Any Way to Stop Plating from Turning my Hands Green?

Just got my marching baritone at college last night and am on day 2 of band camp and we don't use gloves (at least currently for rehearsals and stuff) and mine has a bunch of rubbed off plating so with sweating and sunscreen it ends up turning my hands green and then is quite hard to wash off.

Any tips on how to prevent this or easy ways to get the green off? I would just use my own gloves but I wasn't expecting this to be an issue and so I am moved in away from home now without gloves and am quite a distance from home without a car and a bit of a distance from a music shop to get some.

Goal of At Least Trying Out For Drum Major Jr/Sr yr of College, Tips on How to Learn?

So I am about to be entering my freshman year and first year in university marching band and am super excited- I play marching baritone hi low brass :)

Anyway, it has always been a dream of mine to be drum major for a marching band- I had planned to try out my jr year of high school however was then selected for leadership for my section and decided I wanted my time spent there. So, I never got the high school band experience of being a drum major or even getting to go to the tryout workshops.

Now I know obviously every college is different but mine has an incredibly large band (I think upwards of 400) and then 3 drum majors. As I am required to march my instrument for 2yrs for my music education major, I thought in the meantime just when I have free time I can try to learn how to conduct marching band style (great terminology I know).

So that's where I come here because I am not sure where I would find good resources on where to learn this as I know the very very bare basics of how to but then nothing more than that. And pleasee no debbie-downers in the comments saying "You'll have waited too long! It's not worth it!" I have to learn conducting and marching band style conducting anyway because I am a music education major with goals of having my own marching band at the school I would teach at so I have to learn anyway and this would just give me a leg up. I also need to get my performance/audition anxiety under control so giving myself another thing to audition for helps me there too.

Thank you in advance for any advice you can lend me as I am pretty bad at replying to comments! Happy marching season :)

Gig Bags

I'm about to be leaving for college and have waited far too long now to order a gig bag whoopsie and so I am trying to figure out kind of how it works for gig bags as I don't hardly know anything about them. Had a professor at my university say that gig bags for euphoniums are essentially universal one-size-fits-all, is this true? Are all gig bags backpack ones or do I need to look for those specifically?

If it helps at all, I am currently playing on a Yamaha Neo YEP-642TSII and I have roughly a $200ish budget on this gig bag.

Thank you in advance as I am horrible at replying to comments!

(Also as I was copying and pasting the model it tried throwing a link in there to the yamaha website- I think I got rid of it but if that is popping up on this post just ignore it :)

Just for Fun, Share Opinions on Your Potential Future Catholic Wedding?

So I am 18F and kind of just want to ask this for fun and just to kind of see how other people feel about some of what goes into Catholic weddings even though I don't plan to be getting married anytime soon lol. (Most of this is all yes I know the whole purpose and how sacred marriage is and it should stay that way but hey maybe a girl wants a little fun)

It's really my biggest dream to have a cathedral wedding, we have a gorgeous cathedral in town that is just again my absolute dream. However it's where I see videos online of people who have weddings like just at venues with an officiant y'know and they add all sorts of fun stuff into their ceremony and it's like yes I know it's supposed to be sacred but gosh maybe I want a nighttime wedding with sparklers or better yet lightsabers.

I think one of the biggest parts for me is that we aren't allowed to have our own vows that we wrote, again yes the sacred traditional vows are so incredibly special, but I also feel like as someone who loves pouring her heart out I want to have my own little portion of the vows for my husband and I to read to each other as well because I think that that adds to that promise and it's not just repeating the words that everybody else does y'know.

I think my final piece is that I would give up my cathedral wedding if I ended up marrying a man who wasn't catholic or has beliefs in another religion or none at all. I think it would just be the most respectful then to have a regular officiated wedding where we can try to work in different aspects of each other's faiths (if he would have one) because I think just recognizing that we are all still believing essentially in the same thing is the most important of all.

