Govee TV Backlight issue

Govee TV Backlight issue

I just got a new TV and replaced my previous Govee T1 backlight with the latest model — T3 Backlight Pro. I also just recently updated Homebridge to 24.04.4 LTS and the Govee plugin to 11.24.

Previously, the plugin would turn on the light and it would match whatever the Govee app was set for — which should be dynamic lighting that matches what’s on screen. But, and this is my first time running this backlight under Homebridge, the light is defaulting to the solid color set in HomeKit. Using the new “Dynamic Lighting” setting does nothing. Turning it off in HomeKit and turning it back on in the Govee app reverts it to the right setting.

Very niche setup I know. But if anyone else has the same experience I’d love to chat and see if you found a fix.

How hard would it be make the payment deadline a rolling time across time zones?

Caveat: this is 99% me venting over my own ignorance. I don’t usually take the payments down to the wire but I thought I had a few hours left… but I’m on PST. Only a few bucks of interest but it really grinds my gears.

It’s probably a stupid question but is there some technical/logistical reason why the deadline for payment has to be EST? It’s 2026, surely a bank could implement a rolling time zone so that payments are always due at 23:59 no matter where you are. When I buy something on sale from like Amazon it expires in my time zone. Would that be too difficult to implement?

Baking supplies

Just started on my sourdough journey (IYKYK). I found a few things I needed on Amazon but I’d rather buy the ingredients locally. Those of you who bake, where do you buy your specialty flours? I usually shop at Ralph’s but they don’t carry rice flour or rye flour. Whole Foods maybe? Local google shopping mostly says Walmart which is weird.

First loaf! Thought I had wrecked it but...it wasn't bad.

Howdy! First loaf came out of the oven today and It's...not bad. I made some mistakes along the way and thought I had killed it but I baked it anyway. It definitely wasn't perfect so I'd love to hear your thoughts on what would have improved it.

I followed Natasha's Kitchen, both for the starter and the bake.

My starter doubled after 14 days and it seemed to be active and ready, but I wasn't able to bake right away so I put it in the fridge for 4 days. I started second guessing myself that it wasn't ready or needed to be "revived" so I took 35g of it and fed it with 35g of flour and 35g of water and let that portion sit out overnight. It was bubbly the next day, floated in water and smelled okay BUT it didn't change in size. I decided to use it anyway -- was that a good move?

Ingredients

  • 400 g + 55 g bread flour (recipe called for 55 g of rye flour but I couldn't find any)
  • 10 g fine sea salt
  • 345 g filtered water, luke-warm
  • 100 g active sourdough starter
  • (Recipe called for rice flour to line the bowl but didn't have that either and used regular flour)

Steps+Mistakes

  • I mixed the starter with water first and then added the salt and flour; not sure I was able to mix it thoroughly with my hands.
  • I left it covered on the counter to bulk ferment for 4 hours. I noticed a hard skin forming and realized it was under an AC vent (house is set to 74F) so I put it in my oven halfway though.
  • I completely misread the instructions -- I thought I was supposed to stretch and fold every hour AFTER those 4 hours, not during! Ugh. By the time I realized it I had only done one stretch and fold. I decided to keep going.
  • I tried my best to shape the loaf and tighten it but I think it was fighting me since I hadn't stretched it a lot. I did get a small dome shape.
  • I ordered a banneton basket from Amazon but it didn't arrive in time so I used a colander. I floured (regular, not rice) a kitchen towel and placed it in there seam side up. I covered the rest with the towel and a shower cap.
  • Cold proofed in the fridge for about 16 hours. Dough came out fairly flat (though that's how the bottom of the colander was).
  • Pre-heated a dutch oven at 500, then dropped in the dough on parchment paper and baked at 450 for 20 mins, then uncovered for 23 mins until the top looked about right.
  • Cooled for close to 2 hours then ate some with dinner.

