Hoping and Praying

Even when you knew it was alphabetical it took forever to get to your school. When your school wasn't listed you'd have to wait and wait for it to get back around.

Mark Knopfler 77 today, Happy Birthday

He was the lead guitarist, singer and songwriter of the rock band Dire Straits from 1977 to 1995, and he is one of the two members who stayed throughout the band's existence, along with the bassist John Illsley. After Dire Straits dissolved, he pursued a solo career and is now an independent artist. "Money for Nothing" the #1 hit had background vocals and a backing chorus of "I want my MTV" set to the same notes as the verses of the Police's hit "Don't Stand So Close To Me" sung by none other than Sting.

AM radio staple Eric Carmen born this day in 1949.

From the Raspberries to a great solo career. Had a string of Pop hits from "Go All the Way, All by Myself, to Hungry Eyes". Because of its sexually suggestive lyrics, "Go All the Way" was banned by the BBC lol. Pretty tame by today's standards.

Ian Anderson of Jetro Tull turns 78 today

I wouldn't normally put anything related to Jethro Tull in a metal sub but they did win the Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance in 1989. Beating Metallica's "And Justice for All" album. Makes ya wonder who's runnin that Grammy place lol.

ATTN: Made a typo in the title, He's 79 today.

Happy Birthday Lucy.

Lucille Ball born August 6, 1911. She had so many great shows I watched as a kid. Without her there may have been no Star Trek. Lucy-Desi Museum

Louis Armstrong Happy Birthday, (1901-1971)

Louis Armstrong or 'Satchmo' as he was also known as, remains one of the most famous and influential jazz artists. He was the leading trumpet player of his day and in his later career, with his famous gravelly voice, was even able to kick The Beatles off the number 1 spot in the charts.

Playmates of The Clouds - Hi Flyer

I had one exactly like this when I was a kid in the 60's. No plastic or bright colors, just tissue thin paper, balsa wood, and string. 10 cents and a scrap piece a cloth from Mom would buy you a whole afternoon of fun.

To helll with the toy, just gimme the box.

Kittens are like kids, they get bored with the toy in 15 minutes, but a box is an adventure. Just ask Charlie.

Brian May 79 today.

From guitar hero to a PhD in astrophysics. I'm probably in the minority but I think the first 3 albums were the best.

Ronald Franklin Asheton - Born on this day July 17, 1948

Guitarist and founding member of "The Stooges". The band is regarded as the seminal proto-punk band and a major influence on the punk rock genre with the albums The Stooges (1969), Fun House (1970) and Raw Power (1973). Would have been 78 today. That first line kills me, "I'm a street walkin Cheetah with a heart full of Napalm".
