UK sisters, what's your average mahr requirements?

Does it depend on how much he earns, what type of job he has or how much he has saved up? Or do you have a set requirement regardless of anything mentioned above? And is it a high or low requirement?

If he earns less and your requirement is a set requirement and higher, would you lower it?

Also how much did other women in your family/friends circle ask for?

Financial stability after marriage is not guaranteed...

I want to talk about something important.

People always say, “Get stable before getting married,” but rarely talk about what happens when you have a job, get married, and then suddenly lose that job. You’re no longer financially stable, so then what? Does the marriage become a problem because the man isn’t “providing”?

Realistically, no job is really “permanent.” Everything could change in a matter of days, weeks or months after marriage, and you could end up in the same situation as someone who is unemployed before marriage. The difference is that now you have someone you trust, someone you can lean on, someone who loves you and can support you through that difficult period. Also, if he loses his job shortly before the nikah, are they really going to cancel everything? You've already come this far, so why should losing a job suddenly change whether the marriage can go ahead?

You may no longer have financial stability, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve suddenly stopped being able to provide. Your situation has just changed, not your ability to provide.

Also, in my opinion, “providing” and being “financially stable” are two separate things. For example, you could lose your job and temporarily become financially unstable, but still have savings to support yourself and your wife while actively looking for another job. You are still taking responsibility and doing what you can to provide, even though your financial circumstances have changed.

And what exactly does “stable” even mean? A permanent contract? A certain salary? Having a certain amount of savings? Owning a house? Having no debt? At what point do you officially become “stable enough” to get married?

Why are men expected to be fully financially stable while that "financial stability" is not even guaranteed? Why don’t we focus on whether he has a “provider” mindset, rather than expecting him to be both financially stable and a provider?

I’m not saying being financially stable isn’t important. What I’m saying is, what happens if you suddenly lose that stability? Does that mean you shouldn’t get married anymore?

I think having a “provider” mindset is more important than simply expecting to reach a certain level of financial stability before marriage. You can work together, support each other and get through difficult periods. The man can still have the responsibility of providing, but that doesn’t mean both people stop supporting each other when circumstances become difficult.

If a man has savings but doesn’t currently have a stable job, can he still “provide”? Or does he still have to wait until he is financially stable before getting married?

It is also sometimes expected that the man should earn more than the woman. Obviously, if she isn’t working, that’s a different situation. But if both are working and he has a decent salary, is responsible, and is able to provide according to his means, why should his income necessarily have to be higher than hers? Why should his ability to provide depend on earning more than his wife? And why does his job have to be “good” enough? Who decides what “good enough” actually means?

I think the real question a father or wali should ask a man is, “Can you provide, and are you willing to provide?” rather than simply asking, “What job do you have?” or “Are you financially stable?” A job title or current financial situation doesn’t necessarily tell you everything about a man’s sense of responsibility or his willingness to provide for his family.

Financial stability can change. A willingness to take responsibility, work hard and support your family can remain.

I understand this has turned into something more than just the main point of the post, which is financial stability after marriage. And I’m sorry if this post offends some people, but these are genuinely things I’ve been thinking about and questions I feel are worth discussing.

I am expecting some downvotes and critical comments! Go ahead, I just stated my opinion, and you are entitled to yours.

Are there any people in this sub from the Gujarati community?

I know there are quite it a few people in this sub who are Indian but could be from anywhere.

But I'm curious to know if there are any people who are Gujarati. Maybe there are but they just don't comment or post.

Especially anyone from the UK.

Is my CV bad?

Is my CV not good enough even though I tailor it to the job description? This one is tailored to a specific job description, but overall cv is the same.

No interviews, literally ghostings every single time. I don't know what to do.

Brothers with extra hair on your cheeks, does it bother you in terms of how it makes you look?

Brothers: Do you have hair growing high up on your cheeks as part of your beard, whether it's thick or thin? Does it make you feel a little less attractive, or does it not bother you?

Sisters: Do you still find a guy's face attractive if he has cheek hair like that as part of his beard, or do you prefer a beard with cleaner cheek lines?

How do you make your post stand out more?

About 1 and half days ago, I posted about opportunities that I'm looking for job opportunities with my preferences included. It got some impressions but it only got 1 like and 0 comments.

However 13 hours ago, there was a similar post but that got 33 likes and 10 comments, but mine didn't. Why is that? Is my post not reaching a lot of people? It feels so unfair.

