A mid-game rant : got ending 001 and I'm a mess

Ok so, long story short, I had picked The Hundred Line as my summer holiday game but it turned out being so much longer than I thought. I've been completing routes one by one, but after 102 hours and 36 endings, I'm shelving the game for a few weeks/months because I'm getting a bit burned out. That said, I couldn't have picked a better last route right before putting the game on hiatus than I did.

I just got endings 001, 002 and 003. God I'm depressed.

For the reference, these are the routes I've done, in order :

- Mystery (with the exception of story lock 3)

- Comedy

- Romance

- Reached story lock 1 (planning to save this one for last as it sounds like the start of an Uchikoshi true ending route)

- Killing game

- Rebellion

- Second Scenario.

So uhhh

I guess now I have another good reason to shelve the game for a bit, which is that after the unspeakable truths I've learned, it's going to feel super weird coming back to routes where the characters don't have a single clue about those truths. So giving myself some time to digest all of that before a fresh new start is definitely needed.

After encountering story locks, seeing that most endings were a simple CG picture, and especially witnessing the comedy and romance routes as early as I did, I expected that the game was going to be a bunch of non-canon, sometimes not too serious endings, with a couple of "true" endings requiring more effort to reach via the story locks. I did NOT expect to just stumble on such a fleshed out climactic ending with full cutscenes and a new final battle, and EVEN less did I expect said ending to be the single most depressing thing I've played in my entire life. After 100 hours spent with those characters, hearing all of their final words and seeing Takumi finish off all of them one by one felt so bad man. Those crazy bastards also made sure we get the "narration by gameplay" thing, that's the best way to make me go through every existing human emotions in the span of minutes, have all of that happen directly in game. Especially my girl Tsubasa man. When I saw Takumi absorb her, after my ship wish coming true in the killing game route (in romance too I guess but that one was unserious), that fucking hurt

So then I guess Takumi and Nozomi are going to be the last remnants of humanity and at least get to hang out together as promised ? That would give such a poetic new meaning to that promise they- NO FUCK YOU HE DIES AS WELL

I mean, not gonna lie, that final cutscene with Nozomi and the Futuran children was beautiful, especially thinking about everything that happened, the truth about this war and the fact that every single person that was behind the war is now gone. It's poetic. But fuck I'm a mess.

And then of fucking course I had to instantly go back to do endings 2 and 3. 2 is arguably even worse (I mean, Takumi gets to bang some girls so yay I guess, but fuck there's a reason why the rebellion route was my first choice when I had to make the decision), but ENDING 003 MADE ME EVEN MORE DEPRESSED MAN. Eito is such an undecipherable character, and getting his point of view in the single saddest situation his character has been in... Fuck this, man.

Well, I'm going to bed. I'm not picking this game up again until I'm emotionally stable again. Thank to the Kodakoshi duo for ruining me I guess

Edit : oh I almost forgot. I SINCERELY HOPE THIS IS NOT THE TRUE ENDING. Like, if this is ending 001, I hope there's at least another ending that's as developed as this while being happier (maybe ending 100 ?)

I'm in late game now ! But there's so many things I can't find the answer for, please give me hints !

Ok, after my last post, I progressed ! I got into ghost form, explored the graveyard and cathedral, and did the quest to restore all my stats (highlight of the game so far btw, made me so glad to have taken notes !). Now I'm probably strong enough to give another go at the ghost fox lady (don't know what her name is in English), but I'm assuming it's the final boss and, like, there's so many unresolved things ! I tried to list all of them, if y'all would be so king as to give me gentle hints without completely telling the answer.

- The door in the mountains. It's the big one, that probably leads to a secret ending or something. If I understand correctly, I need to input a secret code that has something to do with the "golden itinerary", which the grid on page 49 is useful for. Can't figure out the rest though, I feel like I'm missing a sequence of numbers that, combined to the grid, will reveal the sequence of directions to input.

- The broken golden monolith in the southern forest. Again, I understand the full monolith had a pattern on it that reveals a sequence of inputs, and I've found two of the pieces near the entrance to the western garden, but I seem to be missing at least one more piece. I've probably found it a long time ago without taking note of it but now I'm unsure where to look for it.

- I can't figure out how to get back to the last section of the western garden, where there should be a warp pad for me to activate. There's this purple matter (which I'll call corruption, not sure if there's an official name) in the way, and I can't figure out any circumventing path.

- Similarly, now that I have the map of the eastern sanctuary, there should be a hidden path there that leads to a hidden western section of the forest fortress, and the spider area that's mapped on page 30 ; but there's corruption right in the alcove where the hidden path should be, so I can't do that either.

- In the manual I'm missing p.1 (which I'm assuming exists) and p.46-47. I got all the rest up to page 53 (the memos), not sure if there is any after that. I especially want page 47 because it seems to be about things on page 48 that I don't understand yet.

