How to use/ set up text to speech tts engine on lineage os without google

Please add in the comments other tts engines you're aware of

I made this post with an easy to search title to provide a full complete guide to set up this missing tool in the default lineage os system with no google components.

A tts engine is needed to anything that needs to speak out loud something, like a navigation app as comaps or an assistant app such dicio.

Google tts is not the only option out there, and not even the best imo. Last time I tried it, i was not satisfied, and I actually prefer sherpatts piper option. The existing alternatives that I'm aware of are listed at the bottom.

To set it up, you need to enter the tts settings and set it as default. On my device they're in settings>system>languages>speech>text to speech voice output and that's it

To really download all the viable options for sherpa tts you need to go over to the hugging face website. During sherpa setup, select try models, choose the language and select the model. Once you chose the one for you, copy its name, go to the home of the website by tapping on the emoji top left, search the name you just copied, head over to "files" next to "model card" and here download the largest file with .onnx extension and tokens.txt. after this you'll have to select install piper from sd and you'll have to enter the code of the model's language (eng, ita, rus, and so on), choose a model name (can be anything, this is for your reference) and select the said files you just downloaded

Setting a tts engine for lineage os

There are several tts engines on fdroid, also some really good ones actually. Though I can't really find a way to set them as default so that apps like dicio assistant or any navigation map could use it. Do I need to set it up through adb? Do you know how?

Presenting Notivisor: your phone's notifications inside the headset, so you stop taking it off every ten minutes

You know the moment. You've been in a session for a while, everything's going well, and the phone buzzes somewhere on the desk. And now you have a choice nobody enjoys: ignore it and spend the next half hour wondering who it was, or pull the headset off, find the phone, read one line, put everything back on and pick up where you left off.

It gets worse when the thing that arrived actually needs an answer right now. A verification code while you're logging into something in the headset browser. A courier who is downstairs and leaving in three minutes. A call. None of that waits until you're done, and every one of them costs you time.

Notivisor does the boring, obvious thing. One app installs on both the phone and the headset, the two devices talk to each other directly over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, and your phone's notifications pop up over whatever you're playing. No server, no account, and the text is only ever seen by your two devices.

What that gets you in practice:

  • Reply to a message from inside the headset, and the phone sends it as if you'd typed it there
  • Answer or decline a call without going anywhere
  • Copy a one-time code, so the thing you were signing into doesn't time out
  • Open your phone's screen in a window next to the game and actually tap around in it
  • Type on the phone with swipe and autocorrect instead of pecking at letters with a controller
  • Per-app filtering, and dismissing in one place clears it in both

Pairing is a QR code: show it on the phone, scan it in the headset.

Caveats worth knowing up front. It works with games running on the headset itself, so PCVR over Link or Virtual Desktop is out. The phone needs unrestricted battery use or Android stops the app about a minute after the screen goes off. And I developed and tested this on a Quest 3, since that's the only headset I have.

Do seriously some people think obtainium is more secure than fdroid?

From what I could find out, obtainium takes the releases from the github page, while **the official fdroid repository** adds a layer of security, by taking the code and build it from source, after some days. This protects us from something like nekogram to happen, or also attacks to the dev's credentials and keys.

I'd personally prefer to always use this layer of security, for convenience I'd prefer to use other repos on the same client, I'd choose accrescet when possible still for security, and wouldn't use the github release if possible. I also prefer the fdroid ui and ux, I discovered many useful projects with proper descriptions

If you use obtainium for everything, why do you do that?

Voip client to use the phone number inside the home router, can something like this even exist?

What I'd like to do is to go around with a small 4g router that i can cut power to in order to have more privacy but still the convenience to use a lan wherever i need one, not having a sim in my personal phone, but still be able to make calls on the go. I'd also like to use my home network's phone number, that we may call the household number, just with an app. Is this even possible? Is it possible to receive also sms on a similar client?

