A true r/ATLA_circlejerk user’s mission is always to shepherd the subject at hand to Zucest. Sometimes this is an arduous task, a complex logical puzzle, and at other times completely trivial. The mission is never boring, but it can be a bit simplistic, since it’s normally enough for someone to post an image with both Zuko and Azula present for the comment section to be shepherded to Zucest without any struggle. The sad (or happy) reality that Zuko has more chemistry with his little sister than with anyone else makes this inevitable.
Although the ferocity of our comrades’ jerking is admirable, leadership came to the conclusion that the ideological education of our troops is lacking. They jerk, but without complete understanding.
Thus the ZSC has entrusted me with the task of writing up a brief history of our struggle and our mission, and maybe give advice to a more efficient jerking.
Quoting from Zucest historian Training_Pen:
>There was an Avatar incest community on LiveJournal as far back as 2006. It’s still up I think, but abandoned. There were people shipping Azula and Zuko and writing fics about them while Book Two was first airing. It was pretty niche until the bedroom scene in The Awakening though.
>On Deviantart you can also find scraps of fanart and manips from around 2007 - 2009 that predate the big influx of Rule 34 art that they started getting in the 2010s.
I would partition the history of Zucest in three eras, one per decade. Besides the aforementioned presence of Zucest on the internet, the other source worth mentioning would be Grey DeLisle herself, the voice actress of Azula.
She coined Zucest, and shipped it alongside Azula/Ty Lee (which is a different tale) on her Tumblr, while confessing that she is purposefully voiced the infamous bedroom scene as Azula trying to seduce Zuko.
Source for her old tumblr, doesn't open well on pc. I did not find a source of her saying she voiced that scene purposefully seductively, they say it happened on Twitter. I see no reason to disbelieve it.
It is also her who contributed the most material in the second era, when she said that Zuko would impregnate Azula if they went on a life changing adventure.
If the first era was casued by some of the show's questionable scenes, the second era was caused by "The Search" comic.
A completely unedited picture from the comic.
A rather recent and big influence on incest jokes and jerking is the excellent "psychological horror" (heh, the only thing scary about it is that it's not finished, but I digress) video game, called "The Coffin of Andy and Leyley" a meme spawned from it includes editing the two protagonists into different characters from other fandoms.
For example:
And the incest from other media like Game of Thrones and House of the Dragons, normalisation yada yada, not interesting. This is about it history wise.
One more thing I can mention is our forces position in the shipping war. We have a non-agression pact with the Kataang people, the Zutara are too dangerous to ignore. They are trying to steal Zuko from his sister.