- Speaking of which, apart from the potion one, I haven't found the use of the secrets scribbled in the memos of page 52. I'm assuming they're all for secret treasures though, just like p.53, and I'm not planning on finding all of them. (For the reference, I have found number 1, 3, 5 and 6)

- I also remember finding a secret room in the first area that had a bunch of panel thingies that made a sound when I passed behind them. No idea where it is though, I've completely forgotten. I'm assuming this is for a secret treasure too.

- Oh, also, the last thing I did was find two friendly fairies (in the old house, and at that rotating block I had found when starting the game) and I don't know what it accomplished. Maybe something to do with the fairy council thingy on page 48 ?

I think that's all of them. Again, there's so many secret treasures that I don't feel like hunting down all of them, but I do want to visit all the areas (whatever's behind the mountain door, and that spider one). Thanks in advance !

EDIT : Finished the game ! Thanks everyone !

Got the 3 keys. Anything important I could have missed before progressing further ?

Title basically. I just beat the matriarch after the Ziggurat, but I've had this lingering feeling that I'm rushing through the game and missing like half of the content. I mean, I'm trying to explore as much as you can, and I think I'm doing pretty good in terms of upgrades & potions ; but there are a bunch of areas where I seem to need some sort of flying/jump ability (the checkpoint in the Quarry, that pillar in the southeast, the manual page sitting in the river of the starting area, another one in the beach below the starting bridge...). Plus, I've explored several areas I didn't have the map of (Ziggurat, eastern sanctuary) and am almost certain I must have missed those. And then there's the contrary too, areas I have the map of but haven't been to. There's the warp pad in the western garden I haven't been able to find too, no idea where it is. And then there's the avatar's grave, I've found 5 out of 6 entrances but have no clue if there's supposed to be any kind of possible interaction there...

Basically, since I got all 3 keys and can now insert them in the Temple for whatever happens next, I'm getting a bit afraid that I'm approaching the end of the game. So if there's any of these points that I'm "supposed" to have done already, or at least that I could have, please give me gentle nudges. And I'd also like to know if I'm like almost at the end or something, since with the way the game tells as little as possible, I can definitely see myself reaching the end without seeing it coming if I push through without a second thought. Thanks !

My favourite section of EVERY Nightwish song !

Hi folks, it's time for my yearly Nightwish hyperfixation and guess what I made this time

Ever since I made my "Nightwish but only the song titles" video, I've had this idea of doing a "Nightwish, but only my favourite section of every single song" video. Well, here it is ! For all 131 songs, I singled out my favourite individual section (usually between 10-25 seconds, sometimes more if the song is long). Hope you enjoy, it was fun and very refreshing to work on because it really forced me to appreciate every song for what it is, even those I often skip. Obviously the chosen parts are just my opinions, feel free to share yours !

Every song ranked by how good their title drop is

Just a silly idea I had thinking about how much I love the title drop in Slaying the Dreamer. Every Nightwish song ranked by how much I like their title drop if the title shows up in the lyrics. Titles of both songs and albums are taken into account (that's why Devil & the Deep Dark Ocean, The Poet & the Pendulum and Storytime are where they are instead of "no title drop").

This is NOT a tier list of general opinions about the songs themselves, just the exact moments where the title is delivered ! Though obviously it depends a lot on how sensible I am to the melody, but I tried to take into account the originality/element of surprise as much as possible, especially for the top of the list.

"Wrong song bro" is for songs that drop the title of another song in their lyrics. Respectively Ocean Soul (2x), Storytime, and Ad Astra.

Here's my shot at a 10-set version of Rhythm Heaven Groove

https://preview.redd.it/ngsedwis1xgh1.png?width=1140&format=png&auto=webp&s=231ecbbed17fb7bb2d54a56c32a5ba89bac4c300

I somewhat agree with the sentiment I've seen that several of the sequels feel a little bit forced and don't bring anything new, and are just kinda there for the purpose of every minigame having one ; and I also feel that some of the frontside minigames feel more like prequels, with the 2nd version being the actual interesting minigame. I'm obviously very content with the game as is, but since I've seen many people do that already, I wanted to also take a shot at reducing the number of non-remix minigames from 60 to 40, for the traditional 10-sets formula that DS and Fever had. Here's my personal proposition, feel free to discuss !

I just had to entirely take out 2 minigames in both their versions, so that I could get 7 sets of 4 base minigames. I chose Yum Bot and Can Do, since they're my personal least favourites and I don't find them that interesting. All 28 other minigames have at least 1 version of them that remains on this list !

Do you consider this to be symphonic metal ?

