New joiner, new-ish(?) author.

You guys are so nice I wanted in on the niceness you offer to new authors but I self pubbed 4 years ago so I guess I'm not 'new' but anyway.

Don't really even need to link the book but totally here for the headpats LOL!

FYI wrote it in a burst during COVID, self pubbed cos I wasnt gonna go back into development hell, followed a formal process using multiple editors, writer group, beta's, proofer yadda yadda.

Non AI art cos it wasnt available at the time. Commissioned a dude online and it's awesome. Ok well I like it.

I have various contradictory opinions about the book but I was kinda driven by it and sometimes when it's that strong you get out of the way. Still missed a couple of blots in proofing though. Bah humbug.

Glad I did it, was a personal thing of I-did-it and massively liberating.

Anyway sending you all some positive vibes and celebrating your new work and my slightly not exactly new but new ish work!

Manhattan Transfer meets Highbrow Relationship Snark - 'Alibi'

Lyrics are pretty brutal:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tD_uHY7kM4M

What did you tell him
the same things you told me
what does he know now
the truth as I believed.

And I want you
I want you
I want you
so bad I can't breathe

You don't feel
the things
that people feel

not for a moment.

I'm just your tool
i'm just a lie
I'm just your shield
I'm just your
Alibi

You gave me up a lot sooner
than you knew
whiskey with the door closed
late night compartments
where you hide the proof

Composite of everyone you've met.

Your every angry answer
to anything that's happened
is still only grieving
for yourself

Every phone call
a performance
that you gave for
three

think I didn't notice?

I won't be your fool
i won't tell your lies
won't be your tool
won't be your
Alibi

Cliffhanger conversations
in the dark
we are who we are
in passport photographs

can't lose something
that I never had

Does it matter what I thought?
Does it really matter when?
too busy to be playing me
when you're already
betraying them

Truth best viewed from

thirty thousand

feet

(i still hear him crying about you)

I won't be your fool
i won't tell your lies
won't be your tool
won't be your
Alibi

[lyric] the sun shines on

Summon my ghosts of the morning
send them my early farewell
A catch in my breath
at a ribbon
you left in a drawer

But the sun shines on
the sun shines on me
the sun shines on me now
and I don't feel a thing

deep in the mundane and normal
keep the appearance
that everything's well
Linger
over each thing
that still bears your smell

But the sun shines on
the sun shine's on me
the sun shines on me now
and I don't feel a thing

Send me your strength of conviction
give me this moment
a reason to bear
another reminder
that seems to speak in your name

But the sun shines on
the sun shine's on me
the sun shines on me now
and I don't feel a thing

Music video made using images from this and other subs

Here's an original music video that uses a collage of stickers, graffiti and protest art collected from public spaces and imagery shared by the community. It's intended as a documentary-style visual accompaniment to an original song cos the song was inspired by street art and stix.

[POEM] Sandovals Poem - uncredited Miami Vice writer

(details about poem at end)

Sandovals Poem

In the place where I came from the jungles were a jade wall

And the plains rolled like the sea

The mountains carried the wind on their shoulders

But some thought the sky was too bright and they wept

And others thought the sea was too deep and they gasped for breath

And some said we use the land - it cannot be owned or possessed

And others said we did not create this and so it mocks us

And therefore we will take it

And they said that which we did not create we still can kill

And they rolled out in all their armor

The horses weighed down under the weight

And the rains came

And the mud

And they sank in the land which they could not possess

Upon the earth which they did not create

- This was a poem supposedly written by a fictional dissident south american writer character 'Sandoval', in S2/22 of Miami Vice circa 1986.

It remains uncredited and according to fandom may be by one of the episodes writers, Shel Willens & Jim Trombetta, or episode contributor John Mankiewicz.

Goes to show you can get cracking poetry from unexpected sources :)

[POEM] Rick Lyon - Jesus at the Greyhound station

Jesus at the Greyhound Station

Omaha, Nebraska

These people need you, all right, if anyone does,

and I picture you among them, outcasts and cripples, the aged and ill.

One of them might ask for a light, offer you a smoke,

like the young skateboard artist, not so young,

with the four-leaf clover tattooed on his right hand,

the old cowboy hippie wearing his dress boots and crushed straw hat,

with a wad of dog-eared papers in his back pocket,

documents important to him if no one else.

As each of these souls matters to someone,

we’d hope, having gone too long turning our eyes from the needy,

chasing the beggars away with a harsh word, gesture,

not wanting to be bothered, with –what?—

more important things to do.

One might come to the station to sit awhile, without going anywhere,

simply sit and ponder, take it all in without thinking a thought

and wonder how someone might claim to love his brother, love anyone,

but our bus arrives and the gritty run-down dream is broken.

October 14, 2017

Shelby, NE,

Nebraska again, near Omaha,

having just returned from here, now en route to California