Vrchat won't work and i can't see a pattern

First try with Proton ge rtsp, starts, follows head, stats the loading, crashes. Fine, let's try proton ge 10 34, same. I try proton cachy, everything loads, i get into the game, but motion controls don't work and i can only see a 3d square screen in front of me. Now not even proton ge rtsp will hook the screen to my head during the initial loading

I'm using wivrn with a pico 4 ultra on a pc with 14900k, rx7900xtx and garuda linux

Non riesco ad attivare MLO network sul mio router

Il mio router è uno huawei LG8245B7N fornito da eolo che prevede la possibilità di aggiunta facile di extender compatibili (dopo potrebbe essere un dettaglio importante forse)

Quando cerco di attivare MLO mi dice che non posso creare altri ssid. Il mio sospetto è che abbia bisogno di un ssid per la rete 2.4g e uno per la rete 5g, da far usare poi come uno unico. Posso creare manualmente un ssid per la rete 5g ma non per la 2.4g. Nella sezione wifi coverage, che mostrerebbe le informazioni per gli extender, riesco a vedere un secondo ssid 2.4g: WirelessNetac1c010c. Ha la stessa password dell'ssid che posso configurare ma non lo vedo nella schermata dove posso gestire gli ssid.

Vorrei attivare mlo nella speranza di migliorare il pcvr con il mio pico 4 ultra che supporta il wifi 7 ma per ora vede la mia connessione come se fosse wifi 5. Quando uso il wifi 6 sull'hotpsot del mio telefono non riesce a connettersi.

Il mio sospetto è che sia un ssid riservato agli extender. Volendo avrei potuto eliminare lssid visibile del 2.4g ma non posso selezionarlo per l'eliminazione se non ne creo uno nuovo a quanto pare...

Qualcuno ha un'idea?

Monitor con fila di pixel inutilizzati, non centrato e più piccolo di quel che dovrebbe essere

Ho provato a usarlo con hdmi, due display port diverse, adaptive sync on e off, windows e linux, smart size a 1:1 e 27"w (il massimo), pip disattivato, resolution notice, che non so cosa sia, on e off,

Edit: nulla, il pixel orbiting che non funziona. L'ho messo fast ma la posizione è sempre la stessa

Edit2: no, non è vero. Una porzione di schermo in ogni caso non si riesce ad usare, ma perché? Semplicemente ora è centrale

Wuthering waves unreal engine related error random crashes Fatal error! Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION

I didn't get the chance to test other ue based games yet.

I get to play it easily with no launch options, works fine for a bit, up to 30 mins till now. Sometimes, some stutters start to appear. Sometimes, this is exactly before the error. It is not straight up a crash with a black screen, but a little window "fatal error" appears while the game is still processing things, like in a quest i can still hear footsteps and pg talking. Sometimes, the image doesn't even get stuck. I didn't find a way to fix this anywhere, and it seems like no one on proton db got my issue.

Garuda linux, everything updated, the build version for the amd drivers is arch1.2, not 2.1, and I can't update this yet. Garuda seems to wait for the update. The mesa drivers though are on the last version.

I didn't expect garuda linux to work better than windows

I bought a used desktop and drove home with it. I had nothing to keep the gpu steady nor an adequate, long, and slim enough screwdriver to put it in its box for the shipping. Although the case has a gpu support, I was still scared something bad could've happen. When I try cyberpunk on my Fresh windows install, and I see the error device removed or something... wtf happened to the pcie? Well, nothing, it was an amd driver issue, that doesn't bother me on linux

Garuda seems easy, doesn't comply with age verification, and it seems an already kinda riced up de.

​

I think I'm officially about to finally daily drive linux. Wuthering waves and genshin impact will be the next games I'll try. Luckily, I don't care about competitive multiplayers anymore

GUYS I found this tool that lets you convert your favourite songs playlist (not shareable by default, with some missing options and features) into a normal playlist, shareable, with time counter, and many other useful stuff I wanted for a long time, and you might need it too

This way, you'll be able to share all your favourites here, edit them together with someone else in a collaboration playlist, without touching the original playlist that will be forever untouched. You can also share almost all your favourites while removing some songs for any reason.

I hope I'm not giving useless work to the mods, but this seemed... useful for the purpose of this sub

GeoShare app doesn't open google maps links

Geoshare is an app that converts google Maps links to other alternatives, and it is very handy in theory. On a Samsung with one ui7, I can't keep the default google links active in the supported links list, and this sucks. Does anyone know how can I fix this?

When i activate the google links in the second image every time I get to that page, they are turned off again
