Next step down from a wetsuit for open water swimming warmth

Newer swimmer, been doing some medium distance (750-2000 yard) open water swims in reservoirs in western Colorado with a couple other folks.
I have a sleeveless knee-length wetsuit that is fairly constrictive and tends to catch water in the 'bib' but does keep me warm. It is also a pain to get in and out of.
Curious if I would get similar or even slightly less level of warmth and a lot less hassle if I had a good swim vest and a hood? Or it seems like there are some hooded vests but maybe more for divers? when I look up swim vests I see a lot of PFDs

what to look for when buying a 4th gen from a private party

Car shopping for my elderly mother, liking the 4th gen rav4s. What should I look for, other then a history of regular oil changes, if buying private party? in the 80K-150K miles range.

2017 VW TSI- leaking oil drain on factory plastic pan

Dealership wants to charge a thousand dollars to put in a new plastic one, Said they also had to do the PVC valve and oil separator at the same time?
I am seeing aftermarket steel ones for less money, but Id have to go with an independent shop (I have done oil pan replacements in the driveway before, not fun).
Thoughts? 2017 golf sportswagen with 110K miles and a manual transmission

tension rod diamters for tamastage star bass lugs. 7/32? 6m?

I ordered some lugs for a skinny bass drum I am putting together, and I need to get some tension rods ordered as well.
They are single ended lugs are from a tama "stagestar", the seller said they are standard sized tension rods. Yet it seems like there are two standards that are widely used, 7/32 and 6m. Are those interchangeable? By my math it is less then .5mm difference, maybe it does not matter?

cloud storage app for bands

I am looking for a solution that lets me,

  1. have a shared folder with PDF, RTF, and TXT files across multiple users
  2. have an offline mode that works on pc / apple / ipad/android tablet devices
  3. have RTF files that have relative links to other docs in the drive that work equally well offline as on line
  4. allow for viewing and light editing of said documents in the app, like some markup on the PDFs or editing the RTF or TXT files. popping up Adobe acrobat is a deal killer
  5. reasonable lifetime purchase option.
  6. Allow for efficient (multi select) tagging of files

Probably less than 2 gigs total content, 15 different users.

Google drive will not allow for an entire folder to be made available offline. free dropbox does not allow for offline option. pcloud? Mega? anything else?

Apps for managing sheet music besides google drive and forScore

I have 5 or 6 projects with 15 different musicians (with a lot of overlap). Most of my collaborators at this time have either an android or ipad tablet.
For some groups I have actual charts as PDFs, for others I have charts that are lyric sheets with chords written over the top, mostly as google docs with a fixed-width font. Sometimes it is a jpeg of a paper chart.
Also for each group I have a google doc that has every set we have ever done in reverse chronological order, and the sets have links to the specific charts.
The Google drive approach is a little challenging, because I have to have separate folders for each projects, which means if there are songs that are shared (there are) then they get replicated. I tried every chart in one big folder but then it was really difficult to see all of the songs for a given project. Also with tablet version of google drive you have to manually specify what documents to make available offline, you can not just share a folder and have folks sync and be ready to go.
I did the forScore trial, as far as I can tell the only way to actually have collaborative set lists is to pay for the pro license which has an annual subscription which is a no go.

Is there any other collaboration solution people have successfully used? features would be:

  1. Allow for sharing of charts as text or PDF format
  2. Allow for sharing of set lists that would reference charts and provide for arrangement notes.
  3. Be free or have a modest one time fee
  4. Enable offline access without having to manually sync each file
  5. Have an option to print the set list and charts for the drummer that does not use a tablet.
  6. work IPAD or Android
  7. Allow for tagging or otherwise noting a subset of charts that are applicable for specific projects

Or maybe I can be using forScore basic better?

grounding issues with tapewounds?

I just put a set of roto sound tapewounds on my semi-hollow electric bass (eastwood classic 4, starfire ripoff). I am getting some buzz unless I am touching the strings, like the tailpiece is not grounded, but it is. I checked continuity with the output jack.
Is that a thing with tapewounds? Any suggestions?

best value vocal mic clip replacements?

Looking to get 10 or so mic clips to have an extra couple with me and replace some at the local arts center. Not really wanting to spend $9+ on the shures, whats the best value replacement out there? In my experience they disappear before they break but I do want something that will hold up to regular use. Every mic is SM57/58 sized

dealing with DPA microdot adapter

I build all of my own cables. Looking at a DPA 4099 and rather not cough up the extra $120 for and adapter that goes from "microdot" (whatever that is) to XLR. Curious if anyone could point me at a supplier for cable ends that would hook right up to the DPA? Or what do folks think about cutting off the end and put a regular TA3 connector on it? Is the adapter doing anything with the signal or the phantom power other then just lining pins up?

low-hassle stage mic for dancing sousaphone player

My polka band has a sousaphone, the gal that plays it tends to dance around quite a bit so some sort of mic on an overhead stand is not going to work.
I wrapped a 58 in a sock and suspended it in the bell, after some EQ it sounded ok, but it blocked a lot of the acoustic tone.
I am wondering what some other strategies would be? Id rather not go buy a specialty clip on for what is only a few gigs a year.

CQ18T - FBA on input channel?

New to the CQ world, so far pretty impressed. intuitive workflow, like how it starts simple but then you can go deep.
One of my most common applications is doing a bluegrass show with an LDC mic for vocals and then maybe a couple other mics on stage and a direct for the bass. in my analog days I would only ring out the LDC. But there does not seem to be a concept of automatic feedback suppression on single channels. dang.
Am I missing something? Im thinking I could maybe use one of the output channels dedicated for the LDC, and patch it into a different input? As long as I keep the original channel muted in the mains and the post-FBA channel muted on that output it is pulling in?

Recommendations for speaker replacement

I have an edan bass combo, 50watt single 10" speaker that is cooked. Ripped paper

How do I figure out the specs for a replacement? The current speaker measures 4ohms, does that mean I should find a 4ohm speaker? The speaker has this sticker (see pic) that means nothing to me or Google.

Thanks!

Allen & Heath CQ-20B real world questions

I do 10 gigs a month with 4 different projects, about 2/3 of those I need my own PA. I have yet to need more then 12 inputs, stereo mains with up to 2 separate monitor mixes, and I do not use sub groups. Im currently rolling in with a 12 channel analog board.
Im looking hard at the Allen & Heath CQ-20B, figuring I mix on my android tablet from stage. I like the small size, high sound quality, auto feedback features, and the lack of routing which seems to be its biggest detraction is not going to come up in my scenarios.

  1. If I wanted to save presets, do those get saved on the equipment? or on an SD or USB card? Or in the app?
  2. what exactly is mixing station? It seems like a 3rd party app that control this (and other) mixers? Do I have to load anything on the unit or just my tablet? where do presets save in mixing station?

proud new owner of a casita trailer, its a 2022 with the carpet on the walls. previous owner used to fry burgers inside, there is a bit of a rancid meet smell. How do I get that out? can I powerwash the inside carpet as long as we dry it out well? Anyone else have things they have tried before?
