Handsome unit!
Any other 'official' nomanshigh systems?
I am aware of the "NMH Capital" system in Euclid (as shared last year in this post) -- but seems like I've seen mention of one in Eissentam or other places? I just couldn't seem to find a specific post about it when searching.
Why is it so hard to find *good* cilantro? (Or am I imagining this?)
Edit to add: no I am not mistakenly buying parsley :-)
Has anyone else experienced what seems like a random chance that store bought cilantro will smell/taste good?
I have always loved cilantro, and have never had the “soap” taste reaction. I have always felt bad for folks who do!
But it seems like for at least 10 years or so when I buy cilantro, more often than not it just smells like … lawn trimmings? Sometimes it’ll have a *hint* of that lemony brightness that wakes up more when chopping but still pales in comparison to the occasional (I would even say, for me, rare) batch that reminds me of what I love about the herb.
The mediocre batches I sometimes end up with don’t look like they’ve bolted — which I understand can affect flavor/aroma.
Am I alone here?
When I try searching online about this, the search engine tends to give me stuff about the genetic difference for people, not the actual issue.
Chuzhao with macro lens
I did the hack I’ve seen posted before of gluing a phone-cam-lens-clipon lens mount ring to the Chuzhao — these were my two favorite so far, with the macro lens
Steam Background Recording starting on its own (w/ broken video) - Anybody else?
In No Man's Sky -- really the only game I've been playing while using video recording from Steam -- I keep discovering these broken background-recording entries in my screenshots/recordings list. Even though I have auto background recording turned off
What I think is happening:
First to be clear, I have video recording set to manual —
It is key-bound to F5 as a shortcut.
During a play session, I can start and stop a clip the first time without issue. But the 2nd clip I try to start later will always fail. Then if I try starting one again, it usually works, and I can hit f5 again to stop it.
But then when I look at my recorded items, there's a giant Background Recording entry sitting there -- typically it's been recording for longer than I ever intended to record anything for. I'm still not sure when it is doing the long recording until I quite the game vs. just doing it until I start a new recording, or what.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone else is seeing this in other games? Or in NMS for that matter? Any fixes? Thanks.
(Edit to clarify further that I am aware of the recording trigger options and that it is set as manual)
“Specialist tools that are being forced to solve generalist problems” - perfect distillation
The latest monologue at around the 24 minute mark really summarizes the situation so well — the *most generous* frame, really, is this point.
What was a lab experiment that could’ve turned into a limited but valuable iterative improvement in natural language processing & ML tooling for specialists, was propagandized into the mess we are in now. All due to a handful of nutty cultists capitalizing on the ownership class’s perverse incentives in our market structure & general cultural biases in media etc. Perfect storm of bullshit.
Back in 2023 I was telling people in my industry this stuff feels like the way opiate based “medicines” were being sold as cure-all’s in the 1800s. They mostly just made people feel “good” but didn’t solve most of the problems they were promised to solve. They were great at pain control but generally dangerous & unethical. Opiates have utility but have to be regulated & handled by trained specialists. I feel the same way about this stuff.

G6 - flowers
multiple pics taken with a random selection of filters
FQS - negative mode - before/after tweaks
First pic: the photo after adjusting.
Second pic (may need to open to expand to see the whole screenshot) was how the sunset was captured at first - screenshot of the parameters it was using by default. This was much darker than what it looked like IRL.
Third pic (expand to see all) shows what it looks like after adjusting only the exposure and low light sliders.
Long-neck diplo - two variations - anomalous planet
(battle stats unexceptional, didn’t capture)
Anomalous lighting on this planet, so the only shots that show them close to their actual colors are during a storm — hence the foggy photos.
But the info page shows it properly.
Last photo is what the planet looks like in daytime without a storm.
Stego-wolf - purple with gray skin-scales (no battle stats to note, just cool looking)
(weird that there's no 'wolf' or 'dog' flair)