But all of this random yapping to say, maybe Catholic weddings should somehow get to be a bit more fun? Though I could also save it all for the reception as I bust it down on the dance floor :) Anyway, would love to hear everything that you all dream of for your future weddings because I am hopelessly yearning currently and just imagining my beautiful cathedral wedding.

I think my hygientist "hit a tooth wrong" while cleaning

Okay so I am 18F and so just transitioning out of my pediatric dentistry office and so after my family found a new office to go to that takes our insurance, I just now started going there. I had my first cleaning with them yesterday morning and they were saying that basically I had a TON of tartar buildup and so the hygienist had to do a "pre-gingivitis cleaning" and so was getting the tartar off with what I believe was a water pik thing but idk it felt more like a nail drill in my mouth to me. There was one tooth that I guess had a really hard piece that was quite painful and sensitive to get off because it was apparently going into my gums but he did get it out, however now a day later, the tooth is feeling sensitive. Not the same sensitive where like "oh no I don't want to chew food on that side for right now" no this is like temperature sensitivity alongside soreness.

So now I guess I am just worried that the drill or whatever the hygienist used like filed too much and hit enamel? I don't know teeth anatomy and all that so that's kind of why I'm coming here. If it is something where something is actually now wrong with that tooth, I guess I am trying to also figure out if we were to sue(?) then I guess like because I technically wasn't taking good enough care of my teeth does that hold me responsible as they were just doing their job cleaning? I can admit that I am not the greatest about flossing, I do try to quite often but just no matter what I have the most sensitive gums so it is a little hard for me to and so a fairly often I just don't feel like putting myself through that but I am looking at getting myself a water flosser that can hopefully help. (edit in googling photos to reference what healthy vs like non-healthy gums looks like, I am lowkey soo confused because mine have looked like the "healthy" photos but then obviously this whole situation and just that throughout my childhood too my pediatric dentists would say that my gums were puffy and bad but I have never seen them "puffy"). I also brush my teeth twice a day along with if I feel any sort of texture forming on my teeth from the food I ate during the day. So I am really trying to put in my part yet I also am kind of blaming myself.

I don't know how relevant this info is but I know that some places like to make stuff up that isn't actually a problem because the practice itself seemed like it wanted our money, as I had to go in for x-rays on a separate day before my cleaning and then the main doctor came and only used a mirror and like something else but not a sharp something like the scrapey hook (I hope you love my terminology) and then apparently just naturally my gums were bleeding from that, which I highly doubt, and then they tried to sell me a $39 mouthwash to "help" that I "can't get anywhere else". (edit 2 I sort of said it before but they basically said I was on the verge of gum disease but yet I have had no gum/mouth pain and my breath doesn't stink super bad which I think imo would be the clearest indicators to myself that something is up). We also told them our insurance doesn't cover more than 2 visits a year and then they were trying very hard to insist to my father that he make 3-4 appointments still this year for one of my younger brothers with braces.

Advice on Staying Close With God/Faith as I Play the Waiting Game?

Okay so I 18F met this wonderful guy while we were in high school, getting to know him best during senior year english class. After a couple of months of getting to know him, I was kind of stuck about whether or not to tell him that I like him and so I turned to God and asked him and afterwards felt very pulled to tell him, which I did. At the time, he said that it was not a good time for a relationship for him and that we should remain friends, so we did.

That became quite a rough time for me at first as I was having to figure out what I was feeling and how to figure out managing my feelings versus our friendship, but once I did figure that out, our friendship grew a lot stronger over the rest of the semester and then into this summer now.

Several times across the semester, I returned to praying just to ask about "if he is the one for me, please continue to lead me toward him" and then there would be things like I remember after the first time I did that, it was maybe 5 minutes after and he sent me a message saying my hair had looked really nice that day, to which at least that first time I blamed on coincidence but then of course it began to sort of happen each time I prayed about him like that and just spent time talking to God about how I felt about him which is something I haven't ever done with a guy I have liked before. I haven't liked a guy as much as I like this guy I think.

