Vinyl Collection Before Downsizing

  1. Unbox Industries, 2. PIX!, 3. SuperPlastic, 4. Funko, 5. Mighty Jaxx, 6. Misc Video Game Figures, 7. Other Misc Figures

Hey guys. Given circumstances, I’m gonna have to start downsizing some of my collection of vinyls, particularly to make way for DesignerCon in a few months. Before I do that, though, I wanted to share the current state of my collection, both as a personal memo but also to garner thoughts on what may or may not be worth hanging on to. Thanks.

I’m in!

Got Duskbloods loaded onto my Switch 2 with no hassle. Just sat there taking in the menu music for like 10 minutes.

Now we play the wait game.

Is there any real merit to collecting YouTooz Figures?

Hey All. So something that I've taken notice of amidst my hobby of collecting vinyl figurines, indie toys and sofubi figures, is that alongside Funko Pops, there seems to be an indifferent or negative outlook towards YouTooz figures. I have become aware of some of the controversies around their production and distribution lines, but it seems like even online nobody cares to buy anything related to them, even secondhand.

While I don't agree with all their practices, I can't deny that I've found a few pretty cool figures for indie games and shows I'm a fan of that have some genuinely distinct and cool designs, and which don't cost quite as much as some other figure types from similar distributors. However, given this apparent view that the vinyl collectors market seems to hold towards YouTooz, I can't help but wonder if it's really worth it to continue collecting vinyls from this group, or if it'd be better to stop and cut my losses. Once again, I'm open to any discussion and insight you guys might have on the matter.

Should I start letting go of my Digital Circus Animiniz collection or is it worth it to hang on to them?

Hey friends. So admittedly things may have gotten slightly out of hand with my collecting habit these last few weeks. I'm still okay for now in a financial sense, but it's come to a point where I need to make some cutbacks. To that end, I've been weighing options on whether or not to give up parts of my vinyl figurine collection, which in this case mainly revolves around my series of Digital Circus Animiniz.

At this time, I have almost every figure in the Costume Adventure series, along with several in the Beach series and a few in the Sideshow series. Ideally I'd love to grab some figures from the upcoming Digital Friends series, but that may not be viable at this stage. While there are many other figurines that I own that would be easier for me to let go of, they would also be much more difficult to make a decent amount of money back on. Part of me does acknowledge that there are plenty of other wonderful fans out there that would be able to make the most out of these figurines, but there would still be a part of me that would miss them, considering these figurine lines are out of production and much tougher to grab.

I'd be open to conversation on the matter, but am looking for some genuine feedback on what would be the most appropriate step to take both as a person and as a fan. Thanks.

Took notice of massive toy presence at ComicCon- could this be a sign of the times to come?

Hey All. So to put it out there, I'm an independent illustrator and graphic novel publisher by trade, and I've been out of the ComicCon loop for some time. Having gone back this year, I couldn't help but notice the overwhelming presence of toys, plushies and vinyl figurines that have dominated the exhibit space at San Diego Comic Con this year. Where companies like Star Wars and Marvel once had the strongest grip on the convention floors, the largest space hogs in my opinion proved to be Mattel, Hasbro and even Lego.

It didn't stop at name brand toymakers- there has even proven to be a presence of vinyl figures in small press and artist's alley as well. Of course, I did think it was pretty cool that these independent comic makers were finding a bit of extra success selling figurines of their own characters, but I couldn't help but wonder if this could be a sign of the direction that entertainment might be taking. Everywhere I've gone, people have asked me if I have ever thought about making 3D prints of my own characters, which I had brushed off for the longest time before now.

To tat end, I wanted to inquire if anyone else had noticed this and had similar thoughts. Would you guys say that the market for action figures, dolls and vinyls is gradually making a comeback, and is this a potential market that I should genuinely consider getting into? Or would you say this is just a fad that is reaching a peak and may slope back to a wonderful niche market? I am welcome to conversation on the matter and appreciate any input you guys might have. Thanks.

Is it worth it to attend DesignerCon to find unique Sofubi and Vinyl Figures or to browse for online retail sites?

Hey All. So I've kinda been swept into the world of collecting vinyl figurines, figures and some sofubi toys as well. It's been a bit of a pinch on the wallet, but it's honestly been fun, and rewarding to tell which figures mean the most to me. To that end, I found myself catching some interest in the upcoming DesignerCon in Las Vegas, since I do not know of many distinct toy and figure expos that are occurring in the Arizona region where I am located.

I meant to ask, though, do you think it would be a wise move to spend the resources and travel for even one day in this convention just to bask in all these figures? Or would someone like myself be better off searching for the retail websites that these exhibitors use to look for their merchandise? Typically the designers I click with the most either don't have any retail websites or their figures tend to be out of stock very frequently. Even so, I can't help but feel that it's just as much of a gamble to go to Vegas for a day just for a chance to find incredible figures that I probably can't afford anyway. Hahaha!

I am open to conversation and would appreciate any input on the matter. As more of the figures I've acquired come in, I'll be sure to share the progress of my collection with the people on this wild and fun sub.

Any thoughts on when the new TADC merch will be available for Retail?

Hey all. So it probably goes without saying, but as a collector I’m hyped for the upcoming merch lines, particularly the Digital Friends Animiniz but also the Robbie Pendantz. Before I go in on ordering them online, though, I’m wondering if it may just be worth it to wait. I believe that when the Abstraction Animiniz were announced, they were on the shelved at Hot Topic almost a week after. Is that typical for the Digital Circus merch lines, or do they typically take longer to come out? Just wanna discuss to see if it’s worth it to wait until December to order these things on the storefront. Very open to all input on the matter though.

Is It Worth It to Collect Limited Stock Collectibles, Vinyls and Plushies as an Artist in my 30's?

Hey All. So I had recently posted on the possibility of reducing my collection habits, but after returning from San Diego Comic Con for business, I found myself becoming more and more enamored with collecting than before. I believe that recognizing the dominating presence of toy makers for both mainstream and independent creators got me thinking if this could be a major turn for the entertainment industry, and if it's something to consider investing in.

I will clarify that I don't just buy merchandise because it's available, but rather because I feel like I'm hanging on to something that's rare- particularly limited stock collectibles such as Animatez and Plushes, and recently YouTooz and Thrilljoy. I also make a point of only purchasing collectibles from franchises that I am personally interested in or which inspire me as an artist and independent illustrator. However, I do also recognize that as an adult man in my 30's, this might not be the most appealing hobby to get into, particularly with women (not that I collect anything lewd, but it could still be seen as childish)

Also, I recognize that there's never a guarantee that anything with inherent value now will retain that value in the future, and these collectibles are not exactly cheap in the first place. My finances are okay for now, but I worry that I may risk getting in over my head, whether I am able to make some money back from these collectibles or not. I do enjoy what I get, but am on the fence on if I should hang on to that joy, or if I should let it go and move on from this hobby (or at least let go of a large chunk of it). I am open to discussion and look forward to your input.

Current State of Glitch Collectibles and More- On The Fence if I should start Purging

Hey All. Not intending for this to be anything like a brag post, but more a step-back and recognition of the current state of my collection of Glitch Productions Merchandise. While there are a few pieces that I'm genuinely happy to have, I am reaching a point where I feel that I may be overdoing it (particularly with the fairly pricey pieces of merch that I have coming soon in the last slide). To that end, I wanted to put the current state of my collection out in the ether and get some insights on if there are pieces that are worth keeping or if some pieces are better off going to others who could have a better connection to them than I might as a young teacher/ illustrator in his 30's. I'm open to discussion and would welcome any input.