Verdict

  • Taste was good but to my palate was lacking a bit more "sour"
  • Soft, light texture. Definitely didn't over cook it.
  • A bit chewy. Not too bad though.
  • Top crust was pretty thin. Bottom crust was thicker and more crusty. Ironically, the bottom crust tasted the most like classic sourdough than the rest of the bread.
  • Tough to cut. Got through the top with slight difficulty due to the springiness, then hard to finish cutting all the way through the bottom due to the toughness.
  • My wife -- who loves sourdough and doesn't cook -- thought it was "delicious!" so as far as this household goes I'm now a bonafide baker :)

I do want to keep learning and improve my technique, appreciate any and all comments. Hopefully I've given you enough info to play Sourdough Detective and help me regroup on loaf #2!

Are eBay links cool?

Not a sell post. I'm gearing up to start selling my collection -- all vintage 82' - 85' figures and vehicles. I have a good eBay rating and have been selling off my childhood toys there for a while now, and I prefer the buyer/seller protections plus shipping discounts it offers vs. selling direct on here. Just want to check in with y'all to make sure it's okay to post links as I list items.

Mortise lock and Aqara smart lock: do I need to replace the mechanism? There’s no protruding cylinder

Looking for options here. I was excited to try installing an Aqara smart lock myself on this door but there’s an issue. You’re supposed remove the knob and then install the smart lock so that it grips the cylinder. The problem is that the knob (which feels loose and kind of cheap) is attached to a cylinder and comes out as one piece, so there’s just a hole. I can see the metal piece inside (the tail piece?) that the knob turns. I don’t think the included cylinder adapters are what’s needed; I think I need an additional piece that goes into the hole and slots onto the metal tab inside. Or is that wishful thinking and I need a whole new mechanism?

(And fyi I called this a mortise but I think it may technically be a lift lever lock; you turn the handle up to engage the deadbolt and the knob just locks it in place)

How much do you tip car wash workers?

Just curious to see what y’all give the guys who wipe down the car, do Armor All, tires etc. (Not for a wax job, that’s more work).

Any fun industry tapings/events next week? Looking for things to do with out of towners.

We have family coming to town next week and would love to show them “Hollywood.” But there’s not much taping next week: 1ota only shows Kimmel (and not everyone is 18+) and the other sites I checked don’t show much else of interest. We might do the Warner Bros. Tour and the obligatory Chinese Theater/Walk of Fame. Not gonna hike to the sign or do a star tour. What else am I missing?

Photo of Nichelle Nichols in movie uniform with command white collar?

Photo from TMZ article (listed as being from the Everett Collection)

Saw this just now in the story of her family's wrongful death lawsuit settlement on TMZ. the photo is of Uhura with a white turtleneck and shoulder strap in the monster maroon uniform. I don't remember her ever wearing anything other than powder blue division colors. Has anyone else seen this photo before? Could it have been a publicity still or maybe a wardrobe test?

How do the split track upgrades work?

Sample image: this missile upgrade has an “Artillery” track and a “Flex” track past level 4. Do we need to pick one or the other? Can we unlock both but select different ones each match? Or do they stack?

Out of town and Movies Library suddenly shows as Empty. What are my options?

As the title states, I'm away from my server and my MOVIES section has suddenly come up as empty (TV and other Libraries are okay). I was able to check the file directory and the files are still there.

Browsing similar issues on here tells me that I may have to restore my database files, which I would prefer to do in person when I'm back home. Is that the best option or is there anything else I can do remotely, like delete and re-add the Library? I don't want to do anything that will screw up the recovery or trash all of the metadata.

Not getting write access on local SMB share

I have a folder on my PC that I shared on my LAN, protected by a username and password (non admin account in Windows). My Mac Studio M1 Ultra can see the PC in the Network browser and connect just fine using the credentials and can read and write to the folder.

My M4 MBP however does not always see the PC in the Network browser. And when I do connect it with the credentials it is read access only.

Why would one Mac be able to r/w while the other cannot write?

(Orbi router, Netgear switch, all devices on 1GB Ethernet).

Does anyone attend CSULA or commute there regularly? I have to be on campus this week early in be morning and I don’t want to be late; wondering if either the 5 or the 134/2 has less traffic in the AM. Or are they both a shitshow?