Fast forward to now, I was scrolling on TikTok a week ago and came across the St. Anne novena and decided it would be a worthwhile novena to pray, setting my intention with each prayer to lead me toward the husband God has planned for me though he of course knows how much I like this guy so if it is him please continue leading me toward him, along then with praying for the intentions of everyone else praying the novena. On day 4 of the novena I believe, we were going to be hanging out later that day so I prayed the novena, this time my intention being lead me toward the husband God has planned for me... I like this guy... if he is the one, please give me a clear sign... pray for other intentions. That same day on the car ride home he told me he likes me and has wanted to tell me for months.

Here's where the "waiting" comes in I guess. We didn't end up defining our relationship right then and there and didn't even say that we would talk about it another time, just said basically that we like each other. We are both incredibly anxious and I know he was so worried about telling me this and so now we are kind of going back and forth not really talking to each other? Which sounds SO STUPID I know and like you all are probably reading this going "ah what it was like to be a teenager." I leave for college in 2 weeks and he's staying to do his schooling in our hometown and I would really kind of like to have a label on things before I leave and was hoping to get to do that this week so that we would have a short period of time to have a relationship y'know but then now he is busy this week so it looks like that won't be happening but this is something that I guess is causing me a lot of anxiety despite all my praying.

So I guess this is me coming on here (if the mods let my post get put up) to ask stupidly for your advice about how to not let my faith and praying waver in this moment especially with the novena having ended and things like that because obviously I have waited and prayed so long and it seemed like it was all finally over but then now it's still going to continue and I still feel that feeling of I think this is what God has planned for me so even as my mom calls me crazy for waiting on this guy for months while he has figured himself out and has driven me crazy, I think this is something.

Making a TikTok of My Last Work Day?

Okay so for the past 2.5 months I have worked in hardware sales at my store and have absolutely loved it so much and honestly would encourage anyone else who is looking for a fairly low-key job to apply for it and so as today is my last day, I was going to essentially make one of those "come with me as I work my last shift at Menards" just kind of showing what a typical shift looks like (I know that today I have to do the section checklist and then most likely freight the rest of the night afterwards). I would not include other customers in my clips, wouldn't be talking in the short clips I would record as I would be doing a voice-over later, and would not mention which store I work at.

The only piece I am worried about essentially is that I can't find anything about it really in the handbook and my managers aren't on tonight to ask about if I can do it and so as I am hoping to come back next summer when I am done with school, I wouldn't want something that would keep me from being able to do so. So, I will probably do the recordings but then obviously check back here to see some of the replies before I would end up posting as I know there are GMs and former GMs on here that may have some good advice.

Thank you so much in advance, sorry if this is a stupid post.

Differences from High School to College Marching Band?

Okay so I guess this is me just posting this maybe out of some anxiety and then maybe some curiosity as well but in just a few weeks I start college marching band as a freshman and am really very excited about it however am wondering maybe what differences there maybe are from hwo it maybe functions compared to high school marching band.

For reference my HS was a competition band with ~200 members including guard with one roughly 8min show each season that we did not ever take to BOA because our show style according to my director is much more "college" style than BOA (no props, not tons of dancing, prioritizing the music and shapes and stuff more I guess is the best way I can describe that).

I already know that my university will have a lot of different shows throughout the season so that already is a difference but I'm not sure if there's maybe a difference in tips for band camp or anything like that that maybe anybody on here has!

Temporary Feeding Alternatives?

Okay so basically so much timing has ended up going wrong that my ghost mantis just molted around 3 days ago now so now its about time to feed him especially when he didn't eat around 2ish days before so its been roughly 5 days without food but now the fruit fly culture I had going for a long time finally just died out right when its seeming that my mantis is hungry (flat abdomen). My family and I have an incredibly busy schedule for a lot of this week and the pet store nearest us that sells them has limited hours and so I don't know if I will be able to get fruit flies until like Saturday or Sunday and I feel awful. Is there anything I can feed my mantis in the meantime or anything I can do or is it just get to the pet store asap?

