I wish I could move out

Sorry if this doesn't fit this subreddit.

I'm a lifelong nyc resident, unfortunately. Went to school and college here. I've been stuck in a shitty retail job for years now ever since graduating. Barely 2 grand a month take home. Can't even qualify for any shelter. Would be a homeless beggar without my parents

What the hell am I supposed to do with my degree now?

Computer science degree, years out of graduation and no interviews for anything remotely related to tech. I can't enter any type of dev job at this point, with AI and everything and that's mostly the only thing I can upskill with at home. And I can't afford another degree to learn a new skill set. So what? Do I just die?

How can I find hope in my life?

I don't understand how to be an adult, honestly. I don't understand how to get a job.

Anything unskilled tends to pay 30-40k, which isn't enough to survive on.

That's why I went to college - computer science unfortunately, but I did internships and projects to build skills to hopefully be able to make 50k-65k out of school. I couldn't, and was forced back to go to 30-40k ass retail five years later.

Now the skills I got from there are essentially useless so I'm back at square one. The point of entry level was always to build fucking experience and skills? Experience is the best teacher.

Now I have basically no work experience because it's almost all related to the major. All I have is swe internships, customer service and sales experience. Fucking nothing. And it's terrible advice to do another education - who has the money for that in my situation? I certainly don't.

If I can't support myself from working full time, why should I even work at all? Why shouldn't I just become a lazy sod playing games in my parents' basement for the rest of my life, why shouldn't I drop out of society as a whole?

I can't enter a new job anymore, at all. What should I do?

I regret taking out loans for college

I regret going to college ENTIRELY. I got a fucking computer science degree, did projects, did internships, FOR WHAT? To be stuck making under 40k in a useless ass shitty retail job in a hcol area for years after graduating? To get no interviews for years after graduating?

I shouldn't have gone. And I won't be doing another education. I can't support myself from working full time with this job. I might as well just give up on the concept of working entirely. Just becoming a loser playing league and COD in my parents' basement.

If I didn't have a younger brother I'd be committed into prison for multiple felonies by now.

I'm thinking about wrapping up my "career" tbh.

Computer science grad w/ some internship experience unable to enter any field. No interviews for a long time. won't be doing another education.

I'm thinking about just moving on. Been working retail after graduation. It pays a slavery wage. If I can't even support myself from working full time, why should I work? It's not really worth my time to. Might as well not.

If I can't even support myself from working full time, why should I work?

I can't move out off minimum wage retail after college so it's not like I'm reaping any rewards. I barely bring in 2000 a month. Wasted money on a fucking computer science degree, I won't be doing more education. do not talk about "working more hours", it's not worth the goddamned effort.

One way or another my parents will feed and house me, and I can't house myself. No money. So why should I work?

Should I just quit my job? When it's not leading anywhere?

There's not enough room in my income for a life tbh.

There's not enough room in a take home of roughly 2 grand a month for shelter, a food, and a car. Let alone savings.

I'm in a hcol area so I don't need a car, but in turn rents are even more expensive. If I was in a LCOL area it's very likely I'd have to use a car to get to work which would cancel out any potential savings from lower rents. And that's assuming I could get a job in a place like that - which I can't.

I'd be a homeless beggar without my parents.

I can't support myself working full time. I can't make much above the (local) minimum wage after college. Cs degree. And this job isn't going to be a stepping stone to anything.

Of course things will only get more expensive and my income won't be increasing the same amount. So it's a losing battle. And I'll be getting older and older so it'll be harder and harder to do this job. And I wouldn't be able to save a single penny from working.

What a joke, honestly. I can see why the viral Abdul guy from California did what he did a few months ago. It was fitting too, the land of the tech bros. I sympathize, heavily.

Time is not on the side of young people today. We shouldn't have children. Not anymore. No child deserves to enter this. They won't be able to "figure it out."

All the while our economy is in the verge of fucking exploding. Young people don't have any margin, any room for error remaining.

I'm considering quitting my retail job

Don't really know why I'm staying. Wasted years after college here, not by choice of course. I'm thinking about blowing 20k, maybe upwards of 50k on lotto tickets. Every penny I have saved. I have a better chance of winning that than getting a decent job tbh.

We need to stop pretending we need to keep pumping out new babies to replace the workforce.

