[30F] UAE-based techie & single mom — Why I’m drawn to marrying an Indian Army officer (or finding a genuine connection in that world)

I’m 30F, a divorced single mother working in tech in the UAE.

As a kid, my dream was to join the Indian Armed Forces. Life had other plans—I ended up in an arranged marriage that failed, moved abroad, and built my career. But my respect for that world never left me.

Now, as I look toward a second chapter, I realize I want a partner in the Indian Army.

Why? It’s about values—discipline, mental strength, integrity, and serving a purpose higher than oneself.

My situation: I am fully self-sufficient and not looking for money or casual fun. I want a grounded partner who values commitment, or even genuine friendship with someone from this background.

Has anyone in a similar situation (divorced, single parent, or NRI) navigated marriage with defense personnel? How do you manage the logistics between an overseas career and military life?

Would appreciate honest advice and perspectives!

Did 30F 7 YOE in UAE Growth Manager/Paid Ads Reality check from Indians in Ireland EU on taking the Master's route for stability

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for honest, unfiltered feedback from fellow Indians who went through the study abroad route or are currently working in Ireland/Europe. my_Qualifications bachelor in computer engineering

My Background:

Profile: 30F, 2017 graduate.

Work Experience: 7 years in the UAE working as a Growth Manager, focusing heavily on Performance Marketing, Paid Ads, and Growth strategy.

Current Situation: I’m looking for long-term career stability, a clear pathway to permanent residency, and a better lifestyle. I’m ruling out the US due to job volatility and H1B lotteries.

My Plan:

I’m considering applying for a 1-year Master’s in Ireland (e.g., Digital Marketing, Business Analytics, or Marketing Strategy) to get the 2-year Stamp 1G stay-back work permit.

What I keep hearing (and need a reality check on):

The Job Market & Visas: Many people are saying the Irish market for non-dev/non-software roles is brutal right now. Since growth/digital marketing isn't on the Critical Skills list, how hard is it for non-EU grads on a Stamp 1G to land sponsored roles before the 2 years run out?

GCC to Europe Transition: For those who moved from the Gulf to Ireland—was giving up a tax-free UAE salary and taking on student debt (€30k+ for fees + living) worth it, or did the housing crisis and high taxes make it feel like a step backward financially?

Alternative Options: If Ireland is a high risk for marketing/growth roles right now, are there other countries (like Canada, Germany, or the Netherlands) where a 30yo with 7 YOE in performance marketing stands a better chance of landing direct PR or a stable job?

I’d love to hear from anyone who has made a similar jump at around age 30. Please be as blunt as possible—I want to know the ground reality before investing my savings!

Thanks in advance!

Any twin here so we can wish each other

Today is my 30th birthday.

I've received messages from a few friends, and my mom and dad called to bless me. I'm genuinely grateful for that.

But birthdays have a strange way of bringing out the little girl inside me.

I realized I'm not craving gifts, parties, or grand gestures. Deep down, I think I was just hoping for someone to wish me directly—someone whose words would make me feel remembered. Not because I'm entitled to it, but because sometimes one simple "Happy Birthday" from the right person means more than anything else.

It's a weird feeling because I keep telling myself I'm not expecting anything... yet a part of me quietly waits. Maybe we all have that one part of us that just wants to matter to someone.

I'm thankful for everyone who reached out today. At the same time, I'm trying to make peace with the fact that not every expectation, even the smallest ones, gets fulfilled.

Does anyone else feel this way on birthdays, or is it just me?

Need advice: Mutual divorce hearing via Indian Consulate (UAE)

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for advice from anyone who has gone through a similar situation.

My spouse and I have filed a mutual consent divorce in India. After filing, I returned to the UAE for work. The family court has now directed me to attend the next hearing through \*\*video conferencing from the Indian Consulate\*\* in the UAE.

My lawyer has asked me to check if anyone has done this before and how the process works.

I have a few questions:

\* Do I need to book an appointment with the Indian Consulate? \* Which department handles court video conferencing? \* What documents are required? \* Is there any fee involved? \* How far in advance should I contact the Consulate? \* Did the court send the video conferencing request directly to the Consulate, or did you have to coordinate it yourself?

If anyone has personal experience with this process (especially from the UAE), I'd really appreciate your guidance. Thanks in advance!

Just needed a place to vent.

Lately, life feels heavier than usual. I'm finding myself getting angry over small things, overthinking situations that haven't even happened yet, and carrying a constant sense of uncertainty about the future.

From the outside everything might seem normal, but inside it feels like I'm fighting battles nobody can see. Some days I'm motivated and hopeful, and the next day I'm questioning everything.

I don't even have a specific problem to point at. It's more like a buildup of stress, expectations, responsibilities, and unanswered questions. The not knowing is exhausting.

I'm not looking for sympathy. I just wanted to get this out somewhere because keeping it all inside is becoming harder. If anyone else is going through something similar, you're definitely not alone.

Hopefully brighter days are ahead for all of us.

29F, divorced for 5 years, looking for some honest advice.

My marriage ended within 3 months. I became pregnant during that time, and shortly after, the relationship broke down due to serious issues. Since then, I've been raising my son and rebuilding my life as a single mother.

Professionally, things have gone well for me. I work as a software developer in a good company, earn well, and have built a stable life for myself and my child. However, my personal life feels stuck.

Over the last couple of years, marriage proposals have come and gone. In many cases, the other side was interested, but my parents rejected the proposals for different reasons. This has happened repeatedly, and I feel like I'm watching opportunities pass by without having much control over the process.

I'm now 29 and genuinely want to have a partner, companionship, and the chance to build a family life. I understand that being divorced with a child may not be everyone's preference, and that's okay. I just hope to find someone who accepts my past and sees me for who I am today.

For those who remarried after divorce, especially with children, how did you handle family expectations and involvement? Did you take charge of the search yourself, and if so, how did you approach it respectfully while still considering your family's views?

I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have been in similar situations.

Yesterday I matched with a guy on Muzz and I honestly want to warn other women to be careful.

Yesterday I matched with a guy on Muzz and I honestly want to warn other women to be careful.

Profile details:

Name on profile: “Dr AR”

Age: 33

Claims:

- Born in the UK and raised in the UAE

- Mallu

- Studied MBBS in Manipal University Bangalore

- Said he works in medical import business now

- Mentioned his sister lives in the UK

We had only texted briefly yesterday. He even called for 2 minutes just to “check if I was real and not a bot” and disconnected.

This morning he asked which area I stay in. I said Al Qasimia and gave only a nearby location, not exact details. Around 1:30 PM he suddenly called me through Muzz and said he was downstairs near my building. I was shocked because I never invited him and we had not even exchanged phone numbers.

When we met downstairs, the first thing he asked was whether he could use my washroom. I said no men enter my apartment except family and suggested using the security washroom downstairs instead. He kept insisting.

Then the conversation became extremely uncomfortable. He started making personal comments about my appearance and asked inappropriate questions about my private life, salary, and other things I clearly said I was uncomfortable answering.

His behaviour became aggressive and disrespectful after that. I told him to leave and reminded him we were outside in public. He left immediately and blocked me on Muzz before I even reached back upstairs.

I’m posting this because the entire situation felt unsafe and manipulative. Please be careful about sharing your location with strangers from apps, even casually.

If anyone else has experienced similar behaviour from this profile/person, please stay alert.