Best Tips to Get Short Layered Hair into Marching Hat?

Okay so throughout the three years that I did marching band in high school, I had very long hair that I could easily do a sock bun with and then would easily go under my hat, no problem. It just was never very easy to manage for the hot band camps and rehearsals.

This past winter, I ended up doing a big change and cutting my hair pretty short to a chin length layered bob with sort of curtain bangs that was super cute and just flowed so well and I feel like was just the perfect hairstyle for me. By now, it has grown out to about my shoulders and I have been considering wanting to get it cut back to that short layered bob again. However, I worry as I am joining my college's marching band as I am required to by being a music ed major and then I worry about the layers being so short that I wouldn't be able to get my hair up and under my hat as at the time I first cut it, I couldn't even pull it back into a ponytail.

So, I wanted to come on here and ask for any girls (or guys or anyone yk) who has a similar hairstyle or went through a similar issue and I wanted to see how you manage(d) it to see if it would be something I could manage to work with or if I should just wait it out again until winter to get it cut that short.

Thank you in advance for the advice!

Appropriate to Give Manager Gift?

Okay so for reference, I am 18F and work at a store that is much like Home Depot or Lowes (I don't want to mention the exact store directly just in case cause you never know) and for the past month and a half or so have been working as a part time sales person in the hardware department of this store. In this department I have one main manager and then two (now one as one transferred to another department) assistant managers.

By the end of the month, I will be having to leave my job as I will be moving to college however my managers have made it clear that they would love to have me back next summer or for extra help on other school breaks if I could. These managers have been absolutely delightful and so incredibly helpful unlike the other job I have had.

My main manager has been in and out of the store a lot recently as his wife is having a baby soon, which is where wanting to give a gift comes in. I am quite a crafty person and giving/receiving gifts is definitely my "love language" and so I thought that it would be a cute and fun idea to crochet a baby blanket for his baby that I could give to him on my last day (if he were present and if not I would leave it with a note). I just am also a slightly (very) anxious person and so I have told myself first that if I were to do this, I should make my other two managers something as well, however I also worry slightly that this baby blanket idea could be seen in the wrong light even though that is nowhere near any of my intention with it. So, I assume there are people on here who maybe are in higher up positions at their jobs or would just have good reasonable judgement on something like this that maybe could help give an idea about what to do because again, I wouldn't want to create a weird situation, I simply really like making and giving gifts to show my gratitude for people and my managers have had a really good impact on me for this short period of time I have gotten to work for them.

Apparently this guy would move mountains for me… Do guys just talk to friends like this?

So for some context, I randomly became friends with this guy last November because nobody else would talk to us in this English class we had together. Since then, we have become absolutely amazing friends and I really have strong feelings for him, which I had originally confessed to him back in February to which he said that it wasn’t a good time for a relationship yet didn’t specify whether or not he felt the same way as we just sort of continued on as normal.

Our friendship has just continued to grow stronger over these past few months and every day it feels more and more like he could possibly like me, especially after a few nights ago. We both work at the same place as he had encouraged me to apply so we could sometimes work together, however this past week for many different reasons, I had been in the worst bad mood of my life and I decided to myself I didn’t want to drag him into it or make a big deal out of it as I am a people pleaser so I just basically ghosted him for a few days which made me sick to my stomach to do but anyone else with anxious thoughts can understand that like feeling of needing to pull away. Fast forward to Friday and it turns out we were on shift together and I am practically running away from him and avoiding him at all costs to which finally he snapped me asking if everything was okay and if he had done anything wrong to which I finally explained and we even got to talk at work a bit. later that night, we got off work and started snapping which is our main form of communication and then he had been apologizing saying he knew I said that he hadn’t done anything wrong but that he had felt over the past week or two that he has not been treating me well and so then that night at work was a wake up call for him to that and he continued apologizing profusely to which turned into just a very deep and meaningful conversation between us in which he informed me of how I could not even fathom how much he cares about me and that he would move mountains and cross oceans just to be able to talk to me and hang out with me, saying that I am one of his favorite people to talk to every day and with me ignoring him, he truly realized how much he misses that and like doesn’t ever want there to be a time where we aren’t friends anymore.