Just asking because it would change what my first exposure to the best music genre technically was haha

2 and a half routes in, all weapons are lvl 13-14. Here's my combat tier list.

https://preview.redd.it/1vzfwsl3lmeh1.png?width=1140&format=png&auto=webp&s=190cb65e937b2e2eea62fa6c5ac77e11260d8d5d

So far I've done the mystery and comedy routes, have encountered locks 1 and 3, and am working through what I assume will be called harem route. Anyways, I didn't want to do a personality-based character ranking, because some of them are just so different from route to route. Instead, here's a combat-based tier list.

For context, I'm just now starting to max out certain attacks, which is going to be super beneficial to those whose base attack deals 1 damage, especially Tsubasa. But I wanted to make a ranking based on how useful each character has been so far before maxing out their attacks.

- Eva is the most broken character by far and can solo a ton of stuff. She has such a wide variety of ranges that her moving bonus is basically free to use, I can easily solo an entire group of enemies in 1 turn with her most of the time.

- Kyoshika is also op so far, with the "alone enemy" bonus being easy to trigger. Her base attacks is very versatile, I can both get rid of trash mobs and deal good damage to stronger ones at the same time with it

- Takumi is almost on the very top too, for the same reasons as Eva (very versatile and good damage) but slightly less

- Hiruko basically solo's all the bosses. Give everyone last yell before then and she wipes out an entire boss health bar in 1 to 2 turns

- I haven't used Eito for a while now but from what I remember he was the most powerful in the first route

- Kako goes brrr with her long-ranged oneshots

- Takemaru is almost on the upper tier because his tank ability is quite a strong one. But once the trash mobs are dealt with, I usually have better options to deal with the stronger ones.

- Tsubasa is one of the best for dealing with trash mobs, but a lot of the fights where there are a lot of stronger enemies I don't use her much. I probably need to use her buff abilities more, but as you can probably tell from this chart, I have trouble putting the buff abilities to good use, I'd rather use that AP for an attack instead

- Ima's flight ability is another thing I'm probably not using enough, most of the time I'm afraid he's just gonna get gang-banged next enemy turn if I go behind the enemy army.

- Moko deals good damage but, again, why would I use her self-buff instead of just striking twice ? I feel like my options with her are kinda limited even though she's still very useful

- Shouma usually just tanks the enemies in the first turn, sometimes riposts with an omega punch if there are strong mobs left in the vicinity, and then kinda just sits there for the rest of the fight.

- Similarly, Gaku is great for getting rid of large quantities of trash mobs, but that's kinda it.

- Kurara's turrets are proven very handy several times, especially the shooting ones, but once they're constructed she's pretty useless

- Darumi & Yugamu are characters that don't have a lot of attack power while also having less range than other characters like Gaku or Tsubasa. Both need to use a move first before doing good damage on the next action, so I have trouble using them efficiently most of the time.

- I haven't needed Nozomi's healing for quite a while now, only sometimes in expeditions. So I just use her to one-shot an UFO for time to time, otherwise... Well, especially since I discovered the beauty and wonder of Last Yell, I haven't needed a healer at all haha

Obviously it's just my experience with the game so far and it will probably change a lot, especially with maxed attacks, but I'm curious to hear your thoughts and disagreements !

Every main mini-game of each entry sorted by category

(Reposted due to several errors in the original picture !)

I tried my best to sort every solo minigame in the series by category/playstyle, depending on how most of the minigame plays. There are mainly 4 of them :

- Cue-based : the game is based on several different sound cues, sometimes accompanies by corresponding visual cues, that each require you to react in a different way. It is by far the most common type of minigame in the series.

- Keep the beat : the core of the minigame is being able to keep pressing the button in sync with the beat. Usually, other cues to react to or things like tempo changes or stops are thrown in as well to keep things varied. A rarer version of that, which I put as a separate category in entries that have it, is "keep the beat with a partner" where you will press the button once every two beats, with a partner character doing the same action every other beat. (Air rally is the best example of that).

- Last note : you're the last one in a line, and you have to input the last beat/note in a series of several. Hoop trundling being the most obvious example. Sometimes, the difference with cue-based can be blurry, especially in 2 minigames (The Dazzles and Cheer Readers) which combine that idea with different cues. I contemplated putting those in Hybrid but eventually decided to keep them in that category.

- Simon says : you listen to a certain rhythmic sequence and input it as identical as possible.

- Hybrid / unsortable : the few minigames that either don't really fall in any of these categories, or are a mix of two of them that (imo) doesn't really lean one way or the other. Crop stomp, for example, equally elements of "keep the beat" and "cue-based". Other games like Super Samurai Slice or Feeding the Beast are hard to categorized between cue-based and Simon says.

I wanted to make that list because I wanted to verify that my feeling that Groove has a LOT of cue-based minigames even compared to other games, was founded. Turns out it is indeed true ! Not only that, but many games of other categories are from the flipside, so the frontside has a vast majority of cue-based minigames.

