why do some rocks sparkle and others are just dull and boring

I was hiking last weekend and picked up a rock that had little shiny flecks all through it. Looked almost like glitter but natural. My friend said it was probably mica. Then two feet away I found another rock that was just gray and nothing. Same trail same general area. Why the huge difference? Is it just about what minerals were present when the rock formed or does something else decide which rocks get the sparkle upgrade

Also is there an easy way to tell if shiny flecks are mica versus something like pyrite without licking the rock like a weirdo

What's something you do completely differently from how you were taught and it just works better for you?

Could be cooking, studying, exercising, anything. The thing where you looked at the "right" way and quietly decided your version made more sense

Vets must deal with one of the hardest emotional balances in medicine

I honestly think being a vet has to be emotionally exhausting in ways people don’t fully realize.

You’re treating animals who can’t explain what’s wrong, trying to reassure worried owners, making difficult medical decisions, and sometimes dealing with heartbreaking outcomes even when you did everything possible.

colorado springs custom home build quotes all over the place and im getting desperate

im in colorado springs and finally have the lot cleared with permits almost done for our 2600 sq ft custom build but the quotes ive seen range from reasonable to insane and winter is coming fast so this whole process has me stressed...

after some neighbors gave strong recommendations and seem solid on keeping projects on time and budget around here.

what caught you off guard most during your custom build in this area and what one detail do you wish you had pushed harder on early?

really appreciate any heads up guys

Tooth hurts when biting after a filling - normal?

I had a filling done about a week ago and now that tooth feels sore when I bite down.

It’s not constant pain, just pressure.

Is this something that usually settles on its own, or should I go back and get it checked?

Toyota Finance declined me in 10 minutes. A broker got me approved 2 hours later — how does that even work?

Toyota Finance declined me in 10 minutes. A broker got me approved in 2 hours. I genuinely don't understand how that's possible

So this happened yesterday and I'm still kind of in shock. Went to a Toyota dealership to buy a RAV4 hybrid. Got excited, picked the colour, did a test drive, the whole thing. Then they ran my finance application and literally 10 minutes later the guy comes back and says "sorry, we can't help you." No explanation. Nothing.

I drove home feeling like an idiot. My credit isn't perfect, I had a late payment about 18 months ago during a rough patch, but I'm employed full time, been at the same job 3 years, no other debts.

My mate mentioned he used a finance broker, last year so I figured why not. Called one up, explained the situation. He didn't make me feel like a moron, just asked some questions and said he'd see what he could do. Two hours later he calls me back and says he's got two lenders willing to approve me.

I pick up the car on Saturday. Still confused by how car finance works in Australia tbh. Didn’t realise different lenders could look at the exact same situation so differently. Not complaining though, just glad I’m getting the car lol.

At what age did you realize your parents were just figuring it out as they went?

There was a specific moment for me. I was maybe 24 and called my dad about something I was stressed about and he just said "I have no idea, I'd probably panic too." Something shifted after that

Okay so I keep going in circles on this. Sometimes I'm really good about seeing the same dentist for years, same office, same hygienist, they know my whole tooth drama. But then life gets busy or I need something last minute, and I just book whoever has an opening near me.

So my question is... does it actually matter?

Like, am I doing myself a disservice by bouncing around? Or is regular care the main thing and the dentist's name doesn'treally matter?

I was looking at networks where you can see different locations but your records stay in one system. That seems like a decent middle ground? Not the same as one dentist who remembers my weird wisdom tooth situation though.

Curious what everyone else does. Do you stay loyal to one family dentist for years or just take whoever's available when you need 'em?

I’ve been applying to jobs for months and I’m getting almost no replies at all. My resume seems fine to me, but clearly it’s not doing the job. What am I doing wrong? How do you make your applications actually reach real hiring managers instead of disappearing? Is it worth paying someone professional to fix your resume and LinkedIn? Or are there easy free ways that really work? I’m in Grand Rapids, Michigan and I know that there's a company vmsolu that’s been helping with resumes, should i try to contact them and ask for help because i'm already tired.

Should I try a pro service or keep tweaking things myself? Any real tips that actually worked for you? I’m feeling stuck and would love honest advice on what to do next.

I swear before going vegan I never noticed how much literally every social event revolves around meat/dairy. Family dinners, birthdays, work lunches, dating, holidays, random snacks people bring into the office… it’s everywhere.