please tell me this is not just normal guy friend talking to his friend who is a girl because I am trying so hard to not get my hopes up as he has some issues with his mom not wanting him hanging out with girls let alone dating despite that he is 18 so I feel like that could really be holding him back from making a move. I leave for college soon and he is staying in hometown and I just know whenever we have our last hangout before I leave I’m gonna start crying and those feelings are going to be the strongest ever.

Tear-Jerking Emotional Solos

So I recently just went out to dinner for the first time with the guy I really like and have liked very much for quite a while and he has been very insistent upon me playing euphonium just for him sometime.

Now, I don't know your personal feelings about it but for me playing for just one single person like that is just so like soul-entwining and an incredibly vulnerable thing for me, especially with my playing anxiety and all that I have dealt with to get to where I am with my playing skill. So with all that, I really do think that I want to play my euphonium for him even if things didn't turn into a relationship with him because he is still probably one of the most incredible friends I've had and people I've met.

So what I come to you all for is ideas on just the most beautiful, tear-jerking, emotional solos that you all love. BEFORE YOU ALL START COMMENTING TO PICK WHAT I LOVE- I am not an avid euphonium music listener yet! I need to start but I have procrastinated that by a long shot, so I have tried looking up and listening to lots of different stuff so far i.e. Blue Lake Fantasy, Danny Boy, The Swan, Gabriel's Oboe- and yes they are all beautiful but this is me opening up my soul to this guy and so I really want it to be something special. My range is really fairly good for having only been playing 3 years, highest note is B-Flat way up above the staff (woah fancy music terms there) but I know I will probably be crying so uh maybe sticking to F's and G's up there as highest would be better.

It would be ultra great if the solo/song were unaccompanied because I do not plan to hire a pianist just to play for this guy but if it can fairly easily be played without an accompanist that is also awesome. Thank you all in advance!

New Praying Mantis Nymph Not Eating

Okay I am probably so annoying but I am genuinely just a worried new praying mantis owner trying to do things right lol. I just got my L2/L3 ghost mantis nymph King Boo earlier this week and he seems to have acclimated to his enclosure really well and especially loves hanging off of the flowers or the netting on the top of the enclosure. However, I have noticed that despite me shaking in some fruit flies a few different times, his abdomen is very flat so today, I decided to feed him just a teensy bit of honey which he enjoyed and then just to experiment, I put him in his original shipping cup thing with a fruit fly to see if he would take it and he refused to go anywhere near it. What do I do in this situation?

Ghost Mantis Feeding Advice

Hi! My ghost mantis literally just came in the mail like 10 minutes ago along with flightless fruit fly culture to feed it with and so I just wanted to see if any of you had any advice on how/when to feed it. I had to follow instructions and add some water to the fruit flies and they were legit jumping out everywhere which I was not prepared for lol, is there an easier way to get them out of this giant jar? How do I know when to feed my mantis (it is I believe in L2 or L3) ?

I am so new to this and would love any help I can get :)

Too much substrate etc stuff??

Okay so I am getting my first ever mantis and am so excited but also terrified of things going wrong. I will be getting a ghost mantis. I set up this cage a few months ago and wanted to make sure that I didn't put in too much stuff. Is there "too much" with a terrarium this big? I will be getting branches/fake flowers/etc to add to it but I simply don't want my nymph getting buried on accident. It is layered leca on the bottom, then sand, then a mixture of coco fiber and moss.
