Why do you keep fish?

And what got you into the hobby? I remember even as a small kid I loved animals. When others were reading books I was reading animal lexica. We got our first tank, and it was sadly the classic goldfish bowl. That was around 35 years ago. But my dad caught the fish tank bug, educated himself and started getting into the hobby. From an age of around ten I was his fishtank Robin, helping with the weekly water changes, feeding them, sitting there for hours watching. Some of my most beloved memories as a kid is when we would drive to get new fish. Walking with him through the isles of the lfs, sitting besides him in the car, the new fish on my lap. And of course as soon as I had my own flat I had my own tank. Since then I always had fishtanks, getting better and learning more with every one. Everyone asks me "Why do you have fish? You cant pet them! And its so much work!" I dont think they understand the joy of sitting there, watching your fish thrive, maybe even breed because you managed to give them what they need. When I had a shit day, everything went wrong, work sucked, there is nothing that soothes my mind more than sitting in front of my tank, cat on my lap, watching my fish. And it does not go away. Even now I csn see my father lighting up when we talk about my tank, what I did, which fish I got, although he had no tank for the last 20 years.

What are you most looking forward to?

There are a few games coming or are in EA where I really look forward to the full release. The big one atm is of course Subnautica 2. I have not bought it yet as it seems to not have much content yet, but I will surely jump in when it is a bit fleshed out. I also played the demo of Blind Decent and it has much of the Subnautica DNA without the water. It seems to have some cool ideas though. One of my personal EA favourites is The Last Blight. I absolutely love realistic survival with extensive mechanics even if they border on being annoying for others, and this absolutely nails that. One I also really like because of its extensive building mechanics is The Infected. You can turn off the enemies if you like, its building is satisfying enough to stamd on its own. And of course the announcement of Darkwood 2 has me stoked. What are your favourites?

Am I the only one

Who never finishes a City because I grow dissatisfied with the look and start over again? Especially with games that give you the freedom to be really creative. I really enjoy Town to City at the moment, but my layout always seems to be lacking. And seeing other players incredible cities does not help either.

Some pics of my new corys

Just wanted to show off the new corys that joined my tank today to give my remaining two old ones some new friends. Saw them at my lfs a few days ago and was instantly struck by their colouring. Only had 7, will try to get three more in time.

Consider keeping rainbowfish!

With this post I want to bring rainbowfish as a whole a bit more into the spotlight. My first rainbowfish were boesemani in a big 450 liter tank, and I fell in love with them immediatly and they became my favouriteschooling fish. There are many incredibly colourful species out there and they are not too hard to keep. The pictures above are praecox, thry stay a bit smaller than most other rainbowfish and actually show more schooling than most tetras. The pictures are taken with my phone so they dont do the actual colours justice. So next time you think about what centerpiece/schooling fish you want, dont be fooled by the fact they they look mostly colourless in the lfs, consider rainbowfish.

Now with fish! Changed the lighting a bit. Beginning of next month I will add more corys to the remaining two.