What surprised me most wasn’t even the food part, it was how emotionally weird people can get about it. Like you quietly order oat milk once and suddenly someone thinks you’re judging their entire existence 😭

I genuinely expected the hardest part to be cravings, but honestly the social aspect ended up being way more exhausting sometimes.

Quick question for anyone who’s moved their website to a dedicated server:
What’s the best step-by-step way to do this without killing my rankings? I keep hearing horror stories about DNS propagation taking forever or the site going down for hours.

Any pro tips on the actual migration (files, database, SSL, emails)? Tools you used?

Thanks.

Update: I found some really good instructions, followed them, and everything went smoothly. No downtime issues so far.

I’m planning a trip to Paris this summer, and while I’m doing all the typical tourist stuff, I really want to spend a few days shooting some "run-and-gun" street style footage. I’m talking a small setup, just me, a handheld camera, and maybe a compact tripod. I know Paris is strict about filming around landmarks, but I’m looking for advice on how to stay under the radar while still getting high-quality shots. I’m trying to keep this on a budget, so I can't really afford a €500 permit for a 10-minute shot. Any tips for a solo traveler trying to capture the "real" Paris without getting into trouble?

We're heading to Iceland in September and really want to spend a couple nights right by the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. Seeing the icebergs at sunrise and sunset is high on our list and we want that peaceful vibe without driving far every day.

I found some solid hotel options listed super close to the lagoon. Im leaning towards either Hotel Jokulsarlon for the hot tubs and views or Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon.

Has anyone stayed around there lately? Which one would you recommend for the best experience? Any tips on booking or things we should know?

Let me know what you think.

I'm planning my first Iceland trip this summer and Vik looks like the perfect base for the South Coast without spending a fortune on Reykjavik hotels. I want something simple with free parking and a kitchen so I can cook and save on meals while still being close to the black sand beach and waterfalls.

I checked out guidetoIceland and they list solid budget picks like The Fox Hostel at around $61 a night with free WiFi, a full kitchen, and a pizzeria right there plus The Barn Hostel for about $86 that has dorms and private rooms with parking and tour desks. Anyone stayed in these or found better cheap options around there?

I’ve been doing push ups at home for a while but it feels a bit unstructured, some days I do a lot, some days barely anything, and I’m not sure if I’m actually building strength or just staying the same

for people who got noticeable results, how did you structure it, like sets, reps, rest days, progression etc

what actually made the difference for you over time?

Im nowhere near playing arenas obviously but just watching the industry rn is so exhausting. like every single major tour gets swallowed by scalper bots in literally two seconds. then real fans are stuck paying 5x the price and they end up getting mad at the artists like it's our fault.

it's just a broken system. ticketmaster is basically useless and just collecting their insane fees while the bots run wild. i was reading about how some artists are trying to bypass it, like Anderson Paak just announced a gig using World Network so that only actual verified humans can get through the queue and buy stuff

source: https://people.com/dj-pee-wee-to-perform-surprise-concert-with-st-vincent-in-san-francisco-11952072

it's cool that people are figuring out workarounds but it shouldn't even be this hard tbh. the major ticketing sites have billions of dollars, they could fix the bot problem tomorrow if they actually cared. makes you wonder what the point is sometimes when the whole live music scene feels like a giant tech scam. just venting cause seeing fans get ripped off daily is getting old fast.

I’m 35, been in customer service and retail management for over a decade, and I’m seriously thinking about switching into HR or business admin. I don’t have any formal qualifications beyond high school and going back to uni full-time just isn’t realistic with bills to pay.

A few months ago I started a Level 3 Diploma in Business Administration. It’s fully online and self-paced so I can do it around my full-time job. The content feels practical and the tutor feedback has been helpful when I’ve needed it.

I’m wondering how much these accredited online diplomas actually help when you’re trying to change careers at this age. Do employers take them seriously or do they still see them as “online only”?

Has anyone here done a similar learndirect course (or another UK provider) and successfully moved into a new field? How long did it take you to finish and how much difference did the qualification make when applying for jobs?

There’s a lot of focus on diets, calories, supplements, and trends, but I feel like some of the simplest nutrition habits might actually make the biggest difference long-term.

What’s one nutrition habit that seems small but has a major impact on health over time?
