Guess what operation I had 😬

Randomly started getting notifications about BTC movement, I get like 3 a day. Really annoying.

I don't have BTC in my watch list or anything, I don't even own any BTC. Please stop sofi

I have a cute little tree in this pot, and I went to water it today and found millions of these little brown balls. At first I thought insect eggs, but when I poked them with a stick they turn into this brown liquid very easily, like breaking the surface tension of water.. the liquid doesn't smell the best either..

Edit Because there seems to be some confusion. I am not having issues downloading from steam servers. These numbers are from online speed tests and Xfinity's own app. This is not a rant about Steam downloads being slow

Now hear me out..

It started Monday..

I pay for a 600 mbps plan. Generally I get that speed, or more sometimes. It's great. Recently, I started noticing packet loss in games, and slow speeds. Yeah sometimes that happens. Nothing to fret about. But this my friends, this is targeted.

I have attached photos. Before and after opening steam. You can see my download absolutely tanks(From 686mbps to 3). Upload drops by about half.

"Well, u/disapparate276 clearly you're downloading something in the background", you might say. Wrong, steam is doing nothing in the background. I checked! I even logged my network traffic with tools like nethogs. There is nothing slamming my bandwidth (I can download large files no problem, no slow downs.)

Well lets dig further. What if I close steam? Well, upload goes back to full speed, and download 10xs! Great. As im writing this, the longer steam is closed, the faster my internet is getting.

Maybe it's a hardware issue? Bad NIC? Well yes maybe, lets try it on wifi instead of Ethernet. Same. Result.

Well maybe your PC sucks. Maybe! Let's try it on another device. So, I grab my laptop (without steam downloaded), and run a speed test.

BOOM. Full speed. (As expected)

Well let's download Steam, login. (Do not download any games. Nothing. Sitting on the home screen, its a fresh install).

Speeds crawl to a snail's pace. Close steam, voila. faster (not great) speeds.

Well, maybe it's because you're in bridge mode and your router is blocking something?

Way ahead of you. I already disabled bridge mode, ran straight of my XB8 modem. Same exact problem.

Lets run some troubleshooting steps more, i guess?

• Restart modem

  • YEAh duh

• Restart router

  • of course

• disable bridge

  • For sure

• Swap cables?

  • Absolutely

• Speed test from xfinity app, in troubleshooting?

  • slow as heck.

The real nail in the coffin? LETS TURN THE VPN ON THEN OPEN STEAM, lets hide what we're doing.. WOW EVEN FASTER THAN FULL SPEED (641 mbps, last photo)

Xfinity App, and support both show no outages. Support has been no help, has done the classic "turn it off and on again" boy howdy what do you think I've been doing?

I've got a tech coming tomorrow. But man, anyone want to help me troubleshoot?
