Renting out my flat and have some questions about tax

Moved into my girlfriend’s flat permanently and decided to rent out my flat because if I sold it I think I would lose money, but I’m not entirely sure. I plan to sell in the near future but I’m currently letting it out through a letting agent. It’s also a safety net for me just incase for whatever reason things with my girlfriend don’t work out and me and my son don’t have to worry about somewhere to live.

So my understanding is HMRC sees that I’m earning an extra £7500 a year and I’m already on a £40,000 salary. Will this affect my tax deductibles on my wage from my job? Or do I have to tax this extra income myself and how do I go about this?

I believe you also get tax credits on the interest on the mortgage I have but I’ve no idea how that works or if it’s all automatically done by HMRC

Do chemical plants not work this way or am I doing something wrong?

im aware the lower pipe for petrol gas is dead in the picture, but the left hand side chemical plant is showing 0 water content and 0 petrol gas when the line is full.

Im not sure if im doing something wrong or the plants dont align this way and you need to individually pipe each one.

Who’s the mod on here that constantly removes everything?

There’s been a mod on here that’s been removing stuff for a wee while now for no apparent reason.

Someone on here just posted that they’re a trainee barber giving out free haircuts if you model for them and let them use it for their portfolio. Pretty nice thing. Beats the few dozen posts here every day about bins, potholes and price of a bus ticket.

Why can you not just let the sub upvote and downvote and decide for themselves what gets to the top rather than making the decision yourself?

Looking for another mod or two

Hello everyone, been a few months since I managed to recover the sub now and we’re slowly but surely getting a bit more activity on here.

I’m looking for 1 or 2 no lifers like myself that want to help mod this sub.

Comment below if you’re interested and I’ll give you a message later

[BO] Say what you will about the ports, but Black Ops has reminded me how good we had it

Replaying the original has only reinforced how good we had it back then. Nostalgia be damned.

I’d argue this applies to gaming as a whole, but Call of Duty is one of the clearest examples. There are so many little features packed into Black Ops that I completely forgot existed and we took for granted. Theatre Mode, the emblem creator, the ability to get out of your chair in the main menu and playing Dead Ops Arcade or Zork by using the computer.

None of those things were necessary, but they gave the game so much personality. It felt like the developers genuinely wanted players to keep finding reasons to come back and it was made my people who were genuinely passionate about gaming and wanted to give us the best product they could, because it’s what they would have wanted too.

The campaign is what really stood out to me, though. The writing is still excellent. It flirts with conspiracy and sci-fi just enough to make the story memorable without completely abandoning what Call of Duty always did best which is showing the brutality and moral ambiguity of war.

Mason, Woods, Hudson, Reznov are still some of the most memorable names in the series, and the twist still lands even when I knew it was coming. I found myself paying attention to the little details every time Reznov appeared after the Vorkuta escape and I also noticed you can’t trigger a mission fail by using friendly fire on him unlike shooting the other NPCs.

The wager matches and contracts were a brilliant idea, the progression feels rewarding without becoming a second job, and customisation struck a nice balance between being meaningful and not overwhelming and distracting. You unlocked content by playing the game, not by working through five different battle passes or limited time events.

Although the multiplayer may have been improved in some aspects as the years went on, I can’t help but find the general balance of how the game plays out is so much better, even if it feels a bit slower. I’ve found there are some issues with hit reg and not sure if others have found the same. I’ve been really trying to avoid online discourse on this one as the algorithm generally caters towards negativity and I’m just trying to enjoy this as much as I can without that influence.

Going back has reminded me that Black Ops wasn’t just a great Call of Duty, it’s one of the standout shooters and video games ever made and belong in the Hall of Fame category. The cultural significance this title shares along with (some of) its predecessors and successors hold so much weight.

How much I’ve enjoyed playing this port has also filled me with a lot of contempt about how far the modern titles have drifted from the core mechanics and the themes of the franchise. I’m not sure how much of that is to blame on the developers being replaced by soulless journeymen - I’m constantly reminded of that one interview with a developer talking about callouts for a cat cafe and just feel like they would have had no business being involved in the production of these classics back then.

Im in my late 30s now and often when I revisit older games, it’s a pretty harsh realisation that older games were only good to us back then because we were young and that’s what we had, but not this one. It’s been a solid reinforcement that we lived through a golden age of gaming. Games were made by people who cared about their project and the hobby and were not trying to squeeze every penny they could out of our pockets.

Maybe nostalgia plays a part, but after replaying it, I think a lot of the praise it gets is genuinely earned. I hope Activision, IW and Treyarch take serious note of why these games and ports were so successful. People will happily give you their money if you give them a well polished and fun Call of Duty game.