It's been made very clear that that's a lie. The current generation is struggling to even enter the workforce, they get told "no one owes you a job", they get told to "get another degree", they get told "you should've gotten more internships" as if that's easier done than said.

Entry level roles have existed ever since Mesopotamia in some form to ensure society can continue. They don't exist anymore.

More and more people are unable to afford minimal livings, the world has turned into an apocalyptic hellzone, we've reached Gilded Age levels of inequality. If not worse.

People my age shamed for "not having enough experience or connections" as if it's a felony, while simultaneously told that we're not owed anything and told that we must have babies so the workforce has enough people.

I just wish this world would end. Humanity needs an impetus to change, and despair has always been the driving factor for that all throughout history. Despair is why civilizations form, and despair is why civilizations end.

In a way we're normalizing despair and hopelessness in our current youth to pay for society's future. It's backwards. No sane person sees that and doesn't see the hypocrisy, the problem.

This despair will cause change, but due to us not having power to do anything it'll be for the worse. Because the individual person is unable to understand another, because the individual cannot see beyond three feet ahead. Because the individual is **terrified** at the realization that many of us can end up just like another with a slightly different draw of the cards.

This must end. I'm sick and tired of pretending it should continue. Our society has decayed far beyond repair. The only thing left to do is burn the current status quo to cinders and start anew on the ashes. We will make the same mistakes, because history always rhymes. Unless you advocate for extinction as a whole, which I do, this will happen again, and again, and again.

An external force ending this cycle is the only way things can heal in the long term. The best way to stop a problem is to ensure it won't happen. You don't have to worry about your child's health if you never had a child. The same applies to our reality as a whole. Zero is the best policy.

I'm terrified of this economy. What do I do?

I'm making the same wage some teenagers do at their first jobs now as a cs grad with internship experience in a job utterly irrelevant to what I majored in. I can't enter any field anymore.

I'm making barely above the local minimum wage. If I wasn't with familial support I'd be a homeless beggar out on the streets. Not what I envisioned from working a full time job. And it's not going to help me get anywhere.

There is not enough room in 2000~ a month take home for a car, shelter, and food. Dear fucking Christ.

My work history is far more impressive than what people had when entering the job market in the 2010s (not everyone, obviously, but from what I've seen), yet I can't even get a goddamned interview to save my life.

I can't afford to do another education and even then, there's not much guarantee things won't change again by the time I graduate. Outside of healthcare related things. Asking someone to take out student loans a second time is not a good sell... And I've already used up most possible financial aid.

I'm horrified. I'm very fearful for the even more dismal prospects of the current kids. And let's not act as if "they'll be better than me", many won't. We were kids too, you know. I'm sure the same was said of us back in the day.

I'm too petrified to even spend a dollar. I wish I had the money to get addicted to drugs, fucking honestly. I'd have crashed out and become a repeat felon a long time ago if I didn't have my brother to worry about...

I'm not cut out for life

I can't start a career. I can't even make much above minimum wage after college. After doing internships. After building projects. After working so hard in and out classes to learn, build skills and get a good gpa.

The only reason I'm not committing felonies right now is because I have my brother to look after. The only reason either of us are even housed is because we have parents. I'd be a homeless beggar out on the streets without them. I can't make above poverty wages.

I can't get a job and even if I did the struggle will never end to have to keep on keeping on.

I just wanted to move out. I just wanted to be able to support myself. I just wanted to be a self reliant adult.

I'm crying. Even with my brother around I don't know how much longer I can hold on for. I wish I had the money to get addicted to drugs.

My life's falling apart tbh

I can't build experience without a job, I can't get a job without experience. It doesn't feel like I'm qualified to be entering any industry.

I have a cs degree, swe internships, some customer service and sales experience. I wasn't a fucking lazy ass that did the bare minimum during college. What more can I fucking do? I've gotten a 0% response rate from applications for years now, and when I ask for feedback on my resume I'm told that I'm a solid entry level candidate.

What more can I FUCKING DO? If I'm trying to get a tech job, replacing one project for another on my resume isn't impactful and that's not even applicable to any other field. I'm open to any options I have, but I can't get a fucking chance.

I'm making fucking 35k/year in a hcol city. I'd be a beggar out on the streets w/o my parents. I can't afford to restart with another whole education.

I'm on the verge of crashing out. I'd be committing felonies if I didn't have my brother to look after.