I can't even contact anyone as there's not a single contact detail for recruitment or hr. I reached out to some recruitment people on LinkedIn but one of them is on sick leave and the other hasn't replied yet.

Have the froze the recruitment process or is the role filled up?

Anyone working at DPD mind explaining what's going on?

What does "passionate" mean here as a requirement?

What do they really mean by "passionate about our brand"? Are they expecting someone who "loves" Superdry clothing items or just passionate in general?

And why do I need to be passionate about it if i just want to have a job and make a living?

Job search struggle and marriage.

Salam everyone,

How is everyone who are struggling to find a job in the current UK job market coping? Especially those who want to get married but can't due to not being financially stable.

I'm a male in my mid 20s and struggling, and honestly sometimes think I won't get a job, it's a thought that scares me so much 😭. And then the other thought of not being able to get married because of that, another scary one.

This is something I want to get off my chest and wanted to share it here. I'd really appreciate any support and kind words rather than criticism or any "brutally honest" advice.

Jazaka'Allah!

Does royal mail come under the logistics industry?

The definition of logistics on google is:

"Logistics refers to the process of planning, organizing, and executing the movement of resources, goods, and information from their point of origin to their destination. Its primary goal is to ensure the right products or services are delivered in the correct quantity and condition, exactly when and where they are needed."

Since Royal Mail's core business is transporting and delivering mail and parcels ("movement of resources, goods, and information"), would it be accurate to say:

  • Main industry: Logistics
  • Sub-industry: Freight & Package Transportation (as it's categorised on LinkedIn)

Or would you classify it differently, such as postal services, transportation, or something else?

I'm asking because I'm searching for jobs in the logistics industry, and I'm trying to understand whether Royal Mail is generally considered part of the logistics sector.

Linkedin job search feature

Why doesn't linkedin have the job search feature like other job boards where you can choose by the job category/industry? Why is the only option to search by the job title?

Asked a genuine question but some people were rude.

Yesterday I posted a normal question about being allowed to take the bag even with 5p short for it.

I only asked because tesco isn't some local shop where the shopkeeper will allow you, it's a major supermarket and I thought a supermarket like tesco would even take a few pennies into account since it's big.

And my God, I had 2 people being quite mean even though i asked a genuine question of whether this being allowed or not and why 🙄. I even had one person dm me directly calling me names and being abusive and telling me they will down vote all my posts and comments because of this one question 🤦.

Very interesting rejection email.

This is the first time ever I got this type of rejection email. Normally it's those standard rejection emails like "After careful consideration..." or "We received a high volume of applicants and your application was not selected..." etc. But this one is more specific and not standard.

Has anyone else gotten this type of email before?

Would you still get married if you had a decent amount of savings, but your job itself was unstable?

For example, imagine you've earned and saved a decent amount of money over the years, but your current job isn't very secure. Would that stop you from getting married, or would you feel financially comfortable enough to move forward?

The reason I ask is because we often hear that having a stable job is important before marriage. But if you already have enough money to support yourself and your future spouse, why wait until you find a more stable job? Realistically, isn't financial stability the more important factor? For example, someone could be a millionaire and not need to work anymore, yet still be in a perfectly good position to get married.

Or, if both spouses were happy with the arrangement, they could initially live with the husband's family, as many desi families do. If he already had enough savings to cover the mahr, wedding expenses, a modest ring, and provide for his wife while continuing to work towards a more stable job, would that change your perspective?

I know I'll probably get some criticism for asking this, but it's just a thought that came to mind and I was curious to hear different opinions.

How is introvert/shy personality viewed when it comes to marriage?

Especially for a guy, is it a bad thing because he is supposed to be a "man" and speak up for his wife and protect her if something happens. What if he is naturally quiet and shy?

Would it be okay if he is only like this with others especially her family, but extroverted with his wife?

Are there any people who got married just by having part-time jobs?

I am curious to whether some people, especially brothers who got married without having full time jobs and instead just have part time or temporary jobs and then later got a full time job. Or probably still have a part-time job even after getting married. Regardless of age, young or old.

I know for sisters, it doesnt matter what type of job you have, as the man is the provider, but also just curious about you.

Jazak'Allah

London UK thunderstorms and lightning early this morning, 23rd June

These screenshots are from a video I took during the thunderstorms. The whole video is long and quite boring, I just captured the lightning strikes' screenshots from the video. And they're 3 different stikes, not a single one.

Comment your favourite one.