I think that's it, feel free asking me if you're unsure why a specific minigame is sorted in the category where it is

So what's the problem with the final remix ?

I just reached and beat Groove's remix 20 and I was expecting it to be lackluster since I've read many disappointed comments about it, like I was expecting it not to follow the tradition to include medley music or not to have all the minigames or something. But I literally can't see anything that makes it inferior to the final remixes of previous entries. Is it literally just because the music goes a little less hard or something ? As far as I'm concerned, it's a worthy final remix

It's tier list tuesday ! Here's my ranking of all the AA characters (except PLvPW which I didn't play)

In case you can't tell, I kinda like the main roster of TGAA

Any questions are welcome, I really went with my gut feeling for a lot of these, especially minor characters which depended on how fondly I remember them

Games that are titled after the name of their protagonist, but it's not obvious when you haven't played the game (or even after, in the case of Ico).

Suggestions are welcome !

Games with a specific part that suddenly reminds you the dev/studio has experience with horror games

These games were made by devs who had made horror games before, but they're not horror games themselves - except for that part. Open to suggestions if you can think of any !

Need a hint on Stoneship age

Hi, so I haven't played in a week because last time I played I felt stumped on the Stoneship age.

Here's where I am : I've explored all the rooms accessible from the start, picked up a page or two (don't remember unfortunately if I got both pages or only the blue or red one), managed to solve the barrel puzzle and got to the electricity power device that lets me light up the inside. It doesn't light up the ship though, where it's dark and I can't interact with anything. I found the other rooms with all the buttons, IIRC there is a north marking on one of them but that doesn't tell me which one to press without turning off the power (or what those buttons are even supposed to do). My only thought was pressing the ones in the direction of those underwater probes I can see through the glass, but it isn't it. Since there's some sort of direction involved, I assume it could have something to do with the telescope on top, but I don't seem to be able to interact with it other that rotating it, which I don't know what that does.

Anyways, that's where I am. I'm almost certain the next step is to figure out what button to press but I'm going to need a hint or two to figure out the logic/what I'm missing. Thanks !

Update on Gabbro living their best life on my island

A few weeks ago I posted about putting Gabbro on my Tomodachi Life island and teaching them to play Outer Wilds. Well, after a few weeks, they're married (yes, their wife is Samus Aran) and they just got a daughter ! Here's the scene with her first words which was an absolutely insane coincidence haha. Her name is Diorite Aran btw

Top listened songs of all time anyone ?

Spotify just showed me this playlist of my most listened songs of all time (which is since 2020). I assume everyone has one so I was curious how many/which symphonic metal songs you guys have in your top 10.

Personally I'm not surprised by my number 1, a bit more by Abyss of Time being by far my most listened Epica song, and even more by Perfume of the Timeless being in the top 10 (I must really have listened to that song on repeat a LOT when it came out haha)

Games to discover through VR mods ?

Hey, so I'm trying to put my Quest 2 to good use apart from playing a lot of Beat Saber and after doing a (fucking amazing) run of Outer Wilds in VR. I had already played the game normally though, and it was already amazing, but it got me wondering if there are any games that I could use a VR mod on for my actual first run.

My PC is pretty medium-end though. I got an RTX3050, which was just enough to make the Outer Wilds mod playable by putting the graphics basically as low as possible.

As for my tastes, I like games that focus on exploration, especially ones that are not a gigantic open world but a more contained experience (examples I love being Outer Wilds, Dark Souls, Lunacid, metroidvanias in general etc). I'm normally cool with action games but I don't know how practical they tend to be in VR - also, I usually don't like shooters, at least when there's ammo management. There are exceptions though, like Prey, another example of a game I loved thanks to the exploration aspect of it. Also motion sickness doesn't seem to be a problem with any game I've played so far.

So yeah looking for some recommendations for games that aren't VR but have good enough VR mods to use them for a unique first playthrough. Thanks in advance !

The tier list of every metroidvania I've played (I think)

Metroidvanias have been my favourite genre for a while now, but it's also a genre that can be really hit-or-miss. I believe I've put every game I've played that I consider to be a metroidvania here, including the few ones I never finished, but if I think I haven't played a game enough to have an opinion on it, I made a tier for that. Also every tier is unsorted, because I'm still physically unable to pick a favourite between HK, Silksong and Super Metroid.

Some of those I've played quite a while ago and never replayed so I'm mainly going off of how good of a memory I have of them. Though many of them are still fresh in my mind. Will gladly answer any questions, remember it's just a personal opinion and I know all of the ones I liked less (apart from, you know, that one) have plenty of things to enjoy about them but they just were less of my type of game

S : pantheon, some of my favourite games of all time period

A : great experiences that I'm willing to replay countless times

B : liked the game, but either didn't impress me or there were things I disliked about it

C : enjoyed on several aspects, but either forgettable or didn't like the actual gameplay

D : didn't like
