slightly smaller keyboard or the 18-inch display.

The display is easily one of the best I've ever used. It's actually better than my Samsung QLED TV. Mine has the Mini LED panel (2560×1600, 240 Hz), and it looks incredible. I also like increasing the Digital Vibrance to around 65% in the NVIDIA Control Panel because I prefer more saturated colors.

The Mini LED panel has around 2,000 local dimming zones, giving it excellent contrast while avoiding the burn-in concerns that come with OLED. Blacks look fantastic, HDR content really pops, and it also supports Dolby Vision, which makes compatible content look even better.

The speakers also deserve some praise. There are two tweeters above the keyboard and two woofers underneath the chassis. They get surprisingly loud, have a decent amount of bass for a laptop, and I haven't noticed any distortion even at higher volumes. The laptop also supports Dolby Atmos, which makes movies and games sound even more immersive.

The keyboard is very comfortable to type on. The keycaps are a bit on the small side for my hands, but after a few days I got used to them. Per-key RGB is a nice touch, and compared to my previous gaming laptop (an HP Omen 15 from 2017), I'd say the typing feel is at least as good.

I also upgraded the storage with a Samsung 990 Pro 4 TB, bringing the total capacity to 6 TB, which is more than enough for my game library and other files. If you consider buying one, get it without the heatsink, as it doesnt fit.

For cooling, I'm using a Thermaltake 20-inch cooling pad, and besides helping with airflow, it looks absolutely awesome with all the RGB lighting.

Performance has been phenomenal. I even applied a small overclock, and the laptop handles it without any issues. ASUS offers several performance profiles: Silent, Balanced, Turbo, and Custom. Turbo and my custom profile definitely get pretty loud, but that's expected when you're pushing this kind of hardware. Thankfully, the three fans do an excellent job of keeping temperatures under control. I'll include some pictures of the temps because I think they're genuinely impressive.

The build quality feels a bit cheap on the main board where the keyboard is. The screen pannel is aluminium, and slightly curved from bottom to top, to avoid keyboard scratches. Overall it feels sturdy and premium, and despite being an 18-inch laptop, it's still manageable if I need to move it around.

If I had to point another one of the weak spots, besides the plastic materials, it'd be the webcam. It's honestly pretty mediocre, but I rarely use it, so it doesn't bother me.

As for the microphone, I haven't really tested it enough to give a fair opinion.

The port selection is pretty solid overall. You get 2× USB-A (10 Gbps), 2× Thunderbolt 4 / USB-C ports, HDMI 2.1, a 2.5 Gb Ethernet port, a 3.5 mm combo audio jack and the dedicated power connector. Personally, the only thing I'd complain about is the number of USB-A ports. Two is enough most of the time, but I would've loved to see a third USB-A and maybe even an extra USB-C, especially considering this is an 18-inch desktop replacement with plenty of room for additional I/O. Other than that, I have no complaints—the Thunderbolt 4 ports are great to have, and the 2.5 Gb Ethernet is a nice bonus for anyone using wired networking.

Overall, after owning it for quite some time, I can confidently say this has been one of the best tech purchases I've ever made. It's an absolute beast, and I couldn't be happier with it.

I'll also attach some photos of the setup, RGB, and the temperatures under load.

Just bough this pair of audeze maxwell for 150€.

They are second hand, and I bought them from someone in Romania.

Came with the original box, one extra headband, and also an extra pair of ear cushions.

They are flawless, and they work great with a ps5 using the extension cable with the dongle. They obv work perfectly fine with PC aswell. I also connect them via bluetooth to my s24 ultra, and by activating LDAC on BT, they re trully amazing. I even use them while playing ps2/3 games, by connecting the headsets to my tv, which is a samsung q90 series from 2019, and I didnt notice any delay in sound. I ve tested while playing the last of us on ps3.

Im coming from an old pair of logitech g231 prodigy from 2017, and another pair of asus rog delta II, which were horrible. I ve returned them via warranty and they gave me my money back, which was 210€.

I forgot to show the mic, it also includes the mic, obv :))))

CECHA00 PAL Upscale Black Screen & Save Region Conversion Dilemma (NFS Most Wanted)

I'm playing Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005) on my backward-compatible CECHA00 PS3 (NTSC-J) using an iso from my disc copy of the PAL game.

I ran into the classic issue: whenever I try to enable THE Upscaler in the PS3 Game Settings, I just get a black screen.

I know this happens because the NTSC hardware is struggling to upscale/handle the PAL 50Hz signal.

So does anyone know a workaround?

Need advice about delidding my PS3 CECHA00 – worth the risk?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice from people who have experience with maintaining the early PS3 FAT models.

I own a Japanese CECHA00 with 140 days of use, and a European CECHC04 with 40 days, if I remember right. Both are running with custom fan control, and I'm trying to preserve them for as many years as possible.

Here are the temperatures:

CECHA00

- RSX: ~57°C

- CELL: ~69°C

- Fan: ~45%

CECHC04

- RSX: ~64°C

- CELL: ~64°C

- Fan: ~40%

Something that confuses me is that, despite these temperatures, the air coming out of the back of both consoles is barely even warm. The airflow itself is strong, but the exhaust air doesn't feel hot at all.

Because of that, I'm wondering if the heat transfer from the CELL to the heatsink isn't optimal anymore, even though the reported temperatures look decent.

I've read a lot about keeping the 90nm RSX below ~60°C to slow down long-term degradation of the underfill/BGA package, so I've been prioritizing RSX temperatures. However, I'm not sure if it's worth chasing even lower temperatures.

I've been considering having the CELL delidded, replacing the thermal interface with PTM7950, and possibly doing an RSX undervolt. I found someone who offers all of this for about 150 RON (around €30), which seems like a very reasonable price.

The problem is that I would have to ship the console across the country, and honestly I'm pretty nervous about it. The CECHA00 is becoming increasingly rare, and I'd hate to lose it, have it damaged in shipping, or simply never see it again. My alternative would be driving there in person and waiting while the work is done, but it's a very long trip.

So I have a few questions for those of you with experience:

- Based on my temperatures, would you even recommend delidding the CELL?

- Is PTM7950 a noticeable improvement over high-end thermal paste on a PS3?

- Has anyone here done an RSX undervolt? How much did it reduce temperatures and fan speed?

- Are my current temperatures already good enough that I should just leave the console alone?

- Does the cool exhaust air actually indicate poor heat transfer, or am I overthinking it?

I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have actually worked on these early PS3 models.

Thanks!
